Any rumors if/when the Macan will have the same camera setup as the Panamera (and maybe other models)? Think it can be retrofitted?

From the USA config:

Surround View
Four high resolution cameras provide a 360° view for more convenient maneuvering while the intersection view can also provide assistance at blind intersections.

We just ordered our Macan last friday, because of our garage we wanted the surround view for easy parking, but our sales person told they just received a message last week from Porsche that the ordered vehicles (non macan) with Surround View option were delayed with at least 12 weeks. So he said it will be unlikely that this option will be available for the Macan until all 'issues' will be resolved. Our production date is March 2015, so we'll see... but until further notice it seems this option is 'on hold' and not available.

I went on the configurator as I may need to order a new Macan Turbo as my current vehicle is heading towards lemon status. Some things I noticed

1) Prices have increased slightly
2) Surround view with park assist is now an available option.

Anyone add the surround view to their current order? I wonder if the camera will be as poor quality as the rearview park assist camera.

@d13kim Go check it out on the Panamera. I'm sure it will likely be very similar.

OK. my lock date is happening soon. Time for a last minute stupid options headache harsh decisions me thinks. I have found at least 5 if no more forum threads on this and Zero real answers about the quality of the picture in the surround view.
Is it the same bad as the rear one only, is it better, is it worse?

Can someone brave, or all-in options guy/girl?, who opted for Surround View on Macan (may be noone up to date) can chime in some feedback and post pictures of the surround view views? if this option upgrade pic quality of the rear view only cameras i might pull the trigger. sigh.

I have surround view on my S, which arrived in beggining of May, ordered in February (Moscow, Russia). I don't remember nothing about quality of a standard rear view camera. But surround view camera is rather useful option. The reason is - Macan is my first SUV and I can't correct feel sizes of a car.
The resolution is good, quality of picture is nice, but there are some strange issues of this system.
Once it doesn't started, worked park sensors only...
Another one permanent annoying item - when you choose one of a standard "views", you must choose this option manually every time when you select "R" on gear stick.
Other... the direction lines are dim. And in "Fly View" when system founds an impediment, an area (around park sensors on the screen) paints to yellow or red colors, and these colors are too non-transparent so you can't correctly see distance to the impediment.

I hope Porsche will fix all of these issues soon by new software. :)
Anyway if I would order Macan now, I'll choose this option again.

Tim.

Hey @Gobbi, Based on what I've seen, I don't think the rear facing camera picture quality is any different. However, there are three additional cameras on the car. One camera is on the front grill just above where the ACC sensor goes; and second and third cameras are on the bottom of each side mirror, pointing downward. The four cameras provide additional feedback on how close you are to curbs and other cars & objects in close proximity.

I've ordered it for my car. If it saves my rims from getting curb rash when parallel parking, I'll consider it well worth the extra expense. Hopefully someone else can provide pictures and their experience.

Yes exactly, all of what you have just mentioned. But if the quality of each 4 cameras are better then the default back one, my decision making process is much easier. but no one has reported it yet, probably not being ordered that much! ehh

I think the key with this option is "Don't expect it to be HD quality" and then you won't be disappointed. Almost no one thinks the RVC is anything special and that's been out for awhile. Porsche we know does not exactly outfit their vehicles with the newest cutting edge technology. Surround view is a newer feature for the Macan (not sure how long it's been out on other models), and it should aid nicely with parallel parking. But considering the RVC is maybe ranked as average or worse compared with other brands (and it's been out longer) don't expect a first year surround system to be ground breaking.

Edit: First year the system has been out for the Macan I should say, as it's technically the second model year it's been available now.

Thanks for posting @TimA if I do step up to the Turbo I probably will get the surround view It's average at best but will still be helpful even in my tight garage.
