Porsche Floor Mats or Weather Tech?

Happy New Year all. SO thrilled to see this forum. Not only did I reference all your great discussions BEFORE purchasing my first Porsche, now I get to be a part of the conversations.

I live in the SF Bay Area and just returned my "lemon" Volvo XC90 - 7 seater. What a joy my Macan S is to drive by comparison. I have the 2018 S, black exterior, black 21 inch wheels and carbon black interior. Reading your experience with how difficult to find and expensive the 21 inchers are, I may regret getting them. but they look. SO. good.

Anyway. 2 questions to start: First, what kind of extended warranty or "protection" do you recommend? I've read that getting the tire/wheel insurance will pay for itself easily. What about extended warranty or pre-paid services? Anyone get the exterior coating? That black looks amazing when its clean and scratch free- which will last about 5 days!

Second topic: floor mats. Weather Tech or Porsche? I have just the standard black carpet ones now. And note that I have three kids, ages 10, 12 and 13. I read someone's comments about how quickly the all black look dirty but I can't imagine another color with the carbon black. Although I'm originally from Chicago and have had weather tech back in the day, we don't have much weather here unless we drive to rain/snow.

ALL your suggestions very welcome.

BTW, my 10 year old daughter helped me shop for the car and said we needed Bad Ass Black. Our sales guy laughed - so he gave us a book "Porsche Ladies" and we have enjoyed reading that although women make up only 30% of the buyers, we're happy to be a part of that club!

Happy Driving everyone! And thanks in advance for answering my questions and perhaps even answering questions that I haven't asked yet. This IS my first Porsche!

Happy new year and congats on your new and first Porsche! I was in the same boat 3 months ago, and did get a new 2017 S. I'm very happy with the car and I really enjoy driving it. My other car is a 2016 XC90 T6 and I'm very happy with it too. 22k miles and going strong with zero problems.

Anyways... I went with the Porsche rubber mats and I'm extremely satisfied. Perfect fitting, look and feel nice and no issues with the snow and salt the past few weeks in NJ. Easy to take out and clean. Initially they felt very "slippery" but within a week, with the use, they are not slippery at all. Highly recommended. I also bought the trunk cover (feels plastic nor rubber) but does the job. perfect fitting and protection.

Happy driving:D

I have the Porsche OEM rubber mats in my cars and like them a lot, especially since they have the Porsche logo and a neat sculpted outline of the car in the mat. Cool looking, I think. And they protect the floors very well. Weathertech makes excellent products, I just don't like the cheesy logo badge they put on theirs. Yes, I'm that shallow.

For the first time EVER, I broke down and got the wheel and tire insurance on my Macan. It's a crapshoot, like all insurance, I just figure the wheels are uber expensive and my wife will be driving the Macan a lot. There, I said it. Sorry honey. :(

What's with Macan owners with XC90's ... I just traded in my wife's 2010 XC90 for a brand new XC90 T6 R-Design. Choose Blue to match my Macan Turbo. The old XC90 was a workhorse with zero problems after 120,000km; but the new one that we pick up tomorrow drives so much nicer.

Anyway, I had the Porsche Rubber Mats and swapped them out for the WeatherTech ones. Mainly because of the snow and the WeatherTech ones have a lip to contain water. However, I must say that the WeatherTech rear mats suck as they don't seem to hold it's form.

Also, not sure if it is true, but the store that I ordered the WeatherTech mats said order the Audi T5 ones as they are identical but they charge less.

Well, key point for me regarding WeatherTech mats is simply the better protection in winter. Our winters suck and it comes with tons of salt, etc. I learned this the hard way with my Touareg — carpet was a PITA to clean come spring.

The WeatherTechs go into storage by April and hibernate.

Here is another alternative. [ame]https://www.amazon.com/3D-MAXpider-Custom-Complete-Porsche/dp/B014KPJXQM/ref=sr_1_9?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1515182588&sr=1-9&keywords=porsche+macan+floor+mats[/ame]

They look really good, stay in place and have very good coverage. I like the texture and they are holding up really well.

That 3D MAXpider looks nice, and I was unaware of the brand and product.

I bought the WeatherTech system a few weeks ago, and it works very well -- the recent snow and slush have proven that. Also, I ordered the set in Cocoa, which goes very well with the Saddle Brown leather interior in our car.

The 3D product, however, has that nice fabric area for the driver's heel, which is a nice feature. Further, unlike the WeatherTech's two-piece rear-seat product, the 3D appears to have a nice one-piece rear-seat flooring, which I think is a better system.

The downside of the product is that the 3D is available only in black, tan, and gray, and the tan is much lighter than the WT's cocoa. But for other interiors (i.e., not ours), this looks like a nice solution.

I am a long time CocoMats customer for multiple vehicles. These are the highest quality mats you'll find. Cocomats will send you carpet swatch samples, up to 10 I think, for $10 S&H. Go to Cocomats.com. Jay Leno is a fan, watch his video on their website. They're not cheap because they're not cheaply made. I've had mine for 20 years. Zero maintenance, other than a shake once or twice a year!

For the record: I have no affiliation with the company. I just appreciate a quality product that stands the test of time. The cocoa brown (with natural dots) goes perfect with my espressso leather interior.

I just bought Porsche Rubber Floor Mats and Luggage liner for rear (low one). Prefer softer rubber of OEM to harder plastic of Weathertech.
Weathertech probably offer better protection.

Total for everything was $305 including tax on (12/27/17). You can negotiate with parts department. If they are not flexible the go mail order.

I have the same black Porsche all-weather floormats. They look great on my luxor-beige interior. Very nice quality - better than the standard carpeted floormats. I won't be buying Weathertech again. I purchased some from them for a 2005 RAV4 when the original floormats had worn out. The "laser-measured" floormat for the driver's side did not fit.

My find was on a craigslist ad under the 'free' category. Two wonderful carpet mats sized for a BMW 528. They fit the front perfectly. I did WeatherTech and bolsters for the back. Wish I would have ordered the Porsche retainer system, though.

Congrats on your purchase. I use both. Weather Tech for the winter and the Porsche rubber mats for the summer months. The Porsche mats look great with a black interior. Steve
