This is my latest experiment…. This one will be uninstalled and returned as I got another one that seems to have better integration and much cleaner look with better trim details…. I was able to secure digital quality audio end to end and the sound is as good as PCM3.1 digital. No loss of audio quality…

Trims are not all the way in, as I’m going to be swapping all this next week, but I wrapped one of them in brushed aluminum to match the rest of my trims which were already wrapped.

Overall impressions are good. I lost intersection light (which I was expecting and not a big deal), and map/audio screens in MFD which I just unselected and now they don’t even show up (I never used that). Other than that, good integration.

Steering wheel controls worked with android radio, but only volume, mute and “call hang up” works for CarPlay, which is the exact same behavior of OEM CarPlay in my 718.

I’m pleasantly surprised at how good this looks in person.

Installation and details video coming soon in my channel (https://youtube.com/@porscheDIY?sub_confirmation=1), after I receive the other unit.

If you have seen my videos on PCM3.1 CarPlay upgrade, you know that I started with Joye CP module, then moved to Isudar, then to Mr12Volt. Mr12Volt audio quality and connection reliability were the best, but fall short with video quality. This is yet the latest adventure with my head unit.

Hi guys, I have good news. I decided to brute-force my way into finding the MOST-TOSLINK box in Aliexpress, by simply spamming all the sellers I saw selling "normal" MOST boxes, and showing them the photos posted by @Santirx for a better reference. My reasoning was that one of those guys should've heard or known about the existence of this box.

Today in the morning, my Aliexpress inbox was filled with replies, and from one of them, I got these photos asking me whether THIS was the box:

As you can see, the TOSLINK port is there.

This is the listing that he gave me to buy the box, which unfortunately does NOT show any TOSLINK in the photos. But I am sure this was simply some generic listing, and he will send me the box that we discussed:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000469538257.html

I asked him to update the listing, to show clearly the TOSLINK port, as this is what people are looking for, and he told me he will update the title and the photos.

I hope this finding helps you guys a bit!

EDIT: it seems that the listing is now amended. The title shows the word TOSLINK, and the photos show the photo from @Santirx that I used when asking around, along with the seller photos. Now it's all much clearer.

By the way, in case any of you is considering upgrading the old style AC side vents to match the new style center vents, I found this vendor in AliExpress selling them for a reasonable price:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003755296553.html

Old and new style vents look as though they are interchangeable with one another, so I'll probably end up ordering a set.

Yes, I’ve seen these and they are actually in my Ali Express a checkout cart for months now. Note that there are a few quirks (which for now is stopping me from getting these).

1. The color of the knobs that move vent up/down/side is black, while the unit is chrome. You will need to add new black knobs and change the ones in the unit. They are available. But you’ll have to mess up with the unit’s vent. Alternatively, I think that these vent knobs could be changed to chrome, but I haven’t found those knobs in chrome.

2. The dials that open/close vents are not illuminated by LED… if you have that feature (I have it), I’ll lose that. Wondering if there is a way to transfer old vent dials to these new vents.

I fear that's the case, yes. Unfortunately, that also seems to be how the OEM vents are designed. The metal bit from our headunits is a bit of "artistic freedom" from the guys at DaiNav.

Personally, I like the metal looks. If there was some kind of "sleeve" that could be clicked on top of the black finger pieces, I'd definitely go for that.

Alright, after some investigation across the interwebs, I found this. I think it could do the trick for having all knobs in chrome:

Here a version from AliExpress:

Down to trim ……I'll be loosing that black cable :)

Just received and installed the dotless unit, I don't have the Bose system just factory audio so I had to use the amp_cnt wire. However none of the rear woofers including the speakers behind the rear seats are not working, but the tweeters on the rear door do work. All of the front speakers work perfectly fine however. Also when the unit turns on, there is a very light static noise coming out from the speakers as well. Any help would be appreciated!

I finally got some time to install mine over the weekend. Overall the unit is great quality and I am very pleased! To make the install easier I was able to push all the in wires (with provided quadlock extension cable) behind the new heating vents before installing them. I feel like made the job easier.

One thing to note about the mic. Initially I made a test phone call and forgot to plug in the provided mic. However the person still heard me with good quality.... After I spliced into the factory mic (from Santirx mr12volt mod) and placed another phone call. The quality was worse with the factory mic 🤷‍♂️. Then I tried plugging in the provided mic and the quality was the same as it unplugged. I decided to leave the provided mic unplugged.

One issue I am having is my reverse video feed does not work. The car detects that is was put in reverse and the parking sensors detect. But there is no camera feed. Does anyone know if there is a setting? I have verified that the correct yellow RCA is plugged in.

No need for the SANTIRX Mic Mod on this unit. And no need to connect external mic. It works well out of the box.

So I did something like this on a BMW and the experience wasn’t 100% seamless.
How long does it take these to come on when I cold start the car?
I get that I cannot program the joker button to skip music, but can I program it to its normal stuff?
Will the home button take me back to the Porsche screen (will any button)

I am currently using an iCarlink 4.0 and it works pretty good, but also not perfect. The bigger screen here is a plus.

I don’t think that fading lost is a function of the box. I’m connected directly from Toslink output to my aftermarket amplifier and still fade is lost. It doesn’t matter to me though. At least in my case, I have that capability at amplifier level.

I'm not too concerned about fading if I lose that with the RCA..I'll look at grabbing the TOS/MOST box.. I'm a bit of a nerd and technically speaking keeping the signal digital should result in better sound quality... whether or not my old ears can distinguish is maybe the bigger question since I'm still using stock amp/speakers :D ... but it just sounds like the "right" thing to do rather than starting with digital -> analog -> digital again :p

I currently have another aftermarket Android unit installed in the Macan with a native MOST output, which I am gonna replace with the new 12.3 inch unit in this thread. Together with the unit, I have ordered one of these MOST boxes, as like you, I want to keep a full digital signal path.

Once both arrive, I will compare the performance of the MOST box with the new unit, against my current unit and let you know. Both the new unit and the MOST box have already departed China and should arrive to Switzerland in a week or two.

Finally got my unit in! But… I have no audio and can’t figure out where the “factory setting” that was mentioned earlier to get my reverse camera working either. There’s 3 factory plugs that I can’t seem to figure out where they go or if they’re left unused (blue and the 2 mustard colored plugs). Gonna step away for a bit before I break something and hopefully someone can chime in.
