Does anyone know what systems in the car use this temperature sensor? Is the whole climate control system using this as input? It should be looking at outdoor temperature versus cabin temperature versus desired cabin temperature in order to regulate fan speed, implement recirc. etc. How about IAT (intake air temperature) for the engine. If not used directly for IAT normally there is an ambient input required by the ECU.

If this is just a thermometer so the driver can see what the outdoor temperature is, that is one thing, but I suspect it is much more than that.

Mine appears reasonably accurate BUT it takes about 15 minutes to respond to changes - if i drive out of the garage at 22C and ambient is say 35C it will register the 35C after about 15 minutes!

My dealer replaced the temperature sensor which fixed the rather random outdoor temperature readings. I asked if there was a fix for the limited range of the garage door opener transmitter (literally 10 feet iff directly in front of the door). They did not fix it, but I was amused by the response from the tech: "it is functioning as designed".

I wish I could use that line with my clients.

That's a great question. I would think that the IAT would be a separate sensor. But I would be very curious to know if it is tied into the automatic climate control.

Hi all

Brand new 1 week old Macan S owner (April 19 build) and temp sensor today is stuck on 7.5 degrees Celsius. Car is also showing upon start up “Fault: Service necessary Driving permitted”. Can’t believe this is a known fault since 2015 !

Temperature gauge reading

I've had my new 2019 Macan-S for 10 days, and I notice that the temperature gauge reading is 5 - 10 degrees less than the actual outside temperature. Can this be adjusted? Is there a significant lag time for it to display the outside temperature?

Other than that, I'm loving the car.

Add me to the long list of those with this malady. It's stuck on 73F on a 96F day. As explained on another thread, it supposedly require at least 3 minutes of highway driving to read properly, yet there are those who indicate that it still malfunctions. Hopefully, ours will perform as intended when not in Stop-&-Go traffic.

Hi. Does anyone happen to have the part # for the OAT sensor? Is it 9A7-820-535, which costs about $35. Is this the part located in the airduct located on the passenger side under the cowl (near windshield)? Thanks in advance.

For the past twenty months, I have been the proud owner of a 2018 Base Macan and love everything about it, except for one thing: The exterior temperature reading never seems to match the exterior temperature on my smart phone. The discrepancy is not just a degree or two but as much as several degrees all the way up to twenty some degrees. In other words, the dashboard reading of the outside temp is basically useless. Porsche Cars of North America just advised me that they do not have a fix as yet for this problem. Although a 2018 model, my Macan wasn't first sold until March 2019. So, since this issue was not resolved by PCNA within the past three years, I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same problem. Thanks.

Yeah, i saw it often. Then I'd look down later after a while of driving around or something and it would be "corrected".

If you are stationary the temp will read higher due to radiant heat from the vehicle but it stabilises when driving

Is that what you are experiencing?

I haven't paid much attention whether there's a difference in parked vs. driving. I'll look out to see if this is it.

Yes, and the same thing happens on the 95B.2 models (2020). Kind of frustrating.

This is absolutely not a heat-soak issue, it's the firmware reporting a long-obsolete reading. I actually haven't seen it happen for a while now, however... maybe they fixed it with an over-the-air patch.

This may help to explain why the readings differ:
Thanks for this video. I’ve had the same issue as the original poster on both our Macans, but a few minutes after startup it always normalizes like a few others have indicated.

If I was to guess, I would think Porsche has embedded in their computer logic to have the reading showing to the driver as the last reading before vehicle was turned off to prevent erroneous high temperature readings. I could see this sensor getting to a high number if the vehicle was turned off after a long run in the summer; a very high temp in the engine compartment. Once the temperature reading stabilizes, it would revert to the real value.
