I've had this "issue" on my car since I got it. I say "_" because it appears it's normal, as I drove a 2016 that also had it (albeit maybe a bit more muted than my car).

Firstly, the sound I speak of is not a turbo whistle. In fact it usually comes on before the turbo's are spooling (according to the MFD boost gauge). It sounds a lot like a brake squeak (which of course it isn't), but comes on as you press the gas, right before the turbos spool (and gradually decreases as the RPM's get up and turbos spool). I.e, you'll really hear it upon traveling at a low sluggish speed as you hit the gas harder.

It's no big deal really, but a slight annoyance.

When I had a tech look at it (when I had one of the TSB's fixed), they confirmed after driving another one, that it was normal. He said it may be a pre-spool of the turbos, i.e like as they start to engage, but not quite pushing PSI yet.

Anyone notice this? If not, try reenacting the scenario above, in a quiet area with your windows down to see if so.
Yes, I have noticed it on my 2015 Porsche Macan, that's why I'm on this forum trying to find a straight answer to what the noise is. I'm not finding one, just a bunch of guesses, justifications, excuses, denials and side anecdotes but no straight answer. How can a Porsche mechanic not know the origin of this sound? Very disconcerting.

Mine was an Oil Separator. Search the forums or look for my posts (don’t have time to search right now). I posted a YouTube link with the sound mine was making. Good luck.

Well, if you post the youtube link, maybe I can see what you are talking about.
Post 41 in the following thread is his earlier post with the link to his video.....

Before I bought my Macan S (2017 mileage abt 24000km) I tested a similar 2017 Macan S. Gradual acceleration from 1st to 7th gear was smooth the tacho reads about 1000 to 1250 rpms. However firm flooring of the gas pedal will have a kick down to 6th or 5th gear by the PDK and that's when I hear a low frequency "groaning" or " whor" sound . The sound is repeatable in both cars. I should have tested a 2.0 Macan to see if it occurs. So I also tested a Audi SQ5 .THe later was super smooth and none of the roughness of the Macan. My mechanic says both are different engines. The sound is from the turbo they say full stop to more query. :(

- Two distinct sounds. See video.
  • One is a whistle like sound present on idle (when car is up to temperature) and disappears when throttle is applied
  • The other is a hissing sound/leak I discovered when chasing down the whistle.
  • I have not been able to find the source of the whistle. I got the car in the air and couldn't track it down, but it is definitely coming from the engine bay.
  • Will someone please help me on tracking this sound down.
  • Is the hissing sound normal, from what I have been able to ascertain its a "check valve or AOS", I'm not sure if the hissing is normal though.

Remove them and pop the top to check the diaphragm. Easy enough to do and you can reassemble with no issues.
