Hot and fresh video review of 2nd gen. Audi Q7, where we can get a hint where VAG is moving on large SUV segment with a "Audi' flavour topping, and where new Q5 and SQ5 for that matter will be cooking from.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1PVixXWc9M

What do you think? does VAG is capable of keeping differentiating Audi brand line from our beloved Macan's?

p.s. i just love this guy accent. Canonic Ze German!

I like where they went with the interior. The outside is a bit blah. . . same with the new R8.
Totally agree, I tend to value the interior more than the exterior because that's where one spends more time.

I've already booked a test drive, unfortunately the date is still "end of June", nothing concrete.

But the performance figures are impressive comparing the smaller Macan with gigantic Q7 diesel.

Audi
0-100km/h (0-62 mph) in 6,3s
Top speed of 234 km/h
CO2 emission: 149g/km

Porsche
0-100km/h (0-62 mph) in 6,3s
Top speed of 230 km/h
CO2 emission: 159-164g/km

alritey, Q7 has improved quite a lot. The guy spent too much time seating in every of the 7 seats, and was pushing his water bottles to every hole but i guess some people will appreciate his methodical dissection of the usability and interior space. he then talked about riding comfort, noting how wonderful air suspension is, especially on bad roads.

what strike me first is this:

what the ****, it uses Google maps, you can have this, have a map in a separate monitor and you get a head up display on top... and even native integration with Apple Carplay, Porsche step up pls.
by the way, why Porsche is afraid of the head up displays? is it too much for a driver oriented target group? would it be nice to look on Head-up display instead of the so called vintage 'navigation screen' in the Macan? i guess you can not have it all.. but i would of payed a LOT for improved gizmos tbh. I know it's just a financial holding (VAG) but may be Porsche infotainment department stuff go for a few walkabout into the Audi campus for a change to pick up fresh ideas of the group?

secondly, did you noticed sideblades on this heavy q7? another familiar ringbell for us. ok, i'm glad finally Audi can offer alternative to BMW main source of income and provide more competition to the segment. I know Cayenne is the flagship model so this will get all the important updates first but our little offspring shall not be forgotten in the miami vice hasselhoff inspired infortaitment!!

anyway, despite all this extravaganza, Q7 is there to transport families, where we are after a bit of a different beast!
long live the Macan!

ok, i must stop this embarrassment now. still counting days to get my hands dirty, 90 days left :((((

The only issue is that for a SUV with a base price of €60.900 according to what the equipment he mentioned in his review, his Q7 had over €45.000 in extras... it's insane.

That leather everywhere is mentioned costs €13.000 alone, and the cheapest leather package (€1500) doesn't offer the top of the dash in leather.

The new Q7 is the first to use the new platform, which will be used for the future Cayenne, Touareg, Urus and Bently.

@Rammjamm

The only hope is there is discounts to be had in Audi.

1st the fact that he's wearing a Yankee jersey immediately adds credibility to his review ;). The exterior is a definite improvement over prior version although still not a big fan. I always liked the Audi interior but now with the screen popping up out of the middle of the dash well I absolutely hate that. All the tech stuff is nothing short of awesome its a real shame Porsche doesn't adapt that technology to their vehicle's.

Audi is such a great car these days. Luckily the market between them and Porsche covers two fairly different markets instead of the same.

The technology should trickle down through all vag cars soon enough.

I don't know. I like the refreshingly retro approach that Porsche uses. I like BMW's interiors for the same reason (although I would like them more if they used better materials). I like having buttons for doing things, and old-fashioned gauges. The only thing I would like to see Porsche adopt is a much more up-to-date nav system and better graphics on the head unit. Google maps maybe, but I'm not sure - Google maps and I often don't see eye-to-eye when it comes to the spoken directions and routes it comes up with. I would like to see Apple Carplay integration and whatever the Android equivalent is.

I don't want to see huge LCD cluster screens, and standing-up iPad style screens on top of the dash need to die.

What about brand new Head Up display on Porsche Macan? Never going to happen? :(

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in my opinion, in this segment I would be looking at the new XC90. Tons of tech, tons of safety, much better looking, incredible interior. Resale will be less, but deals will be better. And BY FAR the best Euro delivery program available. Purchase under A Plan pricing and you can mitigate quite a bit of the resale loss.

If you want a sporty version of this you will need to wait for the Q8 to be released which is two or three years away. It's on my list!
