Whatever connects to PCM though gateway is lost. That will most likely generate a bunch of passive faults in ECU. But the answer to your question can be found in a different thread. I remember someone in a different thread detailing what would be lost and me deciding not to go that route. I just need to find it.
Yeah seems like more of a hassle throwing codes and whatnot. I've been chatting with the MR12volt folks and they are saying the audio will still be much better than another 3rd party solutions using the aux functionally. It seems like you're a real audio pro, do you think this would be the case with their base audio mod?

I don’t consider myself an audio pro, just someone that have tested a lot of different systems and combinations… and have my own perception of how good audio should sound…but thank you? 😊

Honestly, I’m not sure about this mod with the base system, just because the base system doesn’t have MOST25. However, not having to go through AUX is clearly an advantage in my opinion. In my specific case, it is my opinion that Mr12volt is a significant improvement over Isudar and Joye (both of which I had installed) with audio quality, when using MOST25 with Bose, Burmester or like in my case, a full aftermarket system.

However, the Tesla sized screen you were eluding before also has MOST25 output. It may be a good solution. Some people here have installed it, you may want to talk to them. In the meantime, you can look at this: Tesla Style Android Screen navigation backup Camera...

As far as the faults, they are going to be passive, meaning you will not know they are there unless you use a scanner. Maybe a PCM delete would be the way to go.

Most recent FW update is nice (10/19/2022) - Carplay connection is much smoother - no weird drop outs on audio connection between calls and texts with Siri anymore on iOS 16.xx, although I think this was addressed on the last update. Canbus wake is now deactivated - not sure if this a good or bad thing, but the unit no longer grabs onto my phone randomly when I am in my office which is relatively close to the garage.
Not sure if any DSP changes were made, by my initial audition the crackling is mostly gone and good lord the bass is back - I had to turn those channels down. I thought it was just my imagination but the last update I did really neutered the bass frequencies.
Notable mention - Mr12Volts service is unreal - I had a defective mic jack on my first unit, they sent out a whole new unit overnight without question.
If anyone is considering this and cares about audio quality, I would absolutely recommend it!

I've had my carplay unit for 1 week. Loving it thus far. 2 questions for the experts:

1. Is there a way to have the steering wheel controls pick up/hang up phone calls?
2. Is there a way to have phone calls default to carplay rather than PCM bluetooth? Or is the best solution to disconnect bluetooth entirely?

Thinking about pulling the trigger on Mr12volt over the Isudar, Joyeauto, GTA Car Kit for my 2015 Turbo, but wanted to get a final opinion for those we are running Mr12volt on any regrets? @Santirx posts/videos are awesome! Well done. Thank you. The Mr12volt logo kinda bothers me but it is minor. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

The boot up logo (screen splash) can be changed. The icon can’t be changed, but if that bothers you, you can move it to the second screen. The icon is like any other app icon. I would just prefer it was a Porsche emblem icon.

From my point of view and recent experience, Mr12Volt have solved the clicks and pops situation, which was the only lingering issue.

My mr12volt arrived. I installed it last night and my PCM keeps restarting mid-boot cycle. Without board, it works fine. I also have a spare PCM which does the exact same thing. So I am thinking that when iSudar was draining my battery, it damaged it and when I install additional boards in PCM, voltage in PCM drops below a certain voltage and it restarts. I’m going to replace the battery and update.
I also wonder if anyone has had success with joker button skipping tracks in CarPlay. Is that not possible?

Not possible for now… on the joker. I can suggest to Mr12volt. I also would like to see more interaction with the MFD, as they display P2000, but would like to see if we can get the track information and maybe track list…

Does this happen when you are hooked up to charge? what is the battery voltage ?

Yes. I just replaced the battery. Apparently the previous owner installed an ACDepco non-AGM battery. When I hooked up the new battery it was 12.4. Notw with engine on, it’s 14.5 in the gauge cluster.

All of this nightmare started when I was updating iSudar. I wasn’t connected to a charger while I was doing it.

So is there anything other than 10A fuse E2 that can limit power to PCM? Although battery didn’t help, I still feel like it is a power limitation issue. I may try disconnecting a module, say Xm (which I absolutely never use) or cd drive and try again. I already switched to SSD HDD thinking that it would reduce power consumption. No clue what else I can do. Open to any suggestions.
If I can’t find a fix I’ll try returning all boards, sell my spare PCM and switch to aftermarket Tesla screen.

