I still pronounce Porsche as porsch even though I know its Porsche. Just sayin

Same thing with Pecan...You can pronounce it with two different ways depending on where you are from!

 

"ma shon" sounds too bourgeois to me, "Ma-can" sounds better to me, but i guess we'll have to see how reviewers and Porsche themselves call it.

 

I've been pronouncing Macan as Ma-cahn, sort of like pe-cahn..

One guy says it's pronounced Porsch-A, see the video below. The name came from the founder, it's his last name and it's how his name is pronounced.

does anyone know where they got the name "macan" from? It might help with understanding the name more and even get down to it's roots to find out how other people pronounced it.

 

Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger.

 

This is like when people say Tar-gey, instead of Target. Pronouncing it differently than everyone else does not make you any cooler. I will continue to call it the Ma-can. And I call it Porsch and not Porsche.

I came across something recently where someone said that you pronounce it as "porsch" before you have one & as "porsh-a" after you do.

OK, I get it, it sounds like Macan is pronounced differently in the states. It will be interesting to see how the Porsche people say it in their commercials.

 

I don't think anyone will say anything regardless of how you pronounce it. Most people don't pronounce Porsche the same way.

 

I have been hearing two different ways people pronounce porshe. I don't care too much unless its taken wayyy out of proportion.

Based upon that, the proper pronunciation is "Ma tan." I'll stick with "Ma Kahn'."

Ma-chan with the emphasis on the first syllable is proper Bahasa Indonesia pronunciation.

 

This would be the closest pronounciation of macan. MA-TCHAN very close to Matches.

 

And all this time I've been pronouncing it MA-CAN as in beer CAN lol.

It's Muh-Conn. Thats how every Porsche exec says it.

Muh-Cann seems to be how european journalists refer to it.

 

Ugh, cringeworthy if they'd pronounce it like that.

It's not really "muh" but "mah". "Mah-Kahn".

Or "Ma-Tchan" in its native tongue.

 

Yeah the results are similar. I think "Muh-Conn" is just reverting to an American or otherwise tongue (not always the most cultured in pronunciation, and I'm an American), via pronouncing an "uh" and "onn" more heavily in place of distinct "ah's".

Most cringeworthy is "Can" which I've heard some reviewers say. Definitely not proper pronunciation!
