Check the Y Pipe all the down there with a flash light. I saw a big crack in the hose down there and that is quite possibly the usual issue with the coolant leak. If you are under warranty take it back to the dealership and show them pics of the cracked hoses. I feel that they dont usually do a thorough job inspecting like they should. There should be a work around that Y Pipe that other forum members have written up and there is also a Youtube video made by a popular DIYer on this forum also.
It appears that you've figured out the Y-pipe issue and that it's completely unrelated to the transmission problem.
@VAGfan lays out a course of repair to try on your transmission in post #482 above. I just bought my 13th Macan (a 2018 GTS) in the past 14 months (I have a dealer's license for my law firm and like to swap cars a lot), and it started exhibiting the same transmission symptoms you describe in post #489 (minus the coolant leak issue). So, I am going to attempt @VAGfan 's recommended fix. I will report back on how it went, and if the problem is resolved, will do a DIY thread on that repair.

Since you found the thread on the Y-pipe coolant leak, I assume that was resolved with minimal issues. Did you get your issue transmission issue resolved? If yes, can you post an update?

What I have found with the first gen Macan is that there are 4 recurring maintenance problems:
-The aforementioned Y-pipe coolant leak under the intake manifold. What was a $2,000 repair has now been reduced to about a $400 repair by a shop or a $100 DIY and is a permanent fix (rather than using a thin plastic pipe that will probably break again in 6 or 7 years). It's cheap & easy enough that frankly, people should do it proactively since it will strand you. Of the 13 Macans I have had, 2 experienced this problem during my brief ownership.
-The Transfer Case. What was a $5,000+ repair has now been reduced to about a $1,350 repair. You must understand that Macan transfer cases don't break - the friction plates inside (think "clutch plates) begin to wear out, causing a slipping feeling. You can buy reman transfer cases on eBay for $800, and they come with a 2-year warranty (same as the Porsche remans). Those are Porsche trasfer cases, just not rebuilt by Porsche. Transfer case fluid and a drive shaft clamp are about $50. I pay my indie mechanic $500 for labor. Total out the door is $1,350. Of the 13 Macans I've had, 4 have needed transfer case replacement. This one could easily be a DIY, but getting the driveshaft off the transfer case output shaft is apparently tricky (so says my mechanic), so I just let him do the job for me. It can't be that bad, though, since he seems happy every time he gets to do that job.
-Timing Chain cover oil leaks. What was a $10,000+ repair has now been reduced to $20 in parts and 2 hours of labor with the "2-bolt fix." I have just done the labor myself - it's a little tricky, but not bad once you have done it once and have the small format tools you need to work in a tight space. I have heard people say "well, my mechanic says that 2-bolt fix might not solve the problem," to which I say "OK, give me the name of the person that you know who had the 2-bolt fix done and it didn't work." There's never an actual person - they've just heard it might not work. I have had to do this on 3 of the 13 Macans I've briefly owned.
-The Mechantronic valve body failure. Lucky #13 Macan for me is the first one I've had with this problem. I'm going to try the repair/rebuild that @VAGfan describes. As I said above, I'll report back with results.

Other than these issues, the Macan appears to be very reliable. With any out of warranty European vehicle, you need to adopt an "I am the warranty" attitude and be willing to research, do some basic wrenching yourself and have a good indie mechanic for the tougher stuff (or things you don't have time to do yourself). These forums go a long way toward making that achievable. Access to a lift is helpful, too.

I did the Y Pipe diy thanks to the members on this forum who have also posted the youtube to it. Now the engine is too hot light is on now and still the transmission does not go past 1st gear and cannot reverse. I am thinking it is a thermostat and water pump issue or radiator and also the mechatronic or solenoids issue. What a head case it has been so far with many mechanics in the tristat NYC not willing to take on the repair or outrageous quotes. I guess they are all busy since its a hot summer season with many cars down. Thank you all for all the kind responses and helpful advice and DIY.

