I Should Have PDLS+ but....

I bought a 2020 Macan GTS last year, and purchased the Premium Package Plus (PF4) with it, which should have had PDLS+ included.

However, Auto High Beams are no where to be found in my PCM menu.

All the other PDLS type things seem to work as I would expect.

Did they forget to include some sort of hardware? Was it misadvertised? Is it a software setting they forgot to configure?

Post up your VIN so we can dissect your situation. You can also do this yourself on Porsche Build Sheets and Window Stickers by VIN | VIN Analytics

Well it mentions the PF4 package I thought it was in, but doesn't break it out in any additional detail anywhere else. I definitely have the PDLS/PDLS+ style headlights though. The dealer seems clueless, and I get the sense they just don't want to deal with figuring it out since I took delivery of it about 9 months ago (I only recently realized the feature was missing)

I think Auto hi beams are the default when you turn on high beams, at least in my 911.
If you already took delivery, check your manual.

Unlikely that something is physically missing - a malfunction is possible. Have you looked at the "Porsche Good to Know App". Lots of good information there about high beam assistant.

I just leave my headlights on auto and it works I thought the manual said that is all you needed to do but I will say it rarely works at least for me (it is speed dependent). I find myself turning the high beams on manually when I shouldn't have to.

Edit: I do see it in the MFD Vehicle>Settings>Light&Visibilty>Exterior Lights>High Beam Assist.

In my Macan, there's no PCM setting for the PDLS+ feature...

This has been discussed before.

It's on the light stalk I believe... If the headlight switch is in Auto, and it's dark enough so that the headlights come on, AND the
car has PDLS+, gently pushing the headlight stalk forward will engage the Auto high beam of the PDLS+ feature.

If you SEARCH the forum, you'll find a post of the instrument display illustrating this.

BTW, for a 2015 Macan Turbo, PDLS+ is a separate option from PDLS and Premium Package Plus. It is not included in the Premium Package Plus option.

Check any/all of the following threads (NOTE: that a simple search provided me with these results...)

This is how my 2019 Base with Premium Plus works.

I never thought to look in PCM settings.

When the headlights come on automatically, you push the headlight stalk forward and a highlighted "P" displays.

Has anyone performed this operation ? You can upgrade standard PDLS to the plus with softare as the hardware is all there. Also they may be the possibility to change the US PDLS+ to the Euro spec where the main beam is actively shaped rather than just on/off.

In the US pdls+ means the high beam automatically switches on/off to avoid blinding other drivers.

Everywhere else it’s a dynamic main beam and the high beam changes shape to avoid blinding other drivers but never completely switches off.

It may be possible to activate this system on US cars !

I read somewhere that cars are not getting Led Matrix headlights anymore due to the chip shortage. Are the the LED lights that come on the Macan S with PDLS+ the headlights they are talking about? I just purchased a car that is slated to arrive the first in in November, the dealer said the build is already locked and it being built next week. The spec sheet says led headlights on it under premium package plus. Am I getting the LED Headlights thats in premium Passage plus that I am paying for or something else?

thanks,

Dave

Ok good I am getting headlights then, apparently from an article I just read nobody is getting matrix led lighting due to the chip shortage. I was talking to a Porsche North America rep and she told me they can’t be retrofitted if they are not in the car at delivery either. Yikes 😬

The Macan GTS at least comes standard with LED Headlights in Black incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS). The only upgrade available is PDLS+ (Plus). The Macan has never been available with the "matrix" LEDs the more expensive models can be optioned with.

The difference between PDLS and PDLS+ is:

"PDLS increases safety when driving and enhances near-field, lateral, and far-field illumination by adjusting the range of the dipped beam according to driving speed. Additionally, the dynamic cornering light function rotates the main headlights towards the inside of a road’s curve based on the driver’s speed and steering angle. Static cornering lights turn on the auxiliary headlights for clearer visibility on tight, turning roads.

PDLS+ has two added functions. First, at speeds higher than about 40 mph, the dynamic main beam will turn on and detect oncoming traffic and vehicles in front of you. The light cone’s intensity and range are adjusted depending on the surroundings. Secondly, Intersection Assistant turns on the electronic cornering lights to adjust the broadness and length of the light cones, which increases the visibility of the vehicle’s surroundings."

Oddly - yes / no..
When I locked my 2022 S earlier this year it said the same thing, and I kept my "order" , and I did verbally confirm with my sa that I was getting that, then as time went on, I get the actual order from the dealership and it dissapears..
I think it is a quirk of the configurator.. mine I do not believe has it..

There is a very big difference between “Matrix Design” and actual headlights that use a matrix of LEDs. The 2023/2023 Macan US headlights are the same design as the 2021’s, based on the pictures and from what I’ve seen in person.

From a Canadian configured car about to be delivered: - see the note at the very bottom..

LED-Matrix Design Headlights in Black incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+)
Includes:
  • Elements in Black
Daytime running light trims in Matte Black; outer headlight ring in Dark Chrome; and Reflective ambient speedlines

  • Dynamic Cornering Light
Dynamic cornering lights swivel the low beam in accordance with cornering characteristics, depending on the steering angle.

  • Speed-Dependent Headlight Range Control
Speed-dependent headlight range control increases light distribution after 1 km at 110 kmh or higher, or immediately after 130 kmh and above provided the steering wheel is not turned sharply.

  • Sport Mode
Activated in Sport mode - allows for greater swivel angle depending on steering input.

  • High Beam Assistant
When a camera located inside the rear-view mirror detects the headlights of an oncoming vehicle, the high beams are automatically turned off at a distance of approximately 800 meters. If the taillights of a vehicle traveling in front are detected, the high beam is then turned off at a distance of approximately 400 meters.

Note: Full LED-Matrix functionality (individual operation of 84 LEDs) is limited for the US market. Individual LEDs are programmed to operate as a single light source to perform the functions listed above.

Oddly, that's the exact same wording as the Cayenne Matrix lights description, right down to the 84 LEDs, yet I have not read anywhere that 2022 or 2023 Macans got upgraded headlights.

Note that the Porsche site for Germany doesn't mention matrix LED's for the Macan at all on their website/configurator.

Let us know what you end up with. You'll know when you turn them on. If they go through a vertical adjustment, and a horizontal wider/narrower adjustment, that's just the same lights as the 21 Macan. If they turn on to a minimal/pinpoint of light then both lights spread out (grow) to the left and right to wide/bar beams, you've got the Porsche Matrix LED's.

Also - on other Porsche's with Matrix LED's (Panamera and Cayenne), you no longer have a light switch that you can physically turn left and right. You only get buttons. I think the Taycan is the same, but the physical buttons are replaced with touch screen buttons.

I know this is an old thread, but I just so happen to have a copy of my 2020 Macan GTS build configuration which has this option.

For the MY2020 Macan GTS, "LED Headlights in Black incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+)" was a standalone option (8JU) for $420....NOT part of Premium Package Plus (PF4).

PDLS in the US is a joke. I rented a M3 in Italy during the summer and I was shocked in how good the headlights are there. They allow the full system to work and it was amazing to see it turning on and off and moving the angles illuminating everything but the face of other drivers. Europe is so ahead of the US in terms of that technology that is not even funny.
