Check the 12.3” Android radio installation video on my 2015 Porsche Macan S here, and subscribe to the channel for the full story on this…

Installing another 12.3" Android Radio unit in my 2015 Porsche Macan...

thanks for the video. covering up that silly sticker with a wrap doesn't look horrible. this unit does look more appealing visually and the vent ducts seems much improved. that bounce back knob seems really dumb though, ugh. what is it with these terrible design decisions?

installation looks like it was quite challenging to route all those wires around the ducts.

it is quite disappointing given the cost of these units that it came with a subpar MOST converter. so the real cost is now $1120 instead of $990.

i was excited to maybe buy one of these but i'm not so hot on that idea anymore.

A few updates... Thanks to @Don16, who had been asking questions to vendor as well…. This is hot off the press…

(1) The vendor confirms that the manufacturer built 1500 units with the infamous red dot, but going forward, they will manufacture without the dot.

(2) Since I got the unit, they have upgraded it to add a TOSLINK Optical output as well as a Digital Coaxial output.

Eventhough the unit audio is great (digital quality) with the new box, I have initiated a return (within my return window) as I want to get a unit with digital output and without the red dot. Not sure when that’s going to be, but willing to wait…

Thanks @Don16 for following up on this…

1500 unit may take awhile to sell, unless they sell it at a heavily discounted price. I don’t see majority of buyers jumping in to purchase these unit beside Macan forum members.

I could overlook the right knob, but will wait for the unit without the red dot. I presume the diamond button on the steering wheel is still a no go. Plus my trim is chocolate / luxor beige with wood lol. This trim is black.

But to tell you something guys, if enough of us signed a digital petition to Porsche, they'd do an OEM unit like they did for other older models. Check this out:

Can I get Apple CarPlay in a classic Porsche? Apple CarPlay isn’t just limited to current models – more and more classic Porsche cars now have the ability to access Apple CarPlay. Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) and Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM Plus) are official infotainment systems that allow you to get Apple CarPlay in specific earlier Porsche cars. These include almost all classic cars, every 911 generation (up to type 997.1), Boxster and Cayman vehicles until 2008 (up to type 987) and the first-generation Cayenne (models up until 2008). Alongside CarPlay, PCCM and PCCM Plus also have USB connectivity, digital radio, and Bluetooth functions. PCCM Plus systems are also Android Auto-ready.

If Porsche do this, most likely it will be a PCM3.1-like unit with the 4:3 screen ratio. But, only time will tell.

So going back to Mr12Volt for now?

Not sure yet, as the vendor hasn't contacted me. I'm going to try to work out a swap. If that doesn't work, then, I'll return this and buy a new one when they become available without the red dot and with the digital audio output (Toslink). If that's the case, then, I'll temporarily return to Mr12Volt until I get a new one.

that is good news on the dot.

as far as the upgrade to add digital out, that doesn't really help those of us with the factory bose system, unless they have updated the MOST converter as well? i'm assuming the digital outputs are directly on the unit. i'm looking at this from the perspective of added costs on top of the unit's cost in having to buy a better converter.

They’ll need to provide appropriate digital to digital converter. That’s a significant assumption on this, to make your point valid.

Hey, Santirx... a personal note to you. Thank you for all this content and the work you have done, it's a lot of valuable information. Plus, you always politely reply to everyone and not many folks do it to the high degree that you do. Just wanted you to know that I truly appreciate your efforts 👍
Thanks man! I do really appreciate and value this community. I had been a member since 2014, so I can tell you I have seen a lot of people come and go, some that I miss talking with very much, but all very good people. Since I enjoy it so much, I like to give back as much as possible. Great group here…

So, I decided to try a return of my unit because I wanted the digital Toslink optical output. The story is a bit long… so, bear with me…

I initiated a return within my 15-day return period to DaiNav.

The vendor contacted me and he was going ballistic… asking me why I had initiated a dispute. To which I told him that I didn’t. I just initiated a return within my 15-day grace period…

The guy was all over… like accusing me of being a professional returner…😂…. First time I hear this….

I have written proof about he telling me that I could return the unit if it wasn’t satisfactory, when I told him that not having the optical output was a deal breaker before they shipped. And that on those grounds I would accept shipment… I forwarded that to him while we were discussing the return, which he wasn’t willing to accept.

In any case, after a lot of back and forth, I asked him if he could send me the electronic board with the optical output, and I would install it.

After an hour or so, he came back stating that he could send me the optical board for me to install, only if I drop the dispute and send him $1 for logistics…

So, we ended up in an amicable place again…😂.

They are going to send me this…

To install in location…. I’ll have to open the unit.

Honestly, I don’t think I’ll be using this optical output, as the converter box I got from Amazon is so good. Quality of audio had been phenomenal so far.

I also told the DaiNav guy that I had to buy a new converter box in order to improve audio. He asked me for a photo, which I forwarded. Hopefully he incorporate this box/design into future units.

In order for unit optical output (Toslink) to work, they will need to provide a box like the one in the photos below:

Interesting update. Sure sounds like a lot of hassle.

Do you have a link to that toslink to MOST adapter?

I can only find the version that does analog RCA to MOST.

Oddly, it seemingly has the same part number.