New piece of information: it may be shortage of power. I removed XM board and it works flawlessly. :D
For those who have XM radio, if u run into any issues, try removing it. ISudar probably has a similar problem. The new firmware in my car would need XM removed. I guess I will keep Mr12volt though as long as it wouldn’t have issues.
Wireless CarPlay works and even the non-audiophile in me can tell the difference in quality of sound. Finally I have CarPlay working in the car again.
@Santirx I (or should I say we) owe you on this. Thank you! So far I like Mr12v better. I have done the mic hack but haven’t tested the mic yet. Now I’ll be trying to return iSudars and sell my spare PCM. Anyone interested in a working PCM3.1 with all options (nav, XM, etc) with SSD upgrade for $400 shipped? It is not cosmetically perfect. The knobs are worn and has small scratches on the trim.

One more difference between iSudar and Mr12v: Mr12v has a shorter lag in audio. it ia acceptable delay. iSudar had a significant audio delay. I think it was longer than 1 sec and was very annoying. Every time I skipped a track, the screen updated instantly but it would take a while before the audio followed.

I don’t have the issue you are describing with under voltage, even though I have XM radio board in place. But great that this solved your specific issue.

I also experienced that delay you mentioned when I had Joye and Isudar. Agree that Mr12Volt is faster.

Not sure but in your install video, I thought I didn’t see the same XM board as mine in ur PCM. that was why my I originally thought of removing XM and trying again. I wonder if I have a different version of XM board than urs. In my PCM, XM is huge and leaves barely enough space for the Mr12v or iSudar board to be added. It’s a very tight fit and requires some changes to make the board fit. Without XM, I thought it looked like yours… perhaps I should watch the video one more time.

@Santirx i stand corrected. I had seen the section of ur video where u had removed XM on the first attempt to fit Mr12volt. My XM is like yours. And somehow both my PCMs won’t boot with XM+mr12v installed. Tried it numerous times. It is a repeatable experience. It’s likely something in my car and not the PCM, hence both PCMs behave similarly. But I don’t care about XM anyway. Once something has Bluetooth or USB, XM is worthless to me. Let alone having CarPlay. I just see in the forums where some people rave about XM and I don’t get it. I don’t even use their free promotions. And they keep calling and sending mail with every new car I get. The audio quality is not as good, I don’t connect to the content and it is not on-demand. I’m just glad that PCM does boot without it. I was worried that PCM might not like its absence.
once you experience the sound quality you get with Apple Music and Mr12v, there is no going back…

Yes, I agree. I don’t use XM Radio either.

Quick updates:
  • I have absolutely no popping sounds.
  • board location: I was able to install the external module in the space above PCM. photo attached. I fastened in place using heated butyl tape. no chance of rattling.
  • to fit PCM back in the slot I used the ziptie trick of zip tying large connectors and pulling them from the side to slide them away from the PCM’s space.
  • connectivity has been solid. Thumbs up.
  • I’m still struggling with video settings. I can’t get the colors to be what I like so far. I thought iSudar was calibrated better at factory.
  • while I enjoy the clarity of sound (and I can finally hear the proper staging by the amp), I’m trying to increase low base a bit. I wonder if firmware updates would help (photo of my firmware attached) Any suggestions appreciated.
  • @Santirx: where could I get the macan turbo silhouette for boot up? Would PCM’s HDD have it? I have the original HDD on my desk. There are some logos stored in the unit (passcode 688612) but the Porsche one looks miserable.
  • I’m planning to replace the current Bose base module with one of those that fit inside the spare wheel. I should be able to find one hanging around at Bose and I think they are stronger.

Interesting placement of the blue box. The only issue with that placement is with firmware updates. Mr12Volt firmware updates are done via microSD card in that blue box. It seems you need to update your box to latest firmware already (latest = 20221019B).

You could run a microSD extension to somewhere you can get access to, but you need to insert the microSD with power to blue box off (disconnecting power harness) then connecting back… that could theoretically be accomplished by removing the PCM fuse. But could get complicated. This is why I installed the blue box in an accessible area in mine. However, if it wasn’t for that, your location would be outstanding. I just hope Mr12volt finds a way to update the firmware via USB like it was with Isudar.

To boost the base, you can play with the equalizer. Also, it seems the latest firmware also boost the bass a bit.

I only have access to the Macan S boot up logo. I also have the Porsche emblem logo, which is the one that comes on first…I could send that one to you via PM if you want. You will see the emblem, then a quick transition to the same emblem (in substitution of the Mr12Volt logo).
