Trim:
S
Year:
2015-16
This is my latest experiment…. This one will be uninstalled and returned as I got another one that seems to have better integration and much cleaner look with better trim details…. I was able to secure digital quality audio end to end and the sound is as good as PCM3.1 digital. No loss of audio quality…

Trims are not all the way in, as I’m going to be swapping all this next week, but I wrapped one of them in brushed aluminum to match the rest of my trims which were already wrapped.

Overall impressions are good. I lost intersection light (which I was expecting and not a big deal), and map/audio screens in MFD which I just unselected and now they don’t even show up (I never used that). Other than that, good integration.

Steering wheel controls worked with android radio, but only volume, mute and “call hang up” works for CarPlay, which is the exact same behavior of OEM CarPlay in my 718.

I’m pleasantly surprised at how good this looks in person.

Installation and details video coming soon in my channel (https://youtube.com/@porscheDIY?sub_confirmation=1), after I receive the other unit.

If you have seen my videos on PCM3.1 CarPlay upgrade, you know that I started with Joye CP module, then moved to Isudar, then to Mr12Volt. Mr12Volt audio quality and connection reliability were the best, but fall short with video quality. This is yet the latest adventure with my head unit.

I don’t think that fading lost is a function of the box. I’m connected directly from Toslink output to my aftermarket amplifier and still fade is lost. It doesn’t matter to me though. At least in my case, I have that capability at amplifier level.
Right . We don’t know. If it brings back fading , and sounds as good, I will switch :)
The Toslink connection is most likely a stereo PCM 2.0 signal (PCM in audio terminology, not Porsche Communication Management ) and therefore will still not support the fader. The only way this might support fading is if the audio were re-encoded to a Dolby Digital 4.0 or 5.1 signal, which seems extremely unlikely to me. Integrated native MOST would be the potential realistic solution to this, but very few of these devices have integrated MOST since they're reusing the mainboards across many different models.

Is anyone having issues with phone call mic audio quality? I am getting complaints from different people that it is hard to hear me while I am on a phone call. Like I am covering up the microphone or I am underwater. I have tried changing the front/back mic option in the settings. The person mentioned that there was no difference in quality after changing the setting.

So I finally received the package with the unit, and some other packages. Initial observations:
  • The MOST adapter with TOSLINK port is NOT plug-and-play for this unit. That's because the non-TOSLINK box uses a 8-cable socket for the 12V, Ground, etc, while the TOSLINK box uses instead a 6-cable socket. As our headunit comes pre-wired for the non-TOSLINK box, it uses the 8-cable socket plugs. This, however, should be easy to fix by re-routing the cables to the plug that comes with the TOSLINK box. So minor modification required.
  • The airflow dials in the headunit, unfortunately, do NOT seem to accept the LED backlit plates from the original Porsche vents, even though the wheels seem to be manufactured with two materials (white plastic and black rubber), which hints towards supporting backlit. The design of the wheel attachments are different in the DaiNav unit, being therefore impossible to insert the backlit plates.
  • The two knobs in the unit feel a bit flimsy. They seem to have obvious play when moving them left-right. And the clicking feels different between one another: on the right one, the click has short travel, while the right one has at least double the travel. Do you guys experience the same thing?
Otherwise, design-wise it looks gorgeous and can't want to install it!

Sample Audio with the default head unit mic.

Front Mic:
Rear Mic:

I was in the garage when I did this and just let it go to voicemail.

Anyone find a good manual for this head unit? I was trying to figure out how to map the keys on the steering wheel, but "long press" as show on the screen didn't seem to work for me.

Anyone have trouble with the USB connection in the center console? Mine didn't seem to work, but the 2nd USB interface which I currently have dangling in the passenger footwell worked fine for me to copy some files over.

Also, as an FYI, I've notified Dainav about 3 issues I encountered:
  1. Inability to customize home screen buttons
  2. Remapping of steering wheel buttons not working
  3. Setting temp to Fahrenheit vs Celsius not showing correctly in header
I've sent them screenshots and some videos.. not sure if they'll fix, but if they do hopefully a software update will be available!

I have not tested the arm console USB, as I will never use it . Yes , other USB tested and fine.

Glad you repotted the issues. I have also reported the Diamond “joker” button steering wheel needs to be released ……as it switches sources currently. All other wheel functions are good.

New question... has anyone figured out the right settings to show the forward parking sensor info? I can only seem to see it when I'm in reverse, but thought I was able to see it before I got the reverse camera hooked up. I can't seem to find that screen again though or the setting that I changed to lose it :(
