Year:
2015-16
This is my latest experiment…. This one will be uninstalled and returned as I got another one that seems to have better integration and much cleaner look with better trim details…. I was able to secure digital quality audio end to end and the sound is as good as PCM3.1 digital. No loss of audio quality…

Trims are not all the way in, as I’m going to be swapping all this next week, but I wrapped one of them in brushed aluminum to match the rest of my trims which were already wrapped.

Overall impressions are good. I lost intersection light (which I was expecting and not a big deal), and map/audio screens in MFD which I just unselected and now they don’t even show up (I never used that). Other than that, good integration.

Steering wheel controls worked with android radio, but only volume, mute and “call hang up” works for CarPlay, which is the exact same behavior of OEM CarPlay in my 718.

I’m pleasantly surprised at how good this looks in person.

Installation and details video coming soon in my channel (https://youtube.com/@porscheDIY?sub_confirmation=1), after I receive the other unit.

If you have seen my videos on PCM3.1 CarPlay upgrade, you know that I started with Joye CP module, then moved to Isudar, then to Mr12Volt. Mr12Volt audio quality and connection reliability were the best, but fall short with video quality. This is yet the latest adventure with my head unit.

If you're experiencing this issue:

I received a patch last night. YMMV:

It's an APK file..copy to a USB drive (or I guess download direct to unit) and then click on it from the file manager.

Thanks for the file. It worked in mine as well. But it seems to have changed the units to F. No functionality to the switch though.

@djbooya , when you press the Diamond (joker) button on your steering wheel, does it advance the sources on the 12.3 ? Mine does, super annoying. I have notified them. If yours does this as well could you let then know ? Hoping for a patch !!!!!
cheers

Do you guys get elevation data on your dashboard after the change to the new radio?
Image

I used to get this coming from the old unit and assumed I would get it from the GPS data over the canbus interface (similar to how the compass is showing).. I have a report in with the vendor, but curious if I'm the only one that has this issue and something I need to debug locally on my setup (vs issue with unit/code).

#329 ·
There is no LVDS data coming from the new 12.3
Probably why . There is now no PCM, no NAV Data.

I coded out the LVDS line in the IC so I do not have the LBDS fault, that you most likely have .
No. Biggie for me :)

#330 ·
Where does the compass data come from? I was under the impression that was coming from NAV / GPS data from the radio? I guess not? Are you using PIWIS 3 or Launch or something else for coding? I'm debating on what system I want to invest in and may decide to pickup the PIWIS 3, but need to determine if its worth the $ for me. I have an Autel tool now (https://amzn.to/3H1oSST) for all the regular maintenance functions..

#332 ·
That's why I thought the elevation data would make it back to dashboard as well since the compass data was showing... I assumed the elevation data came from GPS and not from the NAV unit, but maybe that's the issue..

Let me double check..I thought I heard those...

No seatbelt sound, no door sound. What I heard was the parking sensors and when you leave car in drive and turn engine off reminder. Audio volume is much improved though so I will deal and report the bug and hope for the best.

So I finally got around installing my unit. Overall, the biggest challenge was cable management. It took me a whole hour to work out how to tuck all that mess in behind the unit.

After that was done, everything seemed to work mostly fine.

The MOST-TOSLINK box also works wonderfully. The sound quality is just as good as my previous unit, which had a TOSLINK port directly integrated in the back of the unit.

I also installed a USB DAB+ dongle, plugging directly to the DAB+ wiring of the car. And reused the OEM GPS antenna with a fakra adapter.

I haven't had the chance to test everything out, but so far, the only problems I've had are the reverse camera (no feed, probs a software configuration issue), and the diamond button switching sources in the unit (I have it mapped to some other car-related function).

So far, though, I am very happy!

PS: Just for info, I purchased two original 95B.2 side vents, in order to match the style of the new center vents. Unfortunately, I can confirm these are NOT a direct swap, and won't fit the Dainav trim. Perhaps with some modifications, these could be made to fit... but that's not something that I am ready to undertake. I might, however, look into fitting the silver metal trim from the new vents in the original vents. That should bring the style closer to being a match.

I am having trouble finding the optical cables that plug into the blue box.

I believe I may the challenge mentioned above -

  • The MOST adapter with TOSLINK port is NOT plug-and-play for this unit. That's because the non-TOSLINK box uses a 8-cable socket for the 12V, Ground, etc, while the TOSLINK box uses instead a 6-cable socket. As our headunit comes pre-wired for the non-TOSLINK box, it uses the 8-cable socket plugs. This, however, should be easy to fix by re-routing the cables to the plug that comes with the TOSLINK box. So minor modification required.
I have two green cables that run into the 8 cable socket box how are people handling this or am I missing something.

