@Bert, this is not a refurbished part, it is a revised version that you want that ends in an "AX" and it is brand new with new programming module and it did take about a month to ship. There is extensive precedent to this including this forum so I would push for total coverage. We had both Cayenne and Macan transfer cases replaced and my SA at least for the Cayenne said that he would replace it even out of warranty given precedent and several published bulletins. Either way, 650 USD is a great price to get this fixed so I would say your are very fortunate to have it diagnosed quickly and then ordered.

I suspect Porsche is going to offer goodwill on the transfer case outside warranty period. They didn't issue a recall for this because it is not a safety issue in general.

 

I agree. I have a 3rd Party Extended Warranty... but my thoughts are that Porsche will not even remotely put up a fight on this if it were to raise its head.

Seems like a lot of people have had transfer case failure. Dealer just called me and said needs to be replaced.

What does this include? is it the just case or gears include? sorry for lack of knowledge and appreciate details.

Here you go — full list. They replace the full case (with internals). Just had mine replaced yesterday

 

Transfer case refers to the entire unit with gears. I guess I never thought of the term but see how one might hear "crank case" (which is just the housing for the heart of the engine) and equate the two.

It would be most expedient for them to remove/replace the entire unit, but I've been surprised by both Subaru and Porsche in the past. For some issues they'll only provide a sub assembly and make the dealers do the build.

What are the symptoms of a
bad transfer case?

 

Make sure you get the "new" part: "95B.341.010.A" (hard to imagine that you wouldn't, but verify when you pick up your Macan)

 

Ensure the newer part is to be installed into your vehicle *before* they perform the service!

 

I really hope this is now sorted in the facelift.

 

On one of the other transfer case threads here I read that Porsche has vent extension kits for the transfer case and differential that raise the vent opening to make it less likely for either of them to suck in water. Does anybody have the Porsche part numbers for those vent kits? Thanks!

 

Porsche needs to add the vent kit to all existing Macan's free of charge.

Macan S 2017 Transfer Case replaced at 13k (2 1/2 yr).
Part replaced with: 95B341010AX

No questions asked after road test. Took 48hrs to repair. Part in stock. Performance back to normal. No complaints with dealer in Puerto Rico.

 

I had my 2015 Macan S transfer case replaced last month at 34 k on the odo.I probably should have had it done earlier as it seemed to slip for a year or so prior to replacing it. Having it done 3 months before the warranty expires put a smile on my face as my SA said it would have cost near $ 5,000 to get it fixed out of warranty.

 

Kshore, what were your symptoms and how did you present this to the S/A , dealer ?

Darn, my transfer case seems to behave perfectly at 34k miles and I only got 2 months of warranty left.

Has anyone else wished his/her transfer case had failed like me now? LOL

2015 40k miles and warranty is up 3/15/19. Got to them in the nick of time.

Also had to replace exhaust as it was loose.

 

You are making me more nervous. I need to drive 6000 miles in 2 months to find out.

 

Bring it in for service and have them check it out before warranty expires.

 

I just had a free comprehensive inspection at the dealer. Dealer says car is in like new condition. :laugh:

 

Please keep this thread strictly just reporting on if you have a transfer case problem, and only if you have a confirmed problem. Well, I won't complain about the car's quality, but I do have a transfer case problem, Macan S 2015 with 43 K miles. I only had to wait for about a week for them to order and get the new transfer case delivered.

The dealer will replace it tomorrow.

They told me that if I bring the car in the morning, in the afternoon I can pick it out.

 

2016 Macan S Transfer Case

Hello, kindly add my Porsche to the transfer case list. It's a 2016 Macan S, which started having problems at 21,000 miles. I was finally able to identify the issue thanks to this thread (Thank you!).

My car currently has 22,700 miles on it and I dropped it off at the dealer this morning (Porsche of Wilmington NC). Based upon my description they agreed that it sounded like a transfer case, and they just called to confirm. Ordered the parts overnight. and I should have it back sometime on Thursday. Will update once I receive the car.

 

I just got my transfer case replace today, 2017 Macan S with 40,100 miles. Apparently I think I always had the issue when I bought it Sept. 2018. I just happen to read a post from facebook the other day on the symptoms and I was like yeah i have that at times. It is like night and day, very big difference the shifts are smooth through the gear shifts unlike before. The very subtle changes in shifts I thought it was normal but its not, notice some thumps in the shifts that would increase but does not happen all the time in which made me bring it in to get the transfer case checked.

I made an appointment online, when I arrived I talked to the service advisor and said I experience judder and thump when accelerating from a stop position and it doesn’t happen all the time. Then I said I read someone experienced a transfer case issue in Facebook with the same symptoms I’m experiencing. So they road test it and was not sure because it’s very subtle, then they turn it off and road test again which result positive for transfer case problem. Luckily they had the part and I just waited 3 hours.

 

Everyone remember something. This is coming from a guy who was in customer service most of his life. Make sure your vehicle meets YOUR level of satisfaction NOT THEIRS! I've said this in other posts, once any work is done, get a good flashlight, some clothes you can trash and crawl underneath to check every nut, bolt, fastener, screw... Ensure there are NO leaks of any fluids. If work was done up on top, pop that hood and get in there. Look for missing trim pieces, ill-fitting covers, leaks.

ritchwell, if you don't like what you are feeling, get back in there. Don't take 'no' for an answer. Start with the SA, then the SM, then the GM. DO NOT take it to an independent at this point! If you do and then take it back to the dealership, you'll have finger-pointing problems and you'll be stuck. Let us know the end result, please.

 

This is my first Porsche and its a cpo vehicle. The judder was so subtle that it’s seems normal, it’s just recently it became more pronounced but it wasn’t all the time. I was just comparing the before and after transfer case fixed that how smooth the shifts are almost like a cvt transmission but in a good way.

 

I had an E34 M5 that had been at the dealer for an oil change. The next day as I was driving it on
the highway I smelled oil a couple of times. I pulled over to check things and when I looked under
the engine I saw oil spattered about and the oil pan drain plug backed partway out (!!! ).

I tightened it up with my fingers, then got a wrench from the toolkit and snugged ti up a bit and
drove home.

Had the plug fallen out at road speed, that would have been an expen$ive experience (those 6 throttle
bodied inline sixes were costly - the head alone was $15K back then).


I advised the dealer that I did not want that particular service tech working on my car again - ever.

Adding my experience to this list. 2015 Macan S. Just under 4 years, just above 50K miles and diagnosed with transfer case failure. Working with Porsche USA now to resolve.

PCNA requested that I have my car evaluated at a dealership. I had this done and they did not find anything wrong. Unfortunately their assessment is discordant with the prior assessment and by my experience (car behaving and making noises consistent with transfer case issues). Nevertheless, probably most appropriate to remove my listing from this database.
