HAHA! I quoted on the other thread. I also had a good laugh reading the threads. I don't need to justify my purchase nor put down the X4. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the order backlog

Hilarious... I had my quota of laughs reading the thread... Buy X4 because Macan has so many problems LOL !!! Looks like somebody was trying real hard to justify his/her choice of X4 but could not even convince himself, hence the need to find support from other folks on X4 forum... :D

Thanks for posting...

This is a masterpiece picture I found from the thread. Sharing for others to Enjoy... ROTFLMAO...

Ummm... Guilty. The screen name Ender was already take on that forum :)

Lol. I noticed this trend too.

Notice how Macan owner's simply chuckle at said X4, say "get serious" then simply go about our obsessing about our minute details.

Now X4 vs GLA vs Aztek? That's an argument worth having.

I like BMWs. BMW has much better tech than Porsche. The overhead view cameras on the BMW are awesome. I like the iDrive and BMW's nav system is very good. The interior of BMWs feels roomier and more luxurious to me.

All of that, to me, is secondary to the driving experience. The Macan is simply so much better to drive. The power and handling and shifting and cockpit and exhaust note of the Macan really does make you feel you're in a sports car with a seat that's way too far off the ground. The BMW feels like a very good solid compact sports utility vehicle.

And for me the driving experience of the Macan was what's important. If someone is looking for an ultimate drive out of their machine then the X4 is simply no substitute for the Macan. ;) But to each his or her own.

Oh, and my personal opinion is that the Macan looks great and the X4 looks like a butt. :)

That Theatermax guy is obviously crumbling inside over his decision to switch. I see him around forums making it sound like going from a Macan to an X4 is like going from a Yugo to a Bugatti. Everything he says is clearly beyond inaccurate and immense hyperbole, like he desperately can't even convince himself. I think he even said that the X4 has a "WAY NICER INTERIOR THAT KICKS THAT POS PORSCHE BUTT YEAH!!!!". The 3 Series interior basis that the X4 uses is really a POS for what you'd expect. It's on another planet zip code from the Macan's interior.

I love my BMW 5, except for that like most other cars (except for the Macan) it's very cramped therefore uncomfortable for my height and it's lost a lot of sportiness, not very sharp, tight or engaging, night and day from the Macan in that respect. But along with some of the most beautiful designs in the market (6, 5, M3 except for the horrible interior) they also have made some of the most hideous (5 GT, X6, X4, 3 GT, maybe more).

LOL!!!! I hate the new red "LaFerrari" so I bought a pink Slug Bug.

Those guys are just trying to justify/find excuses and not assume they made a mistake because:
1) Could not afford a Macan with the options they got in the X4;
2) Were not patient enough to wait so long to order a Macan;
3) Never owned a BMW before so they are happy they got their first;
4) Etc....

I have been a loyal BMW customer for over 10 years and love their cars. I currently lease a 2014 X5 for my wife and could not be happier. However, when looking for my new car I never considered a X4. Both, X4 and X6 look very ugly in my opinion. I considered the Evoque (an expensive Ford Escape: No tks!!!!), the new Mercedes GLA (that car will die soon like the R-class) and when I test drove the Macan I knew it was the car I wanted. It looks classy, sporty and very luxurious if you know how to play with the options Porsche offers you. And it drives amazingly well.

Just built for fun a X4 with "similar" options of my Macan and it came $5k cheaper. However, I cannot get 20" wheels and parking assistant together , it still comes with a pre-historic instrument cluster, no panoramic roof, no ventilated seats, no entry drive, 40-hp less than my Macan, etc...... NO TKS!!!!!

The Selection Process

When I drive in traffic I often observe other cars and think "someone must have loved that thing so much that they purchased it new. The night before they had difficulty sleeping in anticipation of taking delivery of that thing".

Someone had to purchase new every Dodge, Aztec, Yugo, Rambler, Edsel, Pinto, etc. They had to take it home and share with friends and relatives the joy of the new car experience and show off their recent purchase. They took great care while diving during the break-in period, and waxed the car the first time. The car then was then neglected for the rest of its useful life.

I prefer the Macan over the X4 as well as the M3 for that matter. I recently rented a almost new X5 in Ireland for a week. Frankly, I would prefer a Tahoe over the X5. Obviously, a lot of people disagree.

At the end of the day, car selection is personal and subjective.

Man, I used to love the Pinto!

