I am surprised by the number of used Macan's for sale, considering it is new car.
By large number, do you mean hundreds? Thousands? How or where did you see this ?

Just curious because a friend of mine just looked here in Southern California and what was advertised was not really available and what was available inventory miraculously got sold just before he called them.

I'm sure there are used Macans available but I wonder what the number is relative to what has been sold and in what part of the world. Thus my question.

Just curious.

Most are demos, at least here in Canada. Dealers will be getting new cars for demos soon.

Almost all are dealer demos

My local dealer was providing all test drives in a 2014 Macan. That worked for 2014 and 2015, but now they are selling that model with 4k miles on it and will have a 2016 available shortly. I saw a number of low mileage 2014 models that were available but in my opinion the discount was not large enough for me not to order a new one.

One of the dealerships near me has (or had) what it called "auction cars"; not sure what that means. Cars coming out of rental fleets, maybe? Or does that mean offloaded lemons? They showed 4K to 10K in mileage, didn't have histories, and didn't carry much of a discount, so I wasn't interested.

The other dealership near me seems to have the occasional S traded in toward a Turbo; still not much discount, but better luck with maintenance and ownership records.

I was at a dealer in Florida, and someone was trading one in. Both dealerships here in Chicagoland have one for sale.

Compare that to SQ5's which a used one is pretty rare.

For a car that has been available less than a year it just seems a fair number of people changed their mind.

Sorry if you already posted this. Do you have a Macan on order or do you have one already?

Not yet but working on ordering one and have been debating that and the SQ5.

Just want to make sure before I spend 75k, I will not have regrets.
I was thinking of the SQ5 as well. In the end, I went with Macan since the "old" SQ5 just seemed a bit dated. Also, it will be a new design coming soon. Didn't want a new car that basically was the old model within its fist year.

In Aus, there are 19 Macans for sale at the moment. The cheapest one is selling at a slight premium over a new one. So, a good example for how supply and demand works. :)

When I was doing my searches,
most of the websites have listings by dealers that have long ago already come and gone through inventory.

If you're looking at dealer listings, I wouldn't trust anything till you call and verify

There is about the same amount of SQ5 used and Macan S used on the market for the entire country now. Granted, yes, SQ5 been on the market longer, but SQ5 made actually quite less than Macan S, in terms of proportion of new cars sold vs used car on the market normalized by time on the market, one is actually not much higher than the other.

Anyways, that was actually not my point, because it doesn't tell me why people want to sell them. But I personally know 6 people, including myself, who bought a Macan S for less than a year, and either decide to upgrade to a better optioned Macan S or a Macan Turbo. Like what I just did. When there new car gets here, they trade it in. Because of nature of SQ5 being mostly fully optioned, and the nature of Porsche having a billion options, people have regrets more and wanted to buy a new one more. That is one reason there is so much used ones on the market.

Also there was a high demand of Macan with no supply (especially between December and March of this year). Some people were able to sell their slightly used Macan S for a small profit. I was offered 3k less than what I paid for my Macan S during that time, but it had over 7000miles. A friend of mine loved his car, and his car had way less miles (like 1000 some miles, and his car is more basic optioned) and sold his car for 3.5k profit, and ordered a brand new one, and drove his other car until his order came. That was another reason people put up their Macan S for sale.

Anyway, im sure some people did change their minds and didn't love it. I met one person who loves the driving but he really needed the extra space so he ended up trading it in for the Cayenne, which he later regretted.

Point is a lot of people didn't sell their used macan in less than 1 year because they didn't like it. Some ordered a better Macan, some wanted a small profit, some actually didn't like it.

There's actually a really small group of used models I think. It's surprising how quickly used models typically show up when a car gets launched. Macan's are holding their values nearly in full so far (asking prices, which is more than other cars can say), which is most telling.
