Howdy Aussie Macan Lovers,

Belated post as I received my Macan late last week, and drove it from Sydney to Goulburn and back (~400 km round trip) on handover day, so have tested most of the options and settings already. Weather was atrocious on the drive down, but the Macan handled a little spirited highway driving fabulously. I put this down to the Macan being a combination of quite a heavy vehicle and the amazing AWD system, so never felt like loosing grip or aquaplaning, whilst some other cars on the highway looked a little twitchy given the at times very wet conditions.

The Good:
Over the weekend I've mostly been driving in "Individual" where I've selected Comfort engine, sports suspension, turned auto start/stop off, and sports exhaust on. I find the Macan GTS is definitely fast enough for driving around town without needing to go to Sports or Sports+ driving modes.

I genuinely love the 18 way seats, I'm of slim-athletic build, so can get the side and leg bolsterings to wrap me into the seats really tight. I've done the Sydney to Goulburn trip many times over the years and always felt fatigued / sore in the back after the trip, but definitely not in the Macan!

Very happy that I went with the sunroof and chalk stitching as I think it highlights the interior of my jet black metallic Macan nicely. I was torn between red seatbelts and highlights when ordering but am now very happy with my decision. Also happy that I went with standard rather than GTS suspension given the build of most Australian roads. I've used the air-suspension to lower the Macan a few times and that's definitely stiff enough for city / highway driving with the 21" wheels.

The Bad:
I had horrendous trouble getting Carplay (specifically Waze) to connect the first few days (especially the return highway trip) but have found this was a global issue to due to Apple 15.2 software update. A further Apple Software update to 15.2.1 over the weekend has sorted the problem, so not a Porsche issue, but thought I'd mention in case that helps anyone else!?

Bit annoying that the Macan defaults to "Comfort" drive mode every time I start the car rather than my previous "Individual" mode - even after saving the settings to the key and driver 1 button on the door. Also 'Sports Exhaust on' can't be selected / saved in the settings under "Individual" for Comfort engine mode, whereas Sports, Sports+ drive modes and most of the other suspension options can be selected, so please give me that check box Porsche!

I optioned the vented seats, and even with max fan mode I don't feel they do all that much other than make quite a bit of noise. Better off just running the A/C at max. Speaking of which I can't work out how to get lots of cold air to blow up over the windshield (for hot days whilst driving into the Sun) which I can with my 10 year old Lancer.

On the Fence:
Still unsure whether I should've dropped some other item(s) and selected PTV+ as I've not driven a Macan with that option as yet, albeit I haven't felt like the backend has wanted to slide out on me so far. Similarly, the dealership team inform me that the summer tyres will be fine for driving upto Perisher (once a year ski trip) this winter if I drive sensibly and select off-road mode, so hope they're right.

I would've liked the GT wheels but at an extra $3k went with the standard RS Spiders and they're growing on me. I may go down the self applied style ceramic coating or similar at some point, but don't think having it done at a retail outlet is worth the cost. I also wasn't a fan of the additional (unpainted) plastic grill when I first viewed the Macan a few months ago, but it's slowly growing on me, also one less item to get stone / paint chips I suppose.

Summary:
I've put +500 km on my GTS in under a week, over a variety of driving conditions, and must admit I'm thoroughly impressed with my first high performance car and Porsche. It's a pleasure to drive and I feel very safe / secure in the cabin. Think I'll be hanging onto this car for the next 5-10 years also. 😃

Very nice and Simi;ar tp mythological 20 Turbo only newer and better !!! I also love the seats. sadly if opting leather in Florida the humidity is so high that noise and all the fans have to go on . My 911 has rate tex and is cooler than even with the vents on in our Macan . I stick to the seat even before the vent goes on .

The default to normal is a good thing . Its best for warning up the engine to be on a more subdued setting . Once warm them bam I go right to sport .

I have never used any of the tech except sat radio and phone so car play and such is out of my domain .

You will really get to enjoy this car in sport and even an occasional sport plus mode . Its most impressive on a roll with passing for such a large vehicle . Acceleration is linear and PDK sifts are so efficient .

Congrats !! Looks fantastic on black !!

Thanks for your reply and confirmation of similar seat vent experience, @yrralis1 (y)

I have the same experience in my GMC 2500 pickup and Corvette C8-the ventilated seats make a lot of noise, but I don't detect they make any difference at all.

A friend of mine has one of those F-150 Raptor pickups and I was in it this past August. it's seats are actually air conditioned. Now THAT was a grand experience! Completely chilled my back....

I face a bigger problem. It gets so humid in Miami in the summer that I am stuck to the seat before I even turn on the vent . I don’t feel that in the Race Tex. The cloth Center is a cooler surface. We have two full other cars and one race Tex . My older car doesn’t have the ventilation at all. There’s no relief on a humid day.

The truth be told I love the hot humid weather. It softens the skin and is warm enough even at 7 o’clock at night to go swimming and feel totally comfortable. We are now in the 60s at night and I hate it. A lot of locals like the cooler winter weather but I don’t. One time we had a severe cold snap in 2009. I thought the car had heated seats. I got it after swimming and turn the morning mediately and it didn’t have them. It had the button but not the option. I was livid. That is far worse than anything he’s read the latest he’s could ever do .

Any PPF or ceramic coat in the near future?

I’ve had vented seats in 4 cars now (Volvo XC70, Jeep Cherokee, Skoda Kodiaq and now a Mercedes GLA) but I didn’t bother on my Macan order. The Volvo had the most effective, the Jeep a bit less but the Skoda and Mercedes have been mostly noise. You can feel some difference but not enough to justify them, especially as it can compromise the seat comfort itself. If they work well, they are great but I haven’t read any rave reviews from Macan owners who have optioned them.

