What makes the Macan interior look 'cheap'?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently speccing my Macan S in Australia.

What are some standard features in the interior that make the Macan feel cheap? I personally don't like the plastic that wraps around the bottom of the front seats (where the buttons are). Thoughts? I know these can be made leather but this is $3900!!!!!

Any other parts worth upgrading to get rid of any cheap feeling?

Covering the stalks in leather for sure would stop people criticising them for being cheaply made and having to much flex.
Go for it!

Shame on you, Porsche!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. When you pay for full leather two-tone interior ($3880 option for S and $2110 option for Turbo) you expect to get full leather seats, but no, you don't. You get cheap black fabric on the inside side bolster next to the center console. It certainly feels very cheap. Shame on you, Porsche!

Inner bolster, as in "the part your body touches?"

Both my wife and I are quite pleased with the Red/Black full leather interior, especially the deviated stitching, however, Porsche overlooked the stitching for the leather steering wheel which would've really been a nice touch.

I also think of you get these seat covers it gives the Macan that "I live in a double wide" feel

I think the dumb door that hides the useless cd slot could've been storage. Touchscreen at least to me is so yesterday and cheap looking. I am not thrilled with blank buttons, even if one were to get every option available there would still be blanks.

And while i love my Macan and the interior, i/we are a picky bunch. I therefore agree about the feel of the turn stalk when you click it. It is not a quality feel at all.

As for the wiper stalk, it's a pain to switch the rear wiper and not over press and wash the window. Poorly made.

Also, not sure why, but when I turn the signal on to make a sweeping turn where I live, my X5 and every other BMW I've owned it would shut off after the turn. On the Macan it's like my Jap cars and stays on, requiring a further turn of the wheel. That makes me nuts.

What???? You don't listen to CDs on your Macan? LOL!!!! You would love to see a Macan that was delivered on the same day as mine. Not happy with 1 CD slot the guy ordered the 6-CD changer. :nerd:

@MDJAK you are so correct about the rear washer assembly- probably the most frustrating thing on the car- you want to just turn the **** thing on delay and all of a sudden you are washing your perfectly clean rear window.

In terms of the cd door, wondering what it would take to remove ithe guts and turn the space into contained storage area . Would be perfect for sunglasses and my ez pass thing a job which I don't want to attach but need to keep handy.

For me the turn stalks are fine. I like the tactile feel and the click sound is just right.

I guess I'm old school because I still use the CD player. I made a special CD called "Porsche Macan 2016" to play when driving my Macan home. ;) LOL. I also think The Bose system is great.

Extra storage would be nice but I knew what I was getting when I bought the Macan. When I finally embrace the use of an iPod, perhaps a mod to convert the CD compartment to storage will be available.

While we are at it, this is an exterior comment. The rear wiper. I love the hidden trunk release on it. Very cool and thoughtful. But, why have the wiper there at all? On my wife's lexus (hope I'm not sounding like you know who) the wiper is buried, hidden up top under the rear spoiler. Much cleaner look.

I realize that I may well be in the minority when I say this but my wife and I could really do without a lot of the techno-whizz that comes with most new automobiles in this day and age. We are both drivers and appreciate performance and functionality without complication. The Macan is an excellent vehicle without all the "bells and whistles". In our opinion, they got it right with the PDK, the engine, the suspension and overall build quality. Most of the rest is superficial "fluff". Yes, the amenities are nice but, for us, unnecessary.

Haha Im sure a lot of people are replying there is nothing cheap about a standard interior Macan, which may be true.

Just depends what you're accustomed to. Compare to some specific classes of bmw, Mercedes, audi or lexus etc.

I used had two Bentleys in the past so some things im a bit picky.

I guess you should've worded as "what options can improve the interior a lot better? haha"

First: You want full leather interior, two tones like Pebble Grey and Garnet Red will show contrat stitching which improves some visual quality.
Second: all those empty buttons in the center console will look not as good, so be sure to fill all the buttons with sport exhaust, pasm air, SC, ventilated seats, LKA, smoker's
Third: If you did choose leather interior 2 tone, if you pick the seat console in leather and steering column in leather, you will get stitching there as well in contrast as well which is really cool. Be sure to pick leather sun visor and rear view mirror too. The Porsche logo on headrest will show case the big headrest.

Theres more....

A car with no tech bells and whistles in this day and age is .... vintage . Give me tech . Give me tastefully done bells and whistles and give me performance on a car that looks great and I'll buy it on the spot . Wait ! I did get that and I did do that . It's my Macan .

I saw this post from the beginning and thought there isn't anything that makes the Macan's interior look cheap. However, while driving yesterday, about 8 months after taking delivery, I realized that I hate the rear view mirror. I admit this is the most minor of issues but I hate it. I think it's the shape, to me it looks cheesy and it reminds me of those old cat eye glasses from the '50's and '60's (that I may have read about in the history books ..... ). I realize it probably has that shape to maximize the view, but I still hate it and so much so that now I try to avoid looking at or into it. I've adopted the philosophy of "what's behind me isn't important."

I don't think so the sport design mirrors are smaler then the normal ones.
The difference is basically the v-shaped holder painted in car colour.

I also don't like the rear mirror. If you want to see cars which are far back on the autobahn you have to change the angle (more up) and then 1/4th on the sight in the mirror is the ceiling of the car :(
