Haha, no need to politicize or personalize a post or complaint in a car forum. It’s really a major reason underneath the current big problem in this country.

I own a 2015 Porsche Macan S. The car has always been maintained by my local Porsche dealer, has never been in an accident, and is in pristine condition. A month ago the engine light came on. Turns out there is a faulty transmission and the cost to repair it nearly exceeds the value of the car. My dealership has reached out to Porsche corporate, as have I, and it doesn't appear as if they will offer me any assistance due to the age of the vehicle. I was told that sometimes this "just happens." So basically they're telling me the shelf life of my Porsche is 5 years. This is my second Porsche and I thought I would always drive a Porsche. However, I would be a fool to purchase another one if they don't make this right. Does anyone know how I would sell this car? So disappointed right now. Any advice would be appreciated.
Are you sure that the problem is not with the Transfer Case. Porsche has extended coverage for Transfer Case problems.

OP already got rid of her Macan.

The reason was the vehicle was out of warranty. I would have expected some support for me to stay in the brand.
How many miles were you out of warranty already when this issue happened?

I was at 90k. Seems I am hostage to dealer fix. This is my first and last Porsche. There is a Transfer Gear warranty extension for you folks so take it in when any "minute" noise arises. Make sure you dont run into my issue.
You're not hostage to a dealer fix, but it will require some research to find a shop that can tackle the issues with this unit. The transfer case warranty you're talking about is a separate issue entirely from the transmission issue.

Yes, a complete transmission replacement out of warranty in most cars is going to cost a significant percentage of the total value of the car.

That’s why few people would be foolish enough to completely replace an out of warranty transmission when they can be rebuilt by an independent trans shop for a fraction of the cost. There have been several examples of forum members who did this with apparently good results.

I would point out you will find plenty of transmission shops out there not qualified to touch a PDK. But they are out there. Would expect that any indy Porsche specialist could point you in the right direction.

So I just had same error with my Macan S on 54k miles, I was waiting for U-turn and turned the wheel left and then added a bit more pressure on the wheel pulling it 100% to the left, felt a small kick and then error popped up. Restarted the car 1 minute later and drove it for an hour without any errors or issues. Mechatronic unit was replaced like 3 weeks ago. So what could it be?

Also, what would be the best way to approach this while I am on CPO? For instance, if error appears today and I take it to the dealer tomorrow and they don't find anything wrong and then next day I am out of warranty and get this issue, will it be considered pre-existing condition or not?

I read a theory that low battery voltage could cause the PDK to go off...i have connected the dots and it could be there was unusual power consumption by the steering when I pushed it to hard to the left. Hopefully that's the case, although I wouldn't mind a new PDK paid by Porsche :p

My son has a 2016 Porsche Macan with 64,000 miles and no warranty 😢. He starting having jerking issues and gear changing issues , it would no go into gear and he would turn car off and back on and it would jerk into gear and drive horrible jerking and stalling etc. we took it to Porsche dealership who said he needs a new transmission at 19,000 dollars. We then took it to a eurotek mechanic who said it “could” be the valve body but there is no way to test this. He said he would start there and see if that repairs the problem. That cost 4500.00. But if it doesn’t work we are out 4500.00 and still need a transmission. Porsche dealership said when they had the car it threw codes saying clutch 1 and 2. They recoded and reprogrammed the pdk and it did not fix it. Any advice? Anyone have a new valve body fix this problem? I am just a mom that knows NOTHING about a transmission so be easy on me please.

That is exactly what happened to my 17 GTS.

This message popped on the dash "Gearbox fault possible no R-gear Possible to drive on" and it would not shift past 2nd gear. Turning off the engine and turning it back on a few minutes later was a temporary workaround. Long story short, dealer replaced the valve body ($4700) but when they installed it, the tech said it my transmission was stuck in gear and would not shift so they had to replace my transmission. So new valve body + new transmission. I dont remember the exact cost altogether but it was definitely more than $12K.

I had that error pop up and valve body was changed under warranty, few weeks later same error popped up so now car is back at the shop. Although my car wasn't jerking so not sure if my error is just a software glitch of PDK Itself yet. I think you will want to make an educated decision and figure out which risks are you willing to take: valve body or PDK.
