Americans say "LindE" But the Germans say "Linda" which is the proper German pronunciation..

For everyone who's concerned about pronouncing Porsche like a German and Macan like an Indonesian, how are you pronouncing Michelin and Trelleborg just now? That way madness lies, I tell you.

PS @ejvette, I posted the above comment then looked at another thread and noticed that you made the remark "its a world gone mad I tell you!" yesterday. Maybe we're right and madness is already here.

To confirm all of you guys' pronounciation problems, the word "Macan" came from the Indonesian language which directly translates to "tiger". I am Indonesian myself so I know how to pronounce macan properly. It's pronounced Ma-tchan or Ma-tjan (if you happen to be dutch, because that's how it was written in the older form of the Indonesian language)

you are absolutely correct. All Indonesians approve of this pronounciation. Again to everyone else, it does not matter how you pronounce it. For example I've heard a lot of different pronounciations for the brand name Hermes. English speakers pronounce it her-mays, I've heard some pronouncing it as Her-mayh, but the native French would pronounce it as ehhr-mess with a little hiss in the back. Ma-tchan/Ma-tjan is the perfect Indonesian way to pronounce macan, but of course it can be pronounced any way else. It's like the world Salmon. In English, it's pronounced as "Sah-mon" but in Indonesia you literally pronounce it as "Sal-mon". It's like how some people do not know that the word "doubt" should be pronounced with a silent b

Although it looks pretty cool and fitting to this car, I think "Macan" was a pretty lackluster name choice, from the brand that usually makes the coolest names. "Panamera" is the most perfect word-title given to a car. Not only cool as its origins are of a race track, but it exemplifies the car so well. The car literally looks like a "Panamera", it's a long name, it's a long car, exudes a mix of luxury and race, etc.

"Macan" although very aptly resembling our car in both definition and length/pointedness of the name, just doesn't sound as cool. Though it's a lot better than "Cayenne" imo.

Another issue is the pronunciation. The technical pronunciation in english is "Mah-Kahn", but if it's "Mah-Tchan" in its native tongue, that makes even that a bit unofficial. Therefore you have people butchering it with 'Merican-tongued "Ma-Can" or "Macon" and the like.

It's pronounced as Maachaan (ch as in you pronounce a chair). It's a Bahasa Indonesia word. The porsche dealer sales and service guys in Singapore all pronounce it this way.

You're going to have to give the car up. You're not allowed to own the car & mispronounce the make.

I came across something recently where someone said that you pronounce it as "porsch" before you have one & as "porsh-a" after you do.

Porsche Corporate Errors

Missed this very interesting thread before now.
I think I'll emulate @WHT TGR if asked, and identify mine as a White Tiger. If pressed I'll say Porsha Mah-Tchan, appropriately I reckon. :nerd:

Porsche's inability to pronounce a Bahasa word is no excuse for sloppiness on my part. I was puzzled when I first heard aluminium pronounced alooominm and have never adopted that. So too with Mazda, which some call a Maars-da. At first I thought it was a new brand. Then I realized some say Zeee instead of Zed.

I'll continue saying Volkswagan though, as Folks-Vargon sounds too pretentious I think. Buggered if I'll adopt Ooorstralia for Uhstraylya though.

I'm thinking about appending a red 'S' to the Turbo badge. If anyone queries that I'll simply explain that Porsche made a grave error by omitting it. If challenged I'll show them performance upgrade CF plate on the motor, or engine as some would have it - you know, under the clamshell bonnet. :laugh:

PS: May-Con is even worse than Maaarsda.
