I decided with the advice of many stereo installers to remove the tire altogether and installed a bigger sub and amplifier. The area is too small for a quality sounding sub. Research the size of sub box requirements needed. Look on YouTube for Macan sound system upgrades to get ideas. Good luck

Yes.

I bought mine here. Sub is a JL Audio 10TW1-4 driven by 300 watts at 4 ohms. A GIANT leap from the Bose sub. Excellent quality thumping bass. I highly recommend.

i had looked into the ak audio enclosure as an option. i would not recommend using facebook to contact them. i did and never received a reply.

I never contacted them of FB. I just bought it right on the site. Quick turnaround and great solution for the Macan.

i had questions about the larger box which isn't pictured. i don't see how it would possibly fit. it says "not installing amp in front of box" and is 12" tall by 9" deep but there is a shelf there were many mount the amp that would prevent that from fitting.

IIRC a customer who posts in these forums sent the dimensions for the smaller box to ak audio and they came up with it from that spec. i don't know how they came up with the larger one.

their facebook page is clearly listed under the contact us, so not responding there was kinda meh.

i ended up pretty happy with an aftermarket driver in the factory enclosure so i let it go.

Also added JL Audio C2-075ct 3/4" silk dome tweeters to the front and rear door tweeter locations, along with Audison AP 4 midranges to the front doors and Audison Voce AV 3.0 midranges to the rear D Pillar. Removed the dash center channel.

Couldn't be happier. Loud clear wonderful sound. Light years ahead of the Bose system, that is for sure.

You’ll need to try to find a Burmester box, which has a 10” subwoofer. But, if I had to do this again, I do exactly what I did… build my own box. Or have someone build it for me.

i was curious to see if i could find one of these so i looked it up. i found a lot of hits of panemera burmester subs, which are 10", but this is the one i found for the macan. given the amount of space from the top of the box to the woofer, it looks to me like this is an 8" also.

I can confirm it is an 8" driver. Depending on the sub you're replacing it with, minor dremeling of the opening would be necessary. I'd also recommend additional deadening of the enclosure itself and some polyfill. I ended up going the 10" route also, 10TW3 similar box to Santirx which is a popular design that allows the spare to stay.

AK is "semi" local to me. I was going to go over to the shop for him to take measurements for the larger box with slightly more airspace if possible but was under the weather the day I planned to go. I'll update once I'm able to get by there. I want to put an 11" sub in that location.

Hi did you ever go to Ak for your sub box ? I’m having him build one for me , but I’m in Massachusetts, and was wondering if you Had shown him your car. I’m taking the spare out and using that space .. Any info would help , thank you Julie

I have a photo a few posts up. I ordered the standard one they have which slides into the same spot as the Bose sub. I did not use the area where the spare tire is.

And with a 10" good quality sub it's all I would want. With some songs feels like someone is punching the back of your seat. About 1,000 times improvement over the Bose which is really inadequate bordering on annoying.

The JL 10TW3 woofer ($449) has a recommended sealed enclosure volume of 0.5 cuft, which is a good match for the larger 0.53 CuFt AK box (16" wide x 12" tall x 9" deep), with and F3 output at 40Hz.

The JL 10TW1 woofer ($349) should be used with the smaller 0.35 CuFt AK box (16" wide x 12" tall x 4.9" deep), with a higher F3 output at 47 Hz.

So I just ordered the AK smaller box that you have pictured. My question here, does this box go all the way down into the battery compartment under hatch? What do you do with the interior folding hatch that reveals the battery?

You put it in the same spot where the Bose sub was. Then the "hatch" closes like normal. You can't see it unless you open the hatch. Hope that makes sense. In the pic below the hatch is partially open.

My Macan had the base system so there is actually a folding “door” where that Bose sub would be. It’s connected. To the entire cover. Need to figure out how to delete that without cutting it.

Just a heads up to anyone reading this. If you have a macan with a base stereo system, the AK sub will not work. There is a plastic trim that will make it not possible to fit unfortunately.
