This is my latest experiment…. This one will be uninstalled and returned as I got another one that seems to have better integration and much cleaner look with better trim details…. I was able to secure digital quality audio end to end and the sound is as good as PCM3.1 digital. No loss of audio quality…

Trims are not all the way in, as I’m going to be swapping all this next week, but I wrapped one of them in brushed aluminum to match the rest of my trims which were already wrapped.

Overall impressions are good. I lost intersection light (which I was expecting and not a big deal), and map/audio screens in MFD which I just unselected and now they don’t even show up (I never used that). Other than that, good integration.

Steering wheel controls worked with android radio, but only volume, mute and “call hang up” works for CarPlay, which is the exact same behavior of OEM CarPlay in my 718.

I’m pleasantly surprised at how good this looks in person.

Installation and details video coming soon in my channel (https://youtube.com/@porscheDIY?sub_confirmation=1), after I receive the other unit.

If you have seen my videos on PCM3.1 CarPlay upgrade, you know that I started with Joye CP module, then moved to Isudar, then to Mr12Volt. Mr12Volt audio quality and connection reliability were the best, but fall short with video quality. This is yet the latest adventure with my head unit.

There is someone that just wrote a comment in my YouTube channel stating that they already received and installed a “dot-less” version.

He says he has a humming. I bet is the crappy converter box they provided. I recommended him to get the converter I got from Amazon.

That seems to be a rebranded Isudar module. There are about 2 or 3 main manufacturers out there and a bunch of rebranded sellers. I had Isudar in my PCM3.1 as well, and decided to ditch it for Mr12Volt as it has better audio quality than Isudar.

But given I wanted a bigger screen, I moved to this Android unit.

BTW… all these retrofit units are also based on Android software.

There are a few threads on Isudar here and you can discuss your issues or concerns on those threads.

Mine came in yesterday! Everything looks great. I'm going to start install tomorrow. However I have to wait till Monday for the upgraded fiber module to come in. 😔
Looks clean. Nice!

Good thing that they took our recommendation seriously.

Looks good ! My car is apart...and I have the MOPC-1 on hand.
@pixel1987 Can you please post a picture of the accessory antenna's that came with? I need to position at least the CELL antenna, thinking in the Center speaker recess.
Did you order the FAKRA GPS adaptor cable ??? You will need that if you plan to use the OEM GPS.

Good luck

The new unit looks simply gorgeous! I was in touch with DaiNav to check if they could provide a MOST converter with TOSLINK input, like the one from @Santirx, but alas they can't. And that very box seems to be rarer than unicorn blood... so I gave him as feedback that the unit should have a MOST output. A lot of Aliexpress units have that. And he said that he would pass this over to the engineer.

One potential problem with integrated MOST output here is that PCM 3.1 and 4.0 use different MOST protocols, which would limit flexibility slightly from the manufacturer side. Of course if the protocol could be changed in software, that would be a non-issue. That said, I think these are mostly using generic main boards, which is why we need the external MOST converter and CANBUS boxes.

That's a good point, and I was completely unaware of it. My proposal came from the experience I have with my current unit, which I purchased back in March:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002466045563.html

This one comes with an integrated MOST port, which makes integration so much smoother and simplifies the cable management to a great degree.

I am not sure how does the unit above manage the selection of the appropriate MOST protocol, or even if it even supports correctly both protocols. For cars based on PCM 3.1, it certainly works as it should.

In either case, I reckon that the same problem would apply to external CANBUS boxes: if these boxes are able to encode the analog signal and choose dynamically the correct protocol, it should also be possible to do the same with a MOST board integrated in the headunit. That's just me guessing, though...

So in the end I couldn't resist and placed an order for a unit.

I've also asked the seller to send the trim part in piano black for an additional $30. I would've probably been able to do it cheaper myself, but since I've never done anything with vinyl wrapping before, I rather ask to have it done.

As a bonus, I've also ordered a pair of LED headlights :) I've read good reviews from 911 users, so we'll see if they work well for our Macan too.

DaiNav as well. I had a very kind lady helping me with the order. I was very surprised to receive very good customer service from AliExpress. I think I need to readjust my bias.

Oh, there were no "options" per se. I just told them that my car interior had piano black trims, and whether they could deliver their trim part also in piano black. The lady checked with the factory, and confirmed that for an additional 30 USD, they could deliver it in piano black. So I took the deal.

I reckon if your car has some other finish and you ask, maybe they are able to oblige.

I'm jealous about you, looking forward to the before/after photos :)
