PCM 4.0(2017) to replace PCM 3.1(2015)

Just out of curiosity if it’s doable, is it the same plugin and can it be an issue with the CPU? I hate the PCM on my 2015 turbo. Also thinking about apple CarPlay but only if it can connect Bluetooth as soon as entering the car, don’t want to be physically connecting every time.

What is your thoughts on the PCM swaps?

When my 3.1 PCM had to be replaced (under warranty) I asked the dealer the same question, and told them I would pay for the extra cost. The Service Manager responded it was not possible due to some compatibility issue. I suspect they just did not want to be bothered researching how to do it.

I'm surprised by now some entrepreneurial aftermarket firm has not developed a modification to achieve this.

I purchased a unit from Nick and had it installed in my 16S. It works very well and the screen resolution is excellent. If you ask he'll send you a link to the Macan installation PDF he put together and it does an excellent job of describing the install. I would however recommend a good installer. I will vouch for how available Nick is to answer any questions you or your installer may have both during, and after (I just updated the software on mine) the installation. There is also a youtube video made by an Englishman who purchased the unit from Nick and installed it himself, in a Macan - if I remember correctly.

Funny - I don't think PCM 4.0 is anything to write home about. I actually prefer 3.1.

Only reason I like 4.0 is specifically for my wife to use CarPlay. And not even because I think CarPlay is all that great... but because she NEVER. CHARGES. HER PHONE. Using CarPlay in her new Macan will kinda force her to at least charge the phone on occasion!

Possible? Yes. Easy? No.

There's no adapter yet, so one has to find the wiring schemas and solder wires accordingly. And flash the PCM4 to match the vehicle's VIN. And flash the dashboard to be able to communicate with a PCM4.

The main connector is physically the same, but some pins have been swapped:

This dude did it (in a Cayenne, same generation and same tech as an early Macan), he says he might sell kits with adapter or/and pre-flashed PCM4 :
