For those ones that are on the fence of getting Connect ($830 Option) or Connect Plus ($1300 Option) because of CarPlay, Engadget just released a review of it.

I wonder if the PCM was upgraded to support wireless on the MY18 cars which might explain the price increase of the Connect options.

My cable of choice is this:

https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-...tning-Cable/dp/B010U3XA0I/ref=sr_1_12?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1495052486&sr=1-12

It's just long enough to stick out clear of the armrest. The phone sits on the cup holder or I can flip it back into the storage under the armrest. It's illegal in Ontario to even hold you phone unless you're parked or out of traffic so the extra short length is actually a benefit. It's also obviously very neat if the phone is plugged in.

When leaving the car I just pull on the phone and go. The cable seems pretty sturdy and is Apple approved. Actually have different lengths all over the place since they are cheap. There used to be a discount for Prime subscribers.

That was more of an ad than I intended.

anker powerline + braided red 1 foot cable looks great and performs great in my GTS. The size is great as it rests in the cupholder when not in use.

Bonjour Davo1805,

You do not omit to tick something about the glove box accessorie, you can read in this post some information (but i don't find where we can buy it now... May be on Amazon, but nothing on ebay with the link described in this post)

Bonjour ELP,
Thanks a lot for the link ;)
But sadly, it is written... "The seller has not specified a shipping method to France" :
To exclude Europe because it is to far, i can inderstand, but i see that Canada is also excluded !
The seller seens to want to sell only in the USA, the other countries are certainly too exotic for him...:D

#193 ·
Bonjour Fincher,

Yes, but it was an ironic message just because it is fun for a no US resident .
With the link given by the help of ELP, we can find many sellers on ebay from China which sell the same article and ship on all the planet , so no problem for the European Macan drivers.

#194 ·
Understood! I get the humor. :) My comment was not related to shipping but to the fact that it does not fit in all Macans due to some cellular booster (or similar) inside the center armrest. The US Macans do not have this so the tray fits perfectly.

There's a thread here on this very subject. Maybe that's the reason it ships to the US only?

CarPlay standard on 2017 Macan?

I bought a used 2017 Macan (base model) and took delivery yesterday. I had understood that all 2017+ now included Apple CarPlay capability (??).

I did search this forum and see references to PCM 3.1 and 4, but as a Macan newbie, I am not hip to the lingo or acronyms, Bottomline, is there a way to determine if my 2017 Macan AWD base model is CarPlay capable? If yes, great....it does not automatically come up when iPhone plugged in, but that could be due to the previous Owners' set up (?).

If my new 2017 does not have, is there a best recommendation to add it without voiding warranty?

Thanks so much for welecoming me to the community. - Mark

You need Porsche Connect for Apple Carplay, which costs around $1000. I got it and Carplay will come up automatically on my screen when I plug in my phone (although sometimes it takes a few minutes). I don't know if it can be retrofitted, I'd ask the dealership.

Please don’t quote me on this, but I want to say there is a retro fit for Apple CarPlay. I remember reading a thread a while ago in April about this because I love CarPlay in my GTS and I zipped over to my Audi dealer to see if they have a retro fit for my S5, but no luck. like someone mentioned check with your dealer to see what they can do to help you out. I am sure if you use the search feature on this site you will be able to find this thread. Good luck on your quest.

I suggest to read through this thread for more details: http://www.macanforum.com/forum/electronics/128778-apple-carplay-retrofitted-my17-s-too.html

The short answer is, yes, CarPlay can be added to a 2017+ car.

Unfortunately, there remains a lot of confusion about this from both owners and dealers. If you have Nav it seems to be a simple add, if you do not, then it is potentially more complex and therefore costly. Ask your dealer and if you don't get a good response, then call around to other dealers. It may help to show them the Suncoast upgrade kit: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU95BAPPLE.html

Good luck!

I have posted this last week about retrofitting CarPlay to my 2018 by the Porsche dealer. If you have 2017+ then it is possible. Here is a portion of my invoice.

For older models I found this NavTool Interface that is supposed to add Apple Car Play. Does anyone have experience with this? I'm too new to post the link but if you go to www navtool dot com under Porsche --> Macan it has the options for both 2014-15, and 16 - 17 models.

Added Apple CarPlay

2018 GTS with Nav - NO Voice Control, NO Connect, NO Connect+

Just had dealer install the Porsche CarPlay module - works great.

Initially dealer said VC was needed to get it all to work and I've seen posts on this forum that said same thing, At least with this 2018 adding VC was not needed nor was it something I wanted. If I ever need to use Siri there's a white button icon on the bottom left of the screen.

Voice Control is not needed to use CarPlay. Siri ends up being your VC, at least within the confines of what CarPlay can do.

It should be around $1000 for part/labor. I use mine regularly and IMO it is one of the best option.

Ah, that’s good to know that the hardware for the Car Play is only an activation key! I thought it was something physical that the dealer has to put in.

So here is my build code (PJMDLLN8) and will pull the trigger tonight at my local dealer. Btw, voice activation was $0, so I got that with the NAV module. Let me know what you think and also, where did you purchased your Car Play for $689?

#216 ·
I have read that folks have had issues ordering Voice Control - thought it was ordered but car delivered without it or thought it was part of Nav option and it really wasn't - search the forum for discussions regarding this. I'd just make sure option code QH1 is on the order.

Purchased part 95B-044-900-07 directly from my local Porsche dealer - ordered on a Wednesday, arrived at the parts counter from Atlanta the next day. Invoice $621.43 plus sales tax of $51.27 - total $672.70

It’s USB only for connection to CarPlay. I would keep BT on all the time so you have a connection if you do not use CarPlay all the time.

On a side note, I love my ventilated seats! So happy Porsche offers them. Can’t understand why *anybody* would choose the standard seats.

So I am trying the OP's approach to installing Apple Car Play. My car came with Navigation. The dealer is trying to force Voice on me. It is my understanding from the OP that he used Siri and did not install Voice. Did that approach subsequently work?

Yes. To call up Siri all you need to do is push the white round icon on the bottom left screen to activate Siri. VC makes it a tad more convenient right at your left finger tip.

Short answer is no. If you have SAT, you switch to SAT on car. I have MLB package on my iPhone. I can listen on CarPlay via MLB app and also on SAT radio. My MLB audio/video is free on T-Mobile so I have used both the app and SAT.

Waze works ok with CarPlay. Both Google Maps and Waze updated apps came out this week and I've been playing with both, I prefer Waze for the object and police warnings. I'm using it almost every drive to play with the differences. Trying to get used to talking to it for submitting warnings.
