Suck this happened you! May want you consider taking it to an Indy repair shop for a second opinion as dealer will likely quote a tranny replacement instead of repair quote.

Sorry to hear this. There are a few threads you can look into here and on Rennlist about transmission issues and possible sources. Hard to know though until it's diagnosed. From what I understand, the dealer can only do a costly full replacement although an independent shop may be able to replace individual parts for much cheaper.

Glad to hear you got a rental car in the meantime.

If you do get the dreaded $20k replacement quote, give Brian at Above and Beyond Performance a call. He is a certified Porsche technician and they are 5 minutes away from Porsche WPB. They were recommended to me by Jon from Flat 6 as a Porsche specialist shop.

I haven't been there yet but I've reached out on a few upcoming maintenance items and they would be my first call since they have many good reviews.

Other options a bit further may be USP Motorsports / Euro Car Care in Coral Springs, they are a well known Audi/VW/Porsche shop and since the transmission is an Audi unit, that may be a good choice. Also there is TuneRS Motorsports in Coral Springs. A bit of a tow from WPB but would be worth it if the dealer comes back with a costly quote.

Best of luck and keep us updated.

Below is a link to an earlier thread on this topic.

Several possibilities. Could be a bad sensor, or an issue with the transmission valve body (also known as the mechatronics unit).

The dealership will have to see what error codes they can find and go from there.

Best of luck getting it resolved, and let us know what you find out.

Warning "Gearbox fault - Possible no R-gear. Drive...
Thanks i'm anxiously awaiting the results of what be the issue, I really hope that i need to replace the entire transmission. That 20k bill will make me sick.

Hello my 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo has relayed me a message on my dash board, I has stated this “transm. fault poss. No R gear. Drive on poss. I was able to continue driving but the would abruptly shift 7-5-3-1 as I’d drive. Once I was able to get to a safe location my car was not able to drive…reverse didn’t work nor did drive. I had it towed to Porsche of west palm beach on a Sunday in which they’re service department was closed. The following Monday I got a Macan loaner 2020 base model. They won’t be to diagnose the my vehicle until Friday. To diagnose cost $295.00. Im very worried because i heard horror stories of the transmission also I heard that very costly. Although I heard that a pdk reset or software could help im extremely nervous. This is my first Porsche and I hope it isnt as bad as it seems. Plus I’m very new to Porsches. Do you guys have any idea what may have caused the issue also what the outcome can be?

It’s a 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo
106k miles
Always serviced
Very well kept and no aftermarket bolt on modifications.
Not within warranty
Will give an update on situation on what happens

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

The timing cover leak is not an easy fix. When the dealer did mine under warranty they pulled the whole motor out of the car. To be honest though this is a manufacturing issue and they should cover it even if you're out of warranty (when I researched it a few years ago I think it was something about over torqued bolts).

For the transmission search for my old posts. I found a Borg warner kit on ebay (I think it was dl501 repair kit) that should fix any electronic problems assuming your gears aren't messed up.

Thanks so much i'll do some research on that!

They had sent me the bill I declined all the repair recommendations (they removed the fault code so the car was able to drive normally) , went to independent Porsche specialist shop and they said to replace my engine mounts since my engine mounts were broken, and fixing the mounts tremendously reduce engine rattle which will reduce the transmission/engine misalignment which is what caused the fault to appear in the first place. Once the engine mounts were replaced they said to replace the mechatronic system just to be safe even though it may no need to be changed. The engine mounts seemed to be the main culprit in the situation since the mounts have been broken before the transmission fault incident. I didn't realize it was broken until i drove the loaner Macan and noticed that when i start the car an incredible rattle would come on. I spent at most $300-$400 USD on the mounts and $300 USD for the labor to install. Now my car is running fine and I'm thinking about replacing the mechatronic system but it isn't giving me any problems so far.

(FOR ANYONE WHOS IN MY SITUATION JUST KNOW PORSCHE WILL SAY AND DO ANYTHING FOR YOU TO BUY ANOTHER NEW PORSCHE BECUASE THEY WERE BS MY CAR INSPECTION!)

Wow, what a story, how fortunate for you and very good to know, thanks for sharing that.

Which shop did you go to?

Im going to grab those bolts to just to be secure!
Here is a long thread on the 2-bolt TCC process and some things to watch out for, hoping for continued good news on your PDK

The same thing happened to me. 2022 Macan GTS. Still under warranty. I went to the Porsche dealer and after a long wait (2-3 weeks for diagnostic and another 2-3 weeks to actually fix the problem) the problem is now gone. There was another issue that was also fixed. I have noticed that sometimes the car vibrates a bit and the sound is a bit different when idle. Not always, and not super noticeable, but I did notice it. That sound/vibration/tremble thing happened just before the 1st service, and I did tell the guys at the service, but they dismissed it as normal. I insisted it was not normal, and asked them to write it down in the report. Later I made a recording of that sound and sent it to them, but there was no response. A few months later, those errors started appearing, and now all of those problems appear to be fixed (R gear, engine fault, vibration, and sound).

That is so weird what helped me fix my problem was engine mounts and transmission mounts which aligned everything and stoped that error completley