I’m in your area and dealing with the same, have you done a code scan or any diagnostics on your car yet? I ordered a mechantronic rebuild kit and I have a guy that will pull the mech for me to rebuild on my own before he reinstalls it.

Yes I did do a code scan with my handy Autel obd2 dongle, Im not sure how it compares to a more professional scanner but all I got were these codes

1) P0700 - DME - Fault in transmission control unit
2) 00A016 - Instrument Cluster - Warning Check Engine
3) 89010E - Rear End Electronics - Alarm Siren Faulty
4) P174E00 - Transmission Control - Valve 3 in gear train half 2 - electrical fault

I also have a leak in the bottom not sure if its coolant or pdk fluid and now my engine over heat red check engine light came on too. I dropped it off at a local mechanic and is praying they know what they are doing. I only heard some ramblings of the clutch being defective and the rest I'm not sure of. If you have a guy and would like to recommend I'd be glad to utilize their service if this doesn't pan out. I already did the Y pipe DIY thanks to the members here and for Santirx's youtube videos. I am not sure how reliable these Porsches are after these repairs are made and is surprised by the quality of such a luxury car.

Another victim of this problem here. I've long considered AUDI as a piece of garbage brand and clearly they still cary that torch. How many people can claim a successful cure with circuit board replacement route?

I'll find out next weekend! I have the separator plate, clutch solenoids, both pressure regulation solenoids, and both circuit boards on the way from Maktrans in Poland.

I'm pretty sure it's either the gasket plate or the clutch solenoids so I'm hoping throwing this whole kit at it will solve the issue. $287 for the full kit with all shipping and taxes.

What's the exact behavior you're getting?

(Thanks for the lenses by the way, they have already arrived!)

Glad you got them!

Does this kit

include ALL the things you mentioned?

That’s just the entire valvebody… I guess that would really be the best fix as Maktrans completely rebuilds them. You would just need to swap the control unit. I got this kit: Mechatronics repair kit 0B5 DL501 08-up

This one addresses all the most common failure points.

What behavior are you seeing? Any rough shifting?

It started off by feeling a strange vibration after I come to a complete stop (about half a second after it shifts to gear 1). As in someone is trying to shift the gear box. Now this vibration is more pronounced and it spits the error regarding R gear. The shift from 2nd to 3rd also seems rougher than what I recall few years back when I got the car. It would sort of make sense that the 1st and 3rd gears are involves since they are on the same shaft.

I wouldn't hesitate to spend a few extra dollars to get the complete unit just so I don't need to get in there again. In fact I may have to pay for the work since my garage does not have a proper lift and I have a baby on the way few weeks from now.

I have a refurb unit from maktrans in the box here. I’d sell it for 500$ plus shipping.

Make sure you scan the car to determine what the codes actually are, TCU or transfer case can have similar behavior. How many miles are you at?

the error code says Transmission Control Unit fault, nearly 100% sure it is the transmission, transfer case is fine. 82K on the car, which for an Audi is about 80K past due for a catastrophic failure.

Sigh, another one bites the dust. I am not sure why there isnt a recall on this or maybe its just not that common. I personally drive like a snail and hardly ever drive the car hard and I believe I just had the Slide Valve Body swapped out 3 years ago under warranty and only put in like 2k miles between that time and now this. It is disappointing for such a reputable brand like Porsche although its VW parts but still it is hard to believe that cars these days just don't last like them cars back then. I had an old Acura TL that was suppose to have a transmission recall and it never crapped out on me. I hope you other folks with this problem is able to get it resolved without paying a fortune.

Audi does not recall anything because replacement part is worse than the original (broken) part.

I have less the 50k and car won't go pass 1st gear and no reverse. Coolant pipe also burst open and leaked everywhere. I did the diy thanks to the forum diy and YouTube vids. Took it to the local mechanic and on the way there I get the red engine over heating light. Pretty disappointed by the quality of the car and it seems a bit shady imo.
