Hello,

This not really a complaint, My turbo started to shudder when I was backing up and when I put it drive it would shudder in 1st, 2nd and a little in 3rd. The car has 14k miles. I brought to the dealer and it turns out that the transfer case has gone out. The dealer was great.
We are awaiting new cv joints that Porsche recommended to be replaced also.

The car has been a great car, this is more of a heads up to all on this forum.

@Teddis, I just loaded what John sent from BGB as his base map of V205 OCT91 plus his Smoothness updates. Then I went to do the full throttle test and to log the data that he asked and I sent him the logs. Now waiting for him to refine it but the way it drives now is already amazing. I asked him to give me the OCT93 as I am getting greedy now as long as it is not compromising smoothness. I let him know that he can cut the power to whatever level required to achieve the smoothness. I am talking about solid acceleration from the line with no jerkiness or hesitation or engine running ahead of the PDK with it looking for the right gear. I even noticed that at medium parking speeds the PDK is not resisting the progress and rolling much more relaxed. The wife test is tomorrow so waiting for her to tell me if she likes it as much as the Base loaner smooth which is her favorite experience with the Macan. However, I have to go and get the kids from some activities today as my excuse for driving it that I am testing the new map...and I can't wait!

Same here. My new transfer case installed 3 months ago was those numbers as well ending in x. So far so good (fingers crossed).

Porsche should make a TC recall and install the new TC for all Macan's.

Just had the transfer case replaced this morning on my 2016 S. I first noticed the symptoms at about 33,500 miles. Ironically I traded in a 2015 S after it had passed the 48 month limit of the factory warranty, as it seemed to be having one of the symptoms of a faulty TC. I had two dealerships tell me it was "normal", but it didn't feel right to me and I wasn't going to roll the dice.

@pshrosbree, I would call PCNA, open the case, and ask for FULL compensation on this known issue well documented in the several official bulletins posted on this forum and stating that for those reasons there is a revised version of TC has been introduced (with revised part number) with updated software making out of warranty excuse they give you invalid.

FINALLY! My Turbo's transfer case was replaced today at 41k miles by my dealer

Macan shifts smoother since transfer case replaced. No more slipping when shifting at lower RPMs. Happy with how it drives now

Has anyone from CA/AZ (dry warm areas) had the TC issue? I understand the issue is caused by moisture getting in the TC.

You can do a TC fluid change to see if it gets better, if the TC is not really broken.

Of those of you that have experienced the failed transfer case, at what mileage did it first occur, and how many trips to the dealer did it take to have it replaced under warranty? What was the mileage at the time of failure for the highest mileage Macan that finally had the transfer case failure? I recently bought my first Porsche a 2016 Macan Turbo with just shy of 60k miles. I was wondering if the vast majority of transfer case failures were on low mileage vehicles or if it gradually gets worse as time goes on. I do not want to get stuck with a $3700 Transfer Case replacement bill. After experiencing and hearing the transfer case issues the first time, how long did you drive it, before having it replaced? Was there any increased damage to the case that you could hear or feel as time passed between initially getting it in to the Porsche dealer and having them diagnose the problem and approve the entire transfer case replacement to the time it takes for the transfer case to arrive at the dealership and have your vehicle into service to complete the replacement of the transfer case?

I can partly answer your last question: I just purchased my '16S mid March of this year and pretty much noticed it right away. I took it in early on a Tuesday and they knew it was the transfer case from my description of what was happening. They gave me a loaner and called me the next day to say the car was ready to be picked up WITH a new transfer case. So they must be doing quite a few of these to have transfer cases in stock. Thank goodness my car is certified preowned (CPO) so this was done under the CPO warranty at no cost to me.

PDK “slipping”

We have a 2017 Macan S. When briskly accelerating on a dry surface from a stop or roll the PDK slips or stutters (it feels a bit like if the road was wet and one or more of the wheels are losing traction). Although this seems to be something that has developed recently we had a loaner Macan at one service and I remember thinking the PDK was much smoother than ours.

Of course we are under warranty but I dread going to the dealer and hearing the inevitable “they all do that sir”.

Do a search on "transfer case".

If you can reproduce it at will, shouldn't be a problem getting it taken care of at the dealer. Go on a drive with one of their guys to show them the problem. If it's sporadic or subtle, then it's trickier. Mine is doing it as well, but can't prove it and they say it feels normal. I'm running low on warranty and actually hoping it gets worse before the warranty ends..

@loopless, that sounds like a transfer case and no model year of the current gen is immune to this problem. There is a lot of content around this issue and many forum members can guide you through it. First thing is to get the dealer to diagnose and agree that it is a bad transfer case and then it is smooth sailing to replace it under warranty.

I had my transfer case replaced and then that still did not solve my problem, so my dealer after i explained there are folks who have had this happen more than once, replaced my main drive shaft, all under warranty. I have a 2015 Macan S, 50k miles. After the drive shaft was replaced, the issue improved, but its still not as smooth as silk as a car of this caliber should be, IMO.

I'm sure they started using a transfer case with a different part number around mid 2017. There should be posts stating this information somewhere in the thread for transfer cases. My early MY 2017 has the original part number which I received in March 2017. It was 1-2 months later Porsche switched to the current transfer case.

2016 Macan S with 44k having TC replaced today at Bluegrass Motorsport in Louisville. I bought it CPO from a dealership in FL and I've put less than 500 miles on it. It did not exhibit shuddering when cold, only after it had been driven a while. Knowing this, I kept it running when I arrived and had the service manager get straight in it for a drive. As soon as he took off out of the parking lot he said yep there it is. Says they have the part in stock and it will be done today.
