So far the dealer has been upfront and has stood behind their mistake. The have repeatedly said that they will stand behind any problems. On the other hand, I want and need a reliable car, I don't want to wait till the engine or transmission fails and then breaks down on the side of the road. I also don't want to find out that the engine or transmission has problems with longevity and I have to sink money into repairs, and or it keeps going back into the shop. I need to become educated with potential future problems. Do I need a new engine and or transmission?

Do you have an attorney? If so I would have the attorney draft up a letter stating what had happened and that this dealer was going to guarantee the car into perpetuity pertaining to any problems from their mistake.

Hi Guys

This is my first post here and I need some help as i am from UK and this is my first attempt in dealing with customer services in North America?

To start with my 2015 Porsche Macan S broke down in downtown Toronto on 24 Jan 19 with 2 warning lights:

1. Gearbox Fault possible no R gear possible to drive on
2. Fault of the engine control system

With the first gearbox fault i was able to drive and pull over in safe location. The only gears that worked were 1 and 3. (To be honest i did not try and get through the gears to see if the higher ones worked because i was in traffic and did not want to worsen the problem)

The second fault of the engine control system came as i continued driving to the safe location. So presumably is linked to fault 1 - Gearbox.

Cut a long story short the Macan is at Oakville Porsche.

They have today quoted me $4000+tax to replace the "MECHATRONIC CONTROL UNIT".
The Macan S warranty expired on Sep 18 and my current mileage is 80,000km. Porsche have said my warranty is finished and i will need to pay. Has anyone had a similar issue with a car that is fairly new, just out of warranty? Is it normal for this part to go? On top of this i have had no loaner vehicle and am currently renting from a 3rd party to keep me moving. Porsche dealership do not seem to interested in assisting me unless i pay for it (opposite service to UK Porsche who go out their way/above to assist).

Porsche are also telling me that i stand no chance of getting any assistance from Porsche Canada as there is no history for the PDK gearbox service @4yrs 60,000miles (1 service missed from 6 services). My gripe with this is Porsche Oakville serviced my car in Feb 18 @ around 56,000 km. They never offered me a PDK gearbox service at the time nor did they quote or advise me of it (i know people will say i should read the manual and know all intervals etc but i am not a mechanic - that is why i take my car to the main dealer to service so they can tell me). Also no warning light or service light came on the dash for the PDK service which is something that would prompt me? So in my eyes the next service is due at minimum of 1year from previous service (which would be Feb 2019) or when you get your service light come on but porsche are telling me that i should no the intervals.....

Any help and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

the exact same thing happened to me - I bought a 1 owner 15’ S in Houston from a Hyundai/ Exotics dealer - not CPO & no ext warranty. Porsche dealer in San Antonio charged $7500 —- milage was 52k, had car for about a year. Not a fortified new ownership experience unfortunately.

Hi folks,

This just happened to me this morning...

There are now 2 faults displayed:

The first one "Possible R gear fault, driving permitted".
Then followed by a second one "Engine Control fault, consult a workshop. Driving permitted".

There were obvious symptoms before this happened but not sure if it is related:

1. When driving in heavy traffic and the gear selector on "D" and gears change from 1,2,3 cycle I'd hear an occassional thunk/clunking noise in the underbelly.
2. Same thunking/clunking noise occassionally when going on reverse but noise is more prominent and obvious on symptom #1
3. I've noticed in Sport mode, there are occasional times when it would hold a gear too long before it upshifts. Granted the RPM's are normally at 2K at a minimum in sport mode but sometimes holds the gear at 4-5k in Sport mode on non-spirited driving.

I dont want to speculate but is symptom #2 the dreaded transfer case issue I kept reading about in the forum?

Not sure how to move forward from this point and would appreciate some sincere advise from folks here who would take this kinda thing seriously.

I'm at 55K and was just out of warranty.

1. Probably the main cause/symptom.
2. TC problem shouldn’t trigger error messages.
3. Seems normal. My Macan S does that once a a while.

Same here. 2015 Macan S. On Friday, all three faults came on. Car was lurching and making all kinds of bad sounds apparent (via wife report). Car not in warranty and towed to dealer this morning. Mentally prepared for the worst. Will report back.

Its odd that in some of the googling search I found, others waited for "a few hours..." or so and the issue went away seemingly permanently. I'm still curious to find out what the error code might be for this issue and how this issue is normally resolved.

So after leaving the car parked and untouched for a day, I started it this morning and the error went away, just like what others said who had the same issue.

I started to drive to the dealer to have them diagnose this issue, after driving about 8 miles, the error messages came back. I parked and called a tow truck

After waiting for about 20 mins for the tow truck, I figured I’d start the car to see if the error is still there so I started the car and again the error went away....so (shrug).

Is this issue more software related than mechanical?

I just leased my first Porsche, the Macan 2020 last Saturday at Porsche dealer!! I’m super excited.
However, when I was taking my new car home. The engine lights were on
One is showing “Engine Control Fault”, another is showing “Possible R gear fault”. What I notice is when I press gas when green light is on, the car felt like it is stuck at first gear. (I’m not 100% sure though, but I had it on automatic) Definitely weird. Then I parked the car and was about to go back to the dealer, I couldn’t back up.
So my sales came with a loaner car so I can go home, and he took my car back to dealer service to check. (He said he got it back on)
The service doesn’t open on Sunday, so they have it went in service today (Monday). And it’s now night time still haven’t hear back from them.
Well, do you guys think this will be an issue? Or might be an issue in the future? I hope it won’t be a safety issue.
My friend thinks maybe I should change another one, but I really like the one I got and the deal I got is pretty good.
Sigh... I’m just a bit worried and disappointed now. Never had an issue especially it’s a new car.
Any suggestion would be appreciated, thank you

Porsche contacted me, this is the message “Ok so here's the update on your car. The problem is very unusual, but we have been working with the factory who is advising on its repair. We believe the problem stems from a faulty module inside the transmission, and have ordered the parts necessary for the repair.
We will need to install the new part then confirm the issue is resolved. Because the parts needed to be ordered, we anticipate a week to install the new module. “

Porsche’s message “I just got the full update from our service team. We installed the new part which we believed would solve the issue, but the problem is persisting. Porsche's factory service team has been involved on your case, and they're continuing their work to diagnose the issue.”

Oops. sorry to hear. This is unusual with Porsche. But, those errors are common. Many times they go off after some rest for the car. Just observe, if this repeats, just get a change.

They have had the car since Sat. Only just got it on a lift to inspect and no detail yet. Will report back. Plan on going down kicking and screaming if any major fault / cost. Fingers crossed PNA will do the right thing here if there is a problem.

From day one my car has got stuck in first gear at least twice a week. Red lining every time. I even video taped it.
The dealership has no answers.
So frustrating
I need some help please
