Brave. I thought about doing that too for the same reason but was concerned about visibility. Even though the F1 Pinnacle film has excellent visibility, there’s a chance of distortion. Didn’t want to risk it so I bought the OEM windshield on sale at local dealer for $65 which was cheaper than Amazon or Suncoast.
Distortion would be my concern as well. Besides, in Mass you're only allowed to tint the top 6" of your windshield.

Jeeze! That's the best price I have ever seen on an OEM windshield! Is the sale price still in effect? /forum/images/MacanForum/smilies/tango_face_smile_big.png
I think it was through June 30th only. I lucked out. Was looking on Suncoast and Amazon and got an email from local dealer few days later with their parts special. One of the items on sale was the OEM sunshade. Dealer is Porsche of Fremont.

I picked up the OEM shade few weeks ago as well. Decided to go OEM for the fit. I like the carrying bag and the thickness of the piece. One thing I’ve noticed though is that anyone with the panoramic sunroof needs to get it tinted. The heat that comes through the roof is the main culprit making the interior hot. I had my front windows tinted and the front windshield blocked with the sunshade. When we has 98* days here in NorCal it was still hot inside. This was caused by the roof. I’ve made an appointment to have it tinted in a few weeks. That would cover everything.
I've recently found if you push the sunroof button once quickly, the motorized sunshade opens only a couple inches and the sunroof opens to just the vent position. Between my front door windows tinted at 35%, the sunshade & sunroof open at the vent position, and my new windshield sunshade...the interior stays much cooler than it used to in full sun.
Ah, good tip. Thanks! I’m wary of having things open for bugs and dust getting in but might try thag next time. This Summer has been mild so far with a few really hot days sprinkled in.

+1 on the Porsche sunshade, best one I have found by far. Bought a Covercraft branded one for my wife’s Lexus too.

I'm using the OEM for a few months and works like a charm. Very good quality, definitely worth the price. And...every time it reminds you, that your car is a Porsche :D You have to pay a price for that:laugh:

We here in New England just experienced a 5 day heatwave where each day was in the 90's, and since my Macan is parked outside when I'm at work in a big shade deprived parking lot, it was definitely time to invest in a windshield sun shade if I didn't want to cook my leather seats or dashboard. So after looking online at a number of manufacturers, I actually decided on the OEM Porsche sun shade, mostly for the quality aspect compared to what the other manufacturers had to offer. The Porsche sun shade is thicker, has a nice felt outer edge, and a dark felt backside...even comes with a nice Porsche vinyl storage bag!

The best price I found was $60.90 on eBay with free shipping...

And here's what it looks like installed...

The same, or very similar, shade without the Porsche logo is available from Intro-tech for about $33, with free shipping. They manufacture it specifically for your car after your order, so it fits well. It also has the "black side out" for the winter.

This thread came just at the perfect time. It is hotter than blazes (and weirdly humid, for here) on the Arizona / Las Vegas / Death Valley leg of our road trip, and although the car cools quickly, it will cool more quickly with a good quality shade like this. The dog will especially appreciate this. Thank you!

Thanks all. It's time to replace my 14 year old Saturn Vue sunshield. All my co workers say I'm doing an injustice to my Macan with the sight of that Saturn logo sunshield.
I also put a towel covering the steering wheel and covering the front seats when parked at work in the hot sun.
Luckily the S is in the garage at home.
Well at least during these Summer months I forget about neglecting to order the heated steering wheel..lol.

I have my Covercraft sun shade from my Macan that I am now using in my 911. It's ever so slightly too big but works fine.

One does need to be careful when removing it after a long time in the sun. They get very hot.

As for tilting the roof, first and foremost the pano is the dumbest thing anyone can get. It's been said it adds about a thousand pounds to the absolute worst part of the car, the roof, high above the center of gravity. And, if you are only a mediocre driver who is not one with your car, you can still tell that pano wallowing around when cornering. ;)

Now, personally, I'm less than mediocre so I would never buy a car without a pano.

Unfortunately all cars work differently when tilting the roof. Do it on the Macan, if I'm not mistaken, and you can have the inner shade almost fully closed. It will remain open about an inch or so, perhaps to remind you the roof it popped up?

On my 911, you can pop the roof and completely close the shade.

On my F150, if you want to pop the huge pano, the inside shade must remain completely open, which is dumb and sucks.

Oh, did I say no serious driver would ever get a pano because it weighs as much as two elephants and completely ruins the handling?

I say keep it till it falls apart. I find it humbling.

I've searched for actual data supporting this sensible conclusion & found none. Maybe auto makers do not wish to stop people from ordering this expensive option? I need my tilt sunroof due to the Summer temperatures, here in the desert. My Macan has the glass one & my 911 will have a metal one.

I did find this:

I'm a poser Porsche owner who's never taken this thing to the track so I got the pano roof. I find the luxury pampering features of the pano roof to be very versatile like cashmere toilet paper. I use the vent feature so long as I'm confident there won't be a flash Texas thunderstorm. I made that mistake before on my GTI when as I went in to see a movie. Left my roof glass tilted to vent without knowing a thunderstorm rolled by so when I braked at my first stop light, water came out of the roof and onto my lap.

BTW, there is 3M Crystalline tint film that can be applied to windshields. It's pretty much completely clear so Johnny law would never know but it also blocks a lot of radiant heat.

Guys are there no regulations on tinting complete windscreens - not an advantage for night driving at all...

Like the OEM and I now feel a bit cheap with my £5 special - reckon its always a good idea to protect the leather.

Clear window tint film exists now.
Clear Window Tint| LLumar

I don't have it but if I had to park outside a lot, I'd consider it.

Here in Massachusetts...

Tint darkness:

Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed on the AS-1 line or top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in.
Back Side windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in.
Rear Window: Must allow more than 35% of light in.

Tint reflection:

Front Side windows: Must not be more than 35% reflective.
Back Side windows: Must not be more than 35% reflective.

(5)the use of any transparent material limited to the uppermost 6'' along the top of the windshield, provided such strip does not encroach upon the driver's direct forward viewing area as more particularly described and defined in applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Interesting. In UK there are no rules for tinting the rear windscreen or rear passenger windows - must say both look particularly dark on my Macan. But the front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through. What we have therefore is a bit of a split uneven look as we cant have the front side windows as dark as the rears and matching.
