Hello,

This not really a complaint, My turbo started to shudder when I was backing up and when I put it drive it would shudder in 1st, 2nd and a little in 3rd. The car has 14k miles. I brought to the dealer and it turns out that the transfer case has gone out. The dealer was great.
We are awaiting new cv joints that Porsche recommended to be replaced also.

The car has been a great car, this is more of a heads up to all on this forum.

Hi all. Thanks for all the information in this forum. My 2015 Macan S, 25k and 6 months out of warranty (2nd owner) will now need a transfer case. Also, another issues dealer (Napleton Porsche of Westmont) found out front differential fluid leak, they said I will need a front new cover. May be the seal is bad? So reseal will solve the problem? My dealer went out to talk to PCNA, I personally also called PCNA over the hotline to complaint about the transfer case issues. Dealer called me yesterday afternoon and ask me a few questions like 1) where did you buy the car; 2) who did the maintenance; 3) do you have other Porsche car? Mine own opinion is PCNA should have recalled the transfer case or at least quietly extend the transfer case warranty to 7 years or so. Given that they now sold 1/3 of Macan (86K) and 1/2 SUVs for 2018 (total 256k). This is a bad press for them.

In the end, I will foot 20% for the bill. Which is about $700 for the transfer case replacement and $500 for the new differential cover. Of course it is not 100%, but given that I don't even do my routine service (only warranty and recall issues) at the dealers. This would be a surprise outcome for me. I did research online and call a reputable 3rd party Eurocar repair shop for estimate. Latest Transfer case (95B341010AX) is about $1300 depends where you bought it and after you returned the core unit. Differential cover is not sure, coz 3rd party didn't have the car just over the phone, she said is about $600 for the labor to remove the cover. So, who knows? Just a note, the X means it is a renewed unit.

Also, discussion also mentioned from PCNA that if in the future they did recall the transfer call, I will get a letter and I can reimburse some or all of the money that I paid. So keep the receipts.

I hope my informations help others in this forum. And thanks you all for provided informations.

Me too. 2015 Macan S out of warranty

Add me. And read my story in a different thread under Transfer Case page 20. Thanks

That's just a big IF. No planned recall yet.

Porsche did recalled on the 2011-2016 Cayenne. It took a long time for them to officially recognize this issue and did something. I brought this up during phone call as in the past I had paid $$$ for Apple to fix my Iphone and after a few months Apple recalled. I ended up bringing my receipts to Apple Store and got the differences back from Apple Store. PCNA asked me to keep the receipt just in case Porsche recall the transfer case in the future.

In for possible transfer case failure

Thank goodness I purchased my used '16 S certified preowned and it is under warranty. It has 33k on it and was displaying all the symptoms of a failing transfer case (to me it is similar to feeling to the clutch slipping on a manual transmission when accelerating or as others have described it a "shudder") so dropped it off at Porsche this morning. Service rep said it sure sounded like it will need to be replaced as he's seen this before! I'll update as soon as I know more.

I am waiting for Porsche to recall the Macan TC, like they did before to Cayenne.

I read somewhere on this forum that Cayenne had the TC recall by Porsche.

A lot more Macans were produced that would fall into this recall for a TC replacement than for the one Porsche had for the Cayenne. I do not see one happening based on that reason.

You should ask Porsche to reimburse at least part of the cost.

You can add me to the list of replaced transfer cases, 2015 S at 38,200 miles.

Started noticing catching and slipping when turning into my garage and when accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear. I brought it to the Porsche dealership in Birmingham, MI (Fred Lavery) where the service rep immediately diagnosed the TC issue. He also mentioned it was the 3rd he had seen that week... Initial quote for TC replacement out of warranty was $4500. Fortunately, my service rep was able to work with PCNA to get the total cost down to $600 out the door and I left pretty happy. Start to finish it took 3 days to get it back.

Good job!

^^^ Glad Porsche is standing behind its cars!

This should be the action going forward for us if any doubt about TC issue comes up.

grim, do you have any stats on transfer-case failure by model year?
In a quick look at the most recent cases posted here, I do not see any 2018 Macans...
Have any 2018 Macans had a transfer-case failure? You'd think that Porsche would figure out the problem and stop shipping out new vehicles that can have the failure...

Another one here.

2016 Macan S. 55,000km on it. Started a few thousand kilometers ago, particularly noticeable on downshifts.

Took Vancouver Porche almost a week to diagnose and get approval for repair under warranty. Apparently they had to contact Toronto with diagnostic info, wait several days for them to get back (and suggest a software update - which didn't work) and then go back for reapproval to replace the transfer case.

Also took 3 weeks to get the "earliest" available appointment at the dealer. Argh.

Make sure they do it right! From you post it does not seem they have much experience in replacing TC.