I basically have no sound but everything else appears to work.

I figured out how to get the two green cables unplugged from the 8 Cable socket box.

The way I fixed it was by replacing the 8-pin wiring loom coming from the headunit, with the 6-pin wiring loom provided with the new TOSLINK box. I did the following:
  1. The 8-pin wiring loom for the original blue MOST box had five wires connected to it:
    1. Yellow (power)
    2. Red (accessory power)
    3. Black (ground)
    4. Red/black (left/right analog audio channel)
  2. For the new box, we only need 1, 2 and 3. So we cut those being generous with the length, by cutting as close as possible to the connector connecting to the blue box (we will discard that connector at the end, along with the two analog audio cables for the R and L channels)
  3. Then, we get the new 6-pin wiring loom from the TOSLINK unit, which should have three cables connected to it:
    1. Yellow (power)
    2. Red (accessory power)
    3. Black (ground)
  4. We solder the three cables from the 6-pin loom, to the three cables going to the unit (the ones from step #1) by colour matching: black with black, red with red and yellow with yellow
  5. After this, the wiring is good. We can now connect the 6-pin loom coming from the headunit to the new TOSLINK box. Important to understand is that these three cables only deal with the power management of the box. They do NOT carry audio.
  6. When installing everything, an additional TOSLINK/SPDIF cable should be connected from the TOSLINK box to the headunit. This cable is the one carrying the audio. This cable was provided in the same package as the TOSLINK box.
With that, my unit worked without issues. Hopefully that helps.

Awesome . I have 2 questions on this Toslink setup.

1) in the DAINAV EQ , are you able to fade from full front to full rear ?
) Are you getting the Canbus alerts in the speakers ? Door chimes, etc ..

#347 ·
About the fading, I haven't tested. But I'd be surprised if that was the case. I think internally the protocol works with two channels only. But I can test it in the next days and let you know.

Regarding the canbus alerts, I haven't paid much attention. I did get, however, a chime warning me about "putting the gear lever in P position". So at least, that one did produce a sound without issues.

That being said, I suspect these chimes are independent of the headunit. I was getting them even while trying to install the headunit... and at that point, the only thing I had in the dashboard was a big hole. So no headunit at all :p

I think the biggest loss is the integration with the instrument cluster MFD: you won't see the map in the MFD, nor you'll get the information about altitude, etc.

Also, because the car isn't able to access the GPS maps from the unit, two additional functions are lost:
  • The speed limit display in the MFD, which requires GPS map data (in addition to the data fed by the overhead front camera)
  • The PDLS+ activation of cornering lights when approaching roundabouts
Other than that, I can't remember other stuff that is lost in the process. Perhaps others can chime in.

#354 ·
Honestly, you won't be disappointed. The device itself looks pretty OEM, and the main software also does. Of course it has some glitches here and there, as expected from every product from AliExpress. But so far, nothing that couldn't be resolved. The community here has been of massive help.

I personally recommend it.

Need some help. Should this quadlock adapter be easy to connect? Should slide in and lock nice and easy? For some reason I can't get this to connect fully. Made sure the lever is fully up but it will not slide in and lock, didn't want to force it either for fear of bending pins, etc . Is there a trick for this? Connecting back to factory radio is no problem so I'm suspecting an issue with the quadlock power adapter for the aftermarket radio. The seller claims the issue is not their part and my installation. Ive attached a pic of it trying to connect.

#357 ·
If I remember correctly, it doesn’t slide all the way in. The last part is done by means of closing the latch. As you close it, that will pull the remainder of the plug in, if that makes sense.

#362 ·
After some wiggling and force it finally seated. Not the greatest fit but I guess it will have to do. I don't see any connection for this to the upgraded radio, is this ok or the radio is missing it? Also, can I used the factory sat radio connection for the 4G input? Thanks!

There are some new 12.3" Android units with a Qualcomm CPU and slightly different vent appearance showing up on Aliexpress now. Two advantages:
1. They are cheaper - selling for about $700 shipped
2. They have a version for PCM 4.0 available. These are labeled "B" model while PCM 3.1 is the "A" model.

The trim and airflow rerouting looks similar to the Dainav unit. The Qualcomm CPU is 8-core with 8GB RAM and 128GB flash running Android 13. Hard to find info on this CPU but I think it has similar performance to the UIS7862 used in the Dainav.
