For me there are three reasons for winter tires on dedicated rims.
1. I like the increased performance you get by using summer tires and winter tires in the appropriate seasons.
2. Summer 20's are $1500 per set. Winter 19's are $950 per set. I love the idea that High Performance winter tires are cheaper than standard performance all seasons, and it saves wear on the summer tires to boot.
3. Kinda like how the ladies like to put different color towels in the bathroom to change the look, I like to put different wheels on the car to change the look of it. I've got a floor jack and room in the garage to store the tire set that isn't in use, so the swap out is no big deal.
You also save damage to your stock rims from the monkeys flipping the tires twice a year. . .

Alas, some more shots of my winter 18s..

Didn't have the BBS caps When I got the 18" Conti Barum (Option 1) winter tires. The Porsche Caps from the 19" All Season Tires were put onto it instead. E-mailed Allen as well. Will try to post pics of the Sapphire Blue Macan S with the winter tires on once I can get my account to add them :)

Thanks, invu!

You're right. They didn't put the BBS caps on my 20" RS Spyders. I'll email Allen and ask for them. I appreciate the heads up!

@Bull_Market - having too much fun in the snow? (maybe not today anyways).

Where was this plug when we were getting prices?! That sounds like an amazing deal...

What rubber did you end up going with? And did the price include the TPMS sensors?

Anyone got Rial P10s for winter tires on their Macan S?

I'd like to see how it looks because they look very similar to the 19 turbo wheels
Black Rial 18" from Tire Rack with Hakka R2 snow tires and AS on low.

Hi Guys,
I went through the thread and was wondering if anyone could help me out:
1) Do Rims have to be TPMS compatible for it to continue functioning? Should I decide on getting a non-porsche rim?
2) For those in the Greater Toronto Area, any recommendations for competitively priced wheels/tires and whom can also store my current All-weather?
Much appreciated :)

(1) Rims are all TPMS compatible
(2) Tire Rack is cheaper than any custom wheels in Canada. But they won't store your wheels. Seriously, though, Kal Tire has good Hakka R2 prices. Can't help you with rims in TO.

1) Pretty well all rims after tpms compatible. I cannot think of any rims out there is not.
Just like the many forum members here who actually went with aftermarket rims. The TPMS you can source out yourself or you can buy from dealers, if desired. GTA Porsche dealers will charge you about $600+ Cdn for the set while the outside tires/wheels shop will charge you about $350 Cdn - $400 Cdn range. The importance is to get the correct frequency which is 433mhz which VW and Audi also uses for their models as well.

2) check out simply tires (North Toronto) and Tires23 (Mississauga and Markham). These two shops are reputable and their prices are not the cheapest nor the highest but the services and selection of tires & wheels are pretty good. I know Simply has an 3rd party tire storage which charge about $110 + taxes per season. There are other shops who may charge less, such as Joy City tires (Markham) who charge about $75 + taxes per season

Disclosure. I bought my winter set from Simply tires, along with a bunch of other GTA Porsche bloggers here as well.

Thanks a lot for this detailed and helpful response. Appreciate your time :)

factory or not to be?

Premier Tire has been good to me... $1400 all in for 18" rims & rubber (including tax!)

Hey Bull Market, Your winter running shoes looks great, OMG with a fantastic Canadian price. Do you think I can get a deal close to yours at premiertire this year with the same configure? I have a 2016 Macan S.

Or alternative that I can buy from Pfaff for a 5 spokes winter rims, tpms & tires at $3195 installed which is not too bad?

Joe,

I don't believe Dan's package has tpms. Because the breakdown of rims are already near $800 + tires $600 already.

Just call Premier up and see ...
