Really? I paid about $200 for mine new. Compared to other devices and dealer charges that seems like a bargain especially since it does oil resets and parking brake resets.
My apologies. It's the Autel MS906 that he uses in the video (assuming you watched the same video I did) Don't believe I have ever seen them for below $750.

But perhaps did you see a video of someone successfully using an MD808 for a Macan battery registration? That would be a game changer.

In this video he is clearly using the MD808 pro I referred to.
and at the 1:35 second mark he calls it out by name.
Someone on this forum gave me the idea to purchase this device for oil changes and more. Whoever it was I owe them a thank you!

Nice find! As you can see in the comments section of the video I've asked them to confirm this will work on a Macan.

Excellent! Sounds as if we finally have an affordable tool to register new batteries.

At 7:45 in this video
it does seem to show this works with Porsche. Looks like it also works with the parking brake service too.

My bad everyone. I have the md808 and thought everyone knew it did battery, oil, intermediate service reset, e-brake and more. It’s a slow processor for data log display but I don’t really care about that. Everything else is real and it works well. I picked it up for 167 at that online river store, so keep an eye out for the price fluctuations.

Let me know if you need a picture or test of something.

Now, my big question is if we can use a battery number from new macan to reset the system with the interstate battery or one like it...assuming the battery doesn’t have one on it.

So Amazon sellers have the MD808 Pro "from" $245 & there is a note:
"There is a newer model of this item"

Link to:
Autel MP808 OBD2 Scanner Professional OE-Level Diagnostics with Bi-Directional Control, Active Tests, Key Programming, SAS, EPB, BMS, DPF, Oil, TPMS Reset, ABS Bleeding

$749.00
Quite a big price difference.

Is the $249 price on the older model bc it is discontinued?

Thought it was interesting one of the videos mentioned it’s now common for AGM batteries charged using battery management software (like what we have on our Macans) to last 8 or 9 years.

Not sure how accurate the Amazon comment about the newer model is.

The MK series is an totally different line of diagnostic tools that have Bi-Directional Control, and the MD series does not have this advanced feature.

Difficult to imagine Autel would discontinue the MD808 without replacing it with something at least as capable. And if you look at the long term history of diagnostic tools, like with most tech each successive generation is less expensive and more capable.

I would also add it would not be surprising if we soon see knockoffs under $100 given how commonplace battery management software is rapidly becoming.

There are mobile services that will replace your Macan battery for almost half that $885 dealership quote....

If I needed a battery replacement today I would just get a correctly sized AGM battery (available for under $200 from numerous stores including Autozone, Advanced Auto, Costco, Walmart, Sam's, BJ's) and either buy an MD808 or just have my indy code the new battery. He did it on my X5 for $50, and it appears the process for the Macan is similar if not more or less identical. And I would buy one of the tools that allows you to keep power to the memory in the car while the battery is disconnected.

I'll likely buy an MD808 or similar given that we now have 3 vehicles that need their batteries coded when being replaced.

What tool would you buy to maintain power during the battery swap?

Not sure. Need to look into this. I do recall there has been some discussion about this on the forum in the past, but I don't remember the specifics

@iconoclast the MD808 shows on the Autel web site as a currently available product. Not sure why Amazon would state there is a newer model. As far as maintaining voltage on the car while doing a battery change out I use my tender set at supply voltage when I disconnected my battery in the past.
