Update

Adding my experience to this list. 2015 Macan S. Just under 4 years, just above 50K miles and diagnosed with transfer case failure. Working with Porsche USA now to resolve.
PCNA requested that I have my car evaluated at a dealership. I had this done and they did not find anything wrong. Unfortunately their assessment is discordant with the prior assessment and by my experience (car behaving and making noises consistent with transfer case issues). Nevertheless, probably most appropriate to remove my listing from this database.

You can do a TC fluid change to see if it gets better, if the TC is not really broken.

Of those of you that have experienced the failed transfer case, at what mileage did it first occur, and how many trips to the dealer did it take to have it replaced under warranty? What was the mileage at the time of failure for the highest mileage Macan that finally had the transfer case failure? I recently bought my first Porsche a 2016 Macan Turbo with just shy of 60k miles. I was wondering if the vast majority of transfer case failures were on low mileage vehicles or if it gradually gets worse as time goes on. I do not want to get stuck with a $3700 Transfer Case replacement bill. After experiencing and hearing the transfer case issues the first time, how long did you drive it, before having it replaced? Was there any increased damage to the case that you could hear or feel as time passed between initially getting it in to the Porsche dealer and having them diagnose the problem and approve the entire transfer case replacement to the time it takes for the transfer case to arrive at the dealership and have your vehicle into service to complete the replacement of the transfer case?

PDK “slipping”

We have a 2017 Macan S. When briskly accelerating on a dry surface from a stop or roll the PDK slips or stutters (it feels a bit like if the road was wet and one or more of the wheels are losing traction). Although this seems to be something that has developed recently we had a loaner Macan at one service and I remember thinking the PDK was much smoother than ours.

Of course we are under warranty but I dread going to the dealer and hearing the inevitable “they all do that sir”.

Do a search on "transfer case".

If you can reproduce it at will, shouldn't be a problem getting it taken care of at the dealer. Go on a drive with one of their guys to show them the problem. If it's sporadic or subtle, then it's trickier. Mine is doing it as well, but can't prove it and they say it feels normal. I'm running low on warranty and actually hoping it gets worse before the warranty ends..

@loopless, that sounds like a transfer case and no model year of the current gen is immune to this problem. There is a lot of content around this issue and many forum members can guide you through it. First thing is to get the dealer to diagnose and agree that it is a bad transfer case and then it is smooth sailing to replace it under warranty.

I had my transfer case replaced and then that still did not solve my problem, so my dealer after i explained there are folks who have had this happen more than once, replaced my main drive shaft, all under warranty. I have a 2015 Macan S, 50k miles. After the drive shaft was replaced, the issue improved, but its still not as smooth as silk as a car of this caliber should be, IMO.

I'm sure they started using a transfer case with a different part number around mid 2017. There should be posts stating this information somewhere in the thread for transfer cases. My early MY 2017 has the original part number which I received in March 2017. It was 1-2 months later Porsche switched to the current transfer case.

So are you saying none of the transfer cases with the new numbers have failed? Have any 2018's failed?

I'm fairly sure it's just the MY 15/16 plus the early 17 models. I'm not aware of any MY18 models having this issue. Also, it seems to only be happening to ones who live in a humid and cool environment such as where you live or anywhere up north, not in the hot/dry areas of the country.

Well , we live in SoCal so there goes the humid and cool theory. But it is an early 2017...

Anyway, booked a dealer visit in two weeks,so we shall see....I’ll try and make it worse in the meantime?

2016 Macan S with 44k having TC replaced today at Bluegrass Motorsport in Louisville. I bought it CPO from a dealership in FL and I've put less than 500 miles on it. It did not exhibit shuddering when cold, only after it had been driven a while. Knowing this, I kept it running when I arrived and had the service manager get straight in it for a drive. As soon as he took off out of the parking lot he said yep there it is. Says they have the part in stock and it will be done today.

I just looked into it a little deeper and the problem goes through the early MY 18 not 17 models as I had stated earlier. The new transfer cases have a different part number and were released in March 2018 so all Macans manufactured before then have the old one. Keep your fingers crossed.