LOL someone in that thread said: "For me, the Macan has tasteful touches of Porsche styling while the X4 looks like a lifted econobox".

WTF is this horrendous "lifted econobox" trend that BMW and Mercedes are doing? X4 and GLA (and who knows what else to come). Maybe the most tasteless and awkward automotive styling exercise I've witnessed yet.

Love the Macan or don't, but the design architecture is quite revolutionary, it's so many things in one, just like those two mentioned wish to be. But instead of looking like a compromised marketing ruse to try and pull on consumers, nails it and effortlessly succeeds in that simple and fundamental (no frills which the GLA and X4 have in spades to try and cover up their inherent architectural shortcomings) that only Porsche can pull off so well.

Really, they're in totally different classes and intended (ENGINEERED) for different audiences.

My 5er also extremely solid after 22k miles. My previous MB's (4) all became rattle traps after about 7 to 8k miles so I really am pleased with the 5. It's just not proportioned right for my proportions, nor is it immersive, sporty or dynamic enough for me right now. The Macan is the first car I've driven since that really gives me a feeling of genuinely blowing my 5er away in all driving and comfort respects, especially personalized to my liking, which is a feat in itself.

Not an X4, but my wife's 2005 X3 (now my hand-me-down), has been tremendously reliable. Can't say enough good things about it. 9 years old with 85k miles and all we've replaced is brakes and a washer squirter, both done by me. Oh, and it seems to eat batteries; about every 3 years. The thing drives great, just like when we bought it. The only thing that has degraded somewhat is the suspension. Seemed to get a little rough after about 40k. It's like a point-n-drive big go-kart. I checked the specs and am looking at a 50% HP boost with my Macan, plus the added handling performance.

So in short, my wife loved it and wanted another. She drove the new X3 and balked over the cockpit and braking and chose the Q5. I fear she's really going to love my Macan!

Guys this is still the best post ive read on the x4 forum, i hope the poster on that forum is really a very hot chick!

i havent even seen lambos (probably one of the most ostentatious cars) get this treatment ....*honks*

from the x4 forum--Just had mine a few days, men the looks I get, the honks and occasional pic snappers it's now becoming ridiculous especially when my LED and Angel eyes are on. Could also contribute this to the Melbourne Red Xline with Beige interior which is absolutely stunning in person!

Macan just doesn't have that presence and uniqueness!

#25 ·
LOL. As if Angel Eyes aren't on almost every car nowadays, look great, but common. Porsche's 4 points, that's actually exclusive.

As for interior. NO WAY. The Macan annihilates any BMW interior under the 5 Series, and IMO even is nicer than most above the 5 Series. The fit/finish, materials and refinement is impeccable to me, above general BMW and above my 5 which has a very good interior. The 5+ cars mostly have beautiful interiors but under the 5, they've simply gone crap. The 3 and all based around it have very downmarket and clearly cost cut interiors for BMW.

BMW tech is amongst the best. Porsche isn't about tech unless it's engineering related and performance tech (which they're second to none). Porsche is about the drive, design, mechanics, and tech that can enhance all of those things. thus it's more emotionally driven. I'll miss the HUD and kick open trunk (which doesn't work great), but I'm not that focused on car tech.

Is it true that you can't have LED taillights on the X4? Talk about simple and fundamental compromise on tech and design.

No one has said X4 drives better than Macan on the flip side the X4 handles pretty good and all reviews vs Macan attest to it. Everyone will have a preference and styling is very personal thing and I love my X4 and will still be on this forum until Porsche produce a better Macan especially tech for it's the logical progression from BMW/Audi/Merc as all have mentioned. Not everyone is willing to make that compromise on Tech.
The X4 vs Macan has been beaten down to pulp in another thread here --->> http://www.macanforum.com/forum/porsche-macan-versus-competition/22073-macan-v-x4.html

It's like Apple vs Samsung people have different tastes, Both vehicles have their Cons and compromises, but each to his own, its your money anyways!

PAG does not care about electronics technology. If that is your benchmark, then you are buying the wrong car. Be thankful you got cup holders as the are recent development - seriously in the last 10 years.

You can get WOW Porsche interiors in the Macan.
No you can't and likely never will if it follows the Cayenne tradition. There is no LTS nor Z options. No deviatated stitching, etc. Most likely there never will be. These cars are meant to be the big sellers, the cars that sell 50 - 80K units/year. If you want to see some really good interiors, read some of Z356's sticky threads on RL. Some amazing stuff there.

