Confusion

I'm new to the Macan family, as well as this forum, so I've never known the correct pronunciation. I've been saying "May-Cahn" since its release... I suppose it's just another pronunciation like the Bentley Mulsanne/Bentayga that no one can seem to agree on. Just glad I was half correct ;)

Missed this very interesting thread before now.
I think I'll emulate @WHT TGR if asked, and identify mine as a White Tiger. If pressed I'll say Porsha Mah-Tchan, appropriately I reckon. :nerd:

Porsche's inability to pronounce a Bahasa word is no excuse for sloppiness on my part. I was puzzled when I first heard aluminium pronounced alooominm and have never adopted that. So too with Mazda, which some call a Maars-da. At first I thought it was a new brand. Then I realized some say Zeee instead of Zed.

I'll continue saying Volkswagan though, as Folks-Vargon sounds too pretentious I think. Buggered if I'll adopt Ooorstralia for Uhstraylya though.

I'm thinking about appending a red 'S' to the Turbo badge. If anyone queries that I'll simply explain that Porsche made a grave error by omitting it. If challenged I'll show them performance upgrade CF plate on the motor, or engine as some would have it - you know, under the clamshell bonnet.

PS: May-Con is even worse than Maaarsda. ;)

Haha, yes, that movie was sure influential all right. It was pretty good too, in its day. Must have been a long time ago.

I dont visit this forum much these days so Im glad I noticed your post, and will take this opportunity to convey some good news to my mate @WHT TGR. My Macan Turbo S has finally been built last Monday I heard. So exciting but such a long trip here, so Ill be waiting a while yet. At least they got the colour right.;)

After some research on the Internet, I believe the proper pronunciation of Macan should be "ma shon"...with a soft "a" after the M and the second syllable pronounced with a soft "o".

Of course, many people in the car world still pronounce Porsche as "porsch"!!!
So, this may take A little effort for people to say correctly.

What does everyone think? I have not heard any ads for the new Macan yet.
Just to advise everyone that the correct pronunciation would be "Ma-chan" with the 'chan' sound like how you would say 'chance' british way (of course without the 'ce' at the end). I should know this as I'm Indonesian Javanese.

In Indonesia, it’s pronounced mat’jan.

MA (like mama)
CAN (like Khan or Kahn)

I haven't seen anything from Porsche regarding "Macan," but regarding "Porsche" this is (as I posted about two years ago) a scan of part of a page from the Quick Start booklet that came with our ordered 2018 S:
I'm with her....two syllables....Por-sha....

There is another benefit for having the ignition on the left side: I can place my left foot on the brake, have the key in my right hand just inside the door and turn the ignition without having to get into the Porsche. Then, if I want, I can walk away from the Porsche wit the key still in my hand. NOTE: the Porsche is in my garage; not on the street.
