Any rumors if/when the Macan will have the same camera setup as the Panamera (and maybe other models)? Think it can be retrofitted?

From the USA config:

Surround View
Four high resolution cameras provide a 360° view for more convenient maneuvering while the intersection view can also provide assistance at blind intersections.

The Macan cameras look like 240p, with fisheye lenses, for the price they charge they could buy 4 very decent smart phone cameras (about $50 each at batch price) put a wide angle lens (about $20 each at batch price) and would have a 720p resolution (because of processing power required for higher resolution), which scaled down to the PCM screen would give a super image.

But hey, why spend $280 in material when you can only spend $80 and still charge $2000.

True but once I gun it and those twin Turbos kick in,who thinks about the cameras.
Since you live near the engineers they may repossess your Macan for any negative criticism :D
I do envy the clarity of the RVC in my Wife's Lexus.

@Jshore

If they repossess, then I could use the same price policy as they do... I would get a big profit.

@TimA Thanks for posting.. very helpful for prospective buyers. Looks like the panoramic view of front and rear is more wider than just the regular rear camera. Only place I miss this option is during winter with huge snow banks and creeping out of a junction without knowing if there is vehicle coming across...

Thanks for posting @TimA. Great to see the surround view in action.

Your video's do a very good job of demonstrating the systems capabilities and quality.

The picture resolution/contrast is not great, but it's actually a bit better than I was expecting - given how poor the standard RVC is.

I'm going to include this on my next Macan.

These are some great videos of the Surround View option from @TimA and @Rammjamm of the operation of this option in a wide-open space. My use case will be tight garage parking with a pole that I need to get very close to, so I'm hoping to find some videos of how well Surround View does in those situations.

Specifically, I'm interested to see how accurate the camera's are if I need to get within an inch or two of an obstacle? I'm sure the audio and proximity sensors would be at maximum, so I'm hoping to be able to turn those off and just rely on the cameras. Is this asking too much of this system?

When I reverse, the rear camera spans the whole PCM screen and I need to manually press the small '>' to show surround view every time.

Any way to turn surroind on automatically every time I reverse?

I've been unable to find a preference and the setting is not 'sticky' (doesn't remember what I did last time I reversed).

Mine is defaulting to a split view with the surround and rear camera. I don't recall doing anything special to set it this way. Maybe it's stored with key/user memories?

Mine looks the same as yours.

@DJRob

That's so weird... what model year? Even the Porsche tech at Bellevue Porsche said this could not be done... it always comes up in full-screen reverse with no surround view.

I have a 2017. I did learn that some settings do not stick due to the key memory. For instance, I changed a display option in the MFD (I added turbo boost to the 4th slot in the Vehicle Menu) and it reset itself. I discovered that since I did not update the key memory (the buttons on the driver's door), they reset after the car was locked then unlocked again. Updated the key memory and now it sticks. Maybe surround view setting is also one of the configurations that can be saved to an individual memory? Give it try.

I'm baffled. I'll have to play around with it more.

I also find the surround view very useful but so far I haven't found a way to have it turn on automatically when putting the car in reverse. Surely it's not hard to program a chosen mode to have it default every time.

Another nitpick maybe would be that it would be cool to have the car let you turn on the cameras while driving. I loved this feature in my Tesla and it would actually help a lot in traffic to see better what's behind while driving.

I'm pretty sure the camera defaulting to backup camera only when placed into reverse is a US regulation. The image of what's behind has to be displayed instantly because of the whole backing over children thing. It can probably be reprogrammed through PIWIS. The 360 view comes up for me as soon as the forward sensors detect an obstruction. I also programed the diamond button on the steering wheel to activate surround view for parking when there are no obstructions to automatically activate the display. I can turn it on while the car is in motion below a certain speed. I don't remember the speed. I have no problems turning it on with the diamond button when pulling into a parking space.

I find surround view to be the most practical convenience option in my car right ahead of ventilated seats. I use surround view every time I park back into my garage.

Same here. I use it the same way when pulling in forward in the garage. Unfortunately when backing out, only the rear camera comes up automatically and the diamond button does nothing while in reverse. I must press the "top" button on the screen and then again the "rear" if I want to end up with side by side surround and rear. It's not too smart the way it's implemented.

I can’t remember how I did it but it is programable to come on automatically and I never have to touch the screen, the reverse camera comes on as default when you select reverse and the surround view activates itself as it detects an object close by.

I think it is a great feature and find I miss it when in one of my other cars