Sorry, not to be a downer but its highly doubtful the Macan (or Cayenne) will ever get the amazing interiors.

My DD is a BMW and I agree the HUD is pretty awesome; not sure why Porsche doesn't offer it yet.
Take a look at the configurator. Look at how many options are missing from time to time, look at the colors of the car versus reality. And you think they are going to make a HUD? Too funny

That's fluffy stuff for the masses. They are more concerned with PTV+ and serious driving stuff, not fluffy stuff. Seriously.

I like BMW too but they have a HUGE line up of cars and some of them are lame. The X4 may be a good performer but it is HEINOUSLY fugly. It looks like a German Pontiac Aztek and I will laugh at every one I see going down the road.

Other ugly BMWs, the 1 series, X3 and GT.

Porsche is not without ugly cars either. I find the Panamera repellent in every way and the Cayenne is pretty **** ugly too but in previous years it was bar none the ugliest SUV on the road with its used bar of soap styling and 400 front air intakes.

True, new Cayenne Still ugly. Like I said in the previous thread, ugly is the new beautiful:laugh:

#30 ·
The first Cayenne was hideous. The second is bland in basic spec BUT in GTS or Turbo S trim I think is gorgeous with the full body paint, gloss black window trim and lowered suspension. Which is why I anticipate the Macan with the same treatment (lower, SportDesign package with even more aggressive front, gloss black window trim, painted lower trim with color coded spoiler and diffuser just like Cayenne GTS/Turbo S) will be a whole different beast from the standard Macan and look stunning.

The Macan is capable of being more "head turning" than any SUV out there, and probably still will be standard spec vs standard spec, but just like with everything Porsche, you have to pay extra to truly get that.

I don't know how anyone can justify the ugliness of a X4. Last time i saw one in person, the front looked rather ok, but the back just looks hideous and poorly designed.

Honestly the first time i saw it in the press photos i went "are you f'ing kidding me?"

I feel bad for those who bought it and are trying so hard to justify their purchase. Seriously, get a x3 or something.

I son't want to get killed on this thread, but I really love my '08 335. I put 102k miles relatively problem free, and I've decided to hang on to it. No rattles, still get comments on the looks.

I'm looking forward to being in the P-car camp, but I'm not gonna disown BMW.

#38 ·
I loved my 09 335i as well, and always wanted to get back into another BMW since i moved to the states. I tried the latest 3 series as well as the 4 and 4 gran coupe, but just couldn't stand the cheap feeling you get when you're in the cabin.

The interior material have been downgraded significantly since the 09 model i drove for 3 years. The vault gate feeling you get when opening and closing the door is no longer there either, instead it felt not much different than the door from a honda.

The design of the 4 gran coupe was also significantly compromised just to fill in a niche market gap, just like the x4. It has the exact same body as a normal 4 series, but with 4 doors, like a 3 series... WHAT?! The back doors are extremely awkward and small. Instead of designing a brand new chasis for a gran coupe, they took the easy way out and just did whatever costed the least amount of money.

I heard for the upcoming models, they are planning to make the 3 and 5 series share the same chassis to further save cost.

I don't diss companies for no reason, but the minute i test drove the macan after walking away from the bmw dealership unsatisfied, i was blown away. Everything from interior to the solidness of the car was in an entire different class compared to the 3/4 series.

I would still consider an M, but i just wished their quality and feeling across the lines was still on par with the older BMWs i used to love.

You can all say what you want but i miss my bmw HUD....
My DD is a BMW and I agree the HUD is pretty awesome; not sure why Porsche doesn't offer it yet. However, this is probably the last BMW I will ever buy due to reliability issues. This current one is my tenth one and I am averaging one trip to the dealer per month. Would have pick the new X5 over the Macan if they are more reliable.

I son't want to get killed on this thread, but I really love my '08 335...
Had an 08 335i as well and is probably my second favorite BMW after the E36 M3.

#42 ·
I had an E36 M3, and loved it. The 540i Sport 6 speed however, was abysmal (only kept it 9 months) and signaled the end of my BMW ownership (Bangle design reinforced that decision)

#44 ·
The next Cayenne will be significantly better looking but IMO its still too big to be sexy. It'll just look like it has balls for the first time. I like my cars with balls and my girls without.
