After some research on the Internet, I believe the proper pronunciation of Macan should be "ma shon"...with a soft "a" after the M and the second syllable pronounced with a soft "o".

Of course, many people in the car world still pronounce Porsche as "porsch"!!!
So, this may take A little effort for people to say correctly.

What does everyone think? I have not heard any ads for the new Macan yet.

Well that would be interesting, if 'the ignition in every Porsche vehicle was located on the left'. But that statement has never been true - never in their race cars and certainly not on their road cars either! Who writes that stuff anyway? Perhaps that is how the pronunciation gets changed around, some ad man comes up with another great idea ...

According to this website, the name Macan is derived from Indonesian word for tiger. Actually, it is leopard, not tiger. Tiger in Indonesia is harimau, just like Malaysian/Malay language. But, leopard in Malay is harimau bintang while in Indonesia is macan. If it is an Indonesian word, then the correct pronunciation is Ma as in /ˈmamə/ and Can as in a Japanese cartoon Crayon Sin-chan / Oni-chan, a Japanese salutation for young people. It’s also the same pronunciation if you know the Chinese actor’s name, Jackie Chan. The closest but not the same pronunciation in ipa system might be /tʃɑːn/. So, /ma tʃɑːn/. But, since Porsche is from German, just pronounce as you wish as long as you’re happy. Porsche AG: Name for new Porsche SUV is Macan - Porsche USA

Macan:
The small SUV known as the “Macan” was originally rumored to be called the “Cajun,” after the communities in the bayous of Southern Louisiana. The word “macan” itself can either refer to the Indonesian and Malaysian term for “tiger” or the Serbo-Croatian word for “tomcat.”

History
Initially announced in November 2010 as a development project,[2] and formally announced by Porsche in March 2011, the Macan model name was decided in 2012.[3] Pronounced [matʃan],[stress?] it is the Javanese word for 'tiger'.
