I have been a BMW owner for over 30 years and have owned or leased just about every model they have had except x6 and x4.

I still have two of them, x3 and 528. I got rid of my SL 550 to get the Macan (Which I haven't received yet).

My brother is getting rid of his 5 series to also get a Macan.

As much as I enjoy the BMWs there is no comparison on any level. The Porsche is just plain better and more fun. The BMW interior hasn't changed in decades and is basic boring.

I will still have BMWs in the future but just not as many as I convert to more Porsches.

I was driving in a relatively upmarket but still highly populated area the other day, and it was unreal how many cars were BMW and Mercedes'. And all kinds of models, not just your generic 3 and C Series/Classes. There was an M6 with an M4 right behind it, more M6's, 650's, the first facelift CLS I've seen (yuck), a bunch of new S Classes, your Jane E Class, highly spec'd 3 Series', mundane equipped 5 Series', more Benzes, etc. There were more of them than Toyotas and Hondas. It was pretty interesting.

Being in a Porsche, just felt "cool", as recently I was used to being one of the other M-B's and BMW's. As BMW and Mercedes shake their more enthusiast centric approach to fulfill a transformation into total mass market volume, Porsche becomes the logical next step up for someone who wants something that feels a little more "special", imo.

Yes Sir. I would think most on this Forum would agree.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday driving home and stopping to pick something up. Every other car seems to be aBMW, MB or Audi. It's unreal. Same thing on the road when I go to work.

Not many Porsches but tons of other German cars. They are the norm now

Yeah, agreed. I mean, I always see M-B's and BMW's everywhere. But it just resonated this time, the amount, how new they were, how they were lined up, all kinds of models, etc. It's not even that the higher priced models are even "rare", they get leased and discounted massively for volume as well. And BMW/M-B just look so homogenous to each other, it's hard to tell the differences.

Just yesterday I saw a CLA (blech) with a lit up Star on the grille! Seriously? Is this what M-B has resorted to? It wasn't even straight on, the Star was clearly crooked when looking at it in my rearview mirror.

Being in a Porsche, to me, still "means something". It's an enthusiast and boutique brand next to other Germans (and most cars, period). It shows you just don't choose cars for the best lease on the most ubiquitous brand. Even though your general Cayenne driver is closer to your general X5 or ML driver, I'd assume, when you see another Porsche, there's usually some sort of camaraderie between the cars. You know that person specifically chose a Porsche, not just went to the cheapest lease with the blingiest badge on the hood or deck lid. If I'm gonna spend what I consider a lot of money, it's gotta be on a brand that's enthusiast centric first and foremost.

You're so right. I used to feel special when I bought my first BMW 318 in 1983 or 1984. No more, might as well be a Ford. Weird, when I say I am going into NYC I have no problem taking my BMWs but no way am I taking the Macan, it too special.

That is so true....both beauty and beast do have the 'presence and uniqueness' qualities that will definitely draw attention.

In this case since the Macan is the beauty.....
I think I've seen around maybe five or six Macan's in my area. My head still follows it as it passes by. This car really is something special.

One area where I'd say the BMW trumps the Porsche is the PCM/Nav system. The interface on the M3 I looked at the other day was elegant and gorgeous! Our Macan's is not so pretty, is quirky and pretty dumb about finding points of interest.

Funny. I live in a small town in CA and I have seen about 6 Macan's in town that I am pretty sure are all local as most have the town parking stickers . I kind of wish I didn't see them but what they heck; my fellow town members are allowed to enjoy too... i guess; as long as that number of town folk Macan's doesn't grow exponentially .

I also commute 52 miles each way to and from LA on the busy 405 Fwy and in 6 or 7 months I have seen a total of 3 Macan's. I like those numbers better :)

Yes, I know there will be more on the road later but for now; we can bask in the "exclusive glory" of being the first drivers of an awesome new Porsche model. If only I could get mine ... I'm still on the waiters club list.

Your patience will be rewarded. Everyone here can vouch for that. :D

Yeah but I've come to love that about Porsche. It allows me the excuse from paying them $3K for the waste Nav, use a high quality cloud Nav, and focus on the tangible car merits. :D

Honestly, I gotta say, other than the fluffy stuff like interface design, I prefer PCM/MFD to iDrive. Obviously not for Nav or VC as I didn't get those, but because it has SUCH EXTENSIVE actual performance and Car data. G's, steering angle, Max or Real Time, all kinds of temperature gauges, Turbo gauge, more intuitive steering wheel button controls with more modification abilities. True drivers car tech that BMW doesn't provide. That stuff is way more preferred to me than the iDrive media tech that is probably industry leading. It also takes a back seat to the car while other manufacturers seem to make their cars less engaging and "make up for it" by just providing a high tech infotainment. Basically like a Smartphone on steroids.

I would agree but then again I am just used to it after many years. It took BMW a long time to get it right. Many other car companies are still having issues with it and from time to time BMWs has issues also.

No car is perfect.

From the link you posted:

"I miss nothing. Check out my thread about how much disliked my Macan i had for 3 weeks.

I love my X4 100X more..

The Macan has more issues than I can name.. Dozens and Dozens of horrid porsche nonsense issues that can't be fixed."

It's a new model, hiccups will come about. The X4 is basically an X3 with a different shape.
My July build/August delivery has been virtually flawless - no issues to date. As for the X4's different shape......it certainly is different (except for its' striking similarity to the Pontiac Aztek).
