I might be wrong. This is a cut&paste from a thread:

"I have an update. I emailed both Autel and iCarsoft customer service. I asked about the 2019 / 2020, but assume the answers would be similar for earlier years as well.
Autel: The Autel MD808 Pro (available here for $233) does support Battery Management System, and allows you to register the new battery on a Macan. This is per Andrew Libert @ Autel
iCarsoft: The older iCarsoft Por II does not support BMS. However, the iCarSoft V2.0 (available for $146 here) does allow you to register the new battery on a Macan. This is per Barnett Davies @ iCarSoft.

So, it sounds like there are at least 2 reasonably-priced tools which allow you to reset the battery on a Macan for DIY people (like me). :) If anyone on this forum ever does it successfully (or tries it unsuccessfully), please add to this thread!"

Sorry bout that. Guess it does...
IIRC we eventually found out neither of these actually work on a Macan.
Well then I take back my take back. Or something like that. Bottom line, I was correct in my initial spin on this. Thanks for the update Shark!

I live in So California and drive my Macan at least every other day but I'm curious if anyone here would recommend I get a CTEK (MUS 4.3? Snowflake mode?) and try topping it off routinely, just to see if I can get some extra life out of my battery...until we come up with a solid DIY solution here. CTEK owners, any thoughts?

I would think that if you were driving more than several miles every other day, you would have no problem keeping your battery fully charged, and there’s a little reason to buy a CTEK.

I only drive my Macan on weekends but I always give it a good run on the highway and never needed a trickle charger in the last 4.5 years.

Wondering if it’s a HW limitation....

Thanks for your email.

Please note that POR II can't support battery.

You need the new released version POR V2.0.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

ThanksSincerely,

So it would seem there's no clear answer as to whether our Varga OEM batteries should be charged at 14.4 or 14.7.
...
14.7 V

I think I had contacted Varta.

See long thread

Once we have a reasonably priced tool to register replacement batteries, here's another source for the battery itself:

I'm convinced we will soon see the Icarsoft, Foxwell, lower priced Autel, or something similar have the battery registration capability.

Hey All,

My 2017 S started to show some signs of a weak battery after 3.5 years. Even though I used to change batteries in my previous cars, after reading some threads here and on Rennlist, I decided not to deal with the process myself. It seems like a hassle to get the right model and get it registered in ECU. But the dealer closer to my home provide a quote of $885 total, which doesn't sound right to me. This dealer is owned by Autonation. Strangely even though they're not specialized in luxury brands, their quote seems always higher than the other 2 Porsche dealers in my area that owned by a group only sells luxury & ultra-luxury brands. I'll try to call the other 2 dealers later. But I wanted to know what a reasonable price would be to get this done? Thanks!

A 'reasonable' price would be a hundred and fifty bucks maximum. What you are facing is what Autonation thinks is 'reasonable'. Face it, this forum ought to find a decent registration tool and we will all kick in some money to buy it and pass it around. Then we can go out and buy a proper battery and register it ourselves. $885 for a mundane dealer installed battery is a rip off.

I more than fully agree on this one... well said.

Looks like it cost $789.00

Expensive but may be worth it.

If you can use to replace a battery for $200 instead of $700 & DIY oil change a couple of times...that alone may pay for it. Future oil changes & other uses are extra $$$ in your pocket.

Thanks for price correction.
Seems there is a mini and a tablet version.
Are these “LAUNCH” knock offs is the question....

As usual, caveat emptor...

...and, who the heck knows who the poster really is over in the other forum. He could be someone
who markets or is otherwise associated with manufacturing/selling/etc. these units to people. The
poster may not even be using the device, simply making screenshot and posting them to a forum
likely to generate sales.

If you follow the Cayenne link...to the use of the device.....it is pretty clear many are having success.....without issue....just saying.
Oh, and the poster is local to me....and invited men over for a friendly coding session.