Seat ventilation setting 2 is my favorite to just leave on during the summer here in Utah (our humidity goes up and down by the day) On setting 2 it does not make noise in my Macan but setting 3 does.

Also, if you have a bad lower back like I do (Herniated S1, L4) and need some relief while driving I do a combo of Heat 3 and Ventilate 1.

Beautiful car, congrats!

Regarding ventilated seats, I’ve had 2 Macans GTS (one custom ordered, the second was a lot car), one with it and one without. Even in the hot and humid Houston climate they were effective enough that we had to have it on the next two, my wife’s 2018 Sport Edition and and her 2022 S on order.

Don’t expect to feel a rush of air, it is very subtle but very effective.

Having said that, my Carrera T has the Sport Tex seats (NOT Race Tex) and they are great, they remain cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather, and seem to last forever looking like new.

BTW the black aluminum trim is the best option, unfortunately only available on the GTS.

100% agree on the vented seats. I'm also here in Houston - and it's remarkable how effective the ventilation is. Can't imagine have a car here without it. Drove Houston to Santa Fe last summer - no back sweat on a 13 hour drive in the summer. Unthinkable without it.

Oh god this thread is really making me question my decision to option leather and ventilated seats. This car will be spending a lot of time in the Qld heat and most posters on here raved about their ventilated seats before I made that option. It also locked in the choice of leather over RaceTex as one of the posters mentioned RaceTex can't be optioned with ventilated seats... Hmmm, things to think about.

Also, @AusGeo I see you optioned the lit black aluminium entry sills! They look great! But I'm curious if the light is distracting at night time?

Gorgeous car, congrats. Please post more of your thoughts and feelings; I can't get enough info at this point :)

Limited experience but I have found the ventilated seats very effective in Dallas. New 2021 GTS with only a few days over 85 since I got the car so the acid test will be this coming summer. However, second hand whining from a friend who has a GTS interior (racetex, no ventilation) who had ventilated seats on a Panemara prior to that, also lives in Dallas, has had the car for about 18 months and prior to November incessantly complained about the lack of ventilated seats. Was in fact a major factor in my decision to go ventilated instead of GTS despite how much I liked the red stitching….

#29 · (Edited)
OMG, didn't realise that my new Macan thread was going to derail into a lengthy discussion regarding ventilated seats. Yes they suck air, just not as well as I thought they would. But they're also brand new and haven't been run in yet, and obviously better on a hot day than without! [emoji849]

Similarly, the door strips are illuminated whilst the interior lights are on, and turn off once the all doors are closed - I had the passenger door open to take the photo. I'm going for a drive and logging out for the rest of the evening...

Black car ???…..you need professionally applied ceramic coat or the colour will drive you mad.
9 year guarantee if you have it done at the right place.
I have all of our vehicles professionally ceramic coated. So worth the cost.

Hi AusGeo,

great review, btw, thanks for sharing.
Ref: “Also happy that I went with standard rather than GTS suspension given the build of most Australian roads.”

I still have the option to change that on my spec and was thinking I should for the same reasons you mentioned.

is there a big difference?

Can it be done by the dealership I.e someone mentioned it’s a software setting only.

#32 ·
Unfortunately I haven’t driven another Macan so can’t provide a direct comparison between the two suspension options. The Macan will be my new daily driver so figured setting the AS similar to the Macan S would be sensible - as per some YouTube recommendations. There’s also a large thread in the forum and I read that it could be changed at the dealership, albeit I haven’t specifically asked Parramatta.

Only time I’ve selected Sports+ was to test on the highway last week, but found the setting a little harsh / aggressive (very wet roads) so mostly flicked between Sports and Individual modes. I’m sure Sports+ would be great on the track or other good roads though.

I may be completely wrong here, but wouldn't the AS hardware on the GTS models be the same, with the difference being a software variation that lowers the standard GTS (i.e. non comfort option) by 10mm thereby inducing a firmer ride due to less overall suspension travel?

I also selected the comfort option after watching most / every video review of the MY2022 models where several presenters commented that the standard AS setting is rather stiff. My logic to the above is when the GTS is set to off-road mode surely both the standard and comfort AS optioned MY22 GTS models should rise to provide the same ground clearance. Might have to bring a tape measure to our first Sydney meet to verify.;)
When you choose the comfort option the car is permanently raised 10mm to S height?
Good question, as I wondered the same a couple of months ago when ordering. So once it stops raining, and we all receive our Macans, I'll bring a set of calipers to the Sydney meet.

Must admit I’m still rather cautious parking at shopping centers and public places at present, figured this owner wouldn’t ding my car if they returned before I did! [emoji120]

Totally understandable with such a beauty and why I’m determined to full PPF after taking delivery.

A friend’s base VW Polo was recently keyed down 4 panels while they were out to dinner a street away in inner city Brisbane, and that car was worth 1/10 of the Macan. Just goes to show that there are far too many people in this world who don’t respect the property of others.

Any more driving impressions for us after a few days? Quirks? Things you do and don’t like?

I would've liked the GT wheels but at an extra $3k went with the standard RS Spiders and they growing on me. I may go down the self applied style ceramic coating or similar at some point, but don't think having it done at a retail outlet is worth the cost.

Congrats on your car arrival! My GTS is slated for pickup at PEC Atlanta in April.

Does the car come with a tire inflator to inflate the spare? If not, how does that work?

What are the options for remote start? Is that even possible with new Macans?

I opted for Race-Tex seats after reading many reviews and watching many videos.

Thanks, and apologies for the slow reply, @RoggieRog.

Yes my Macan came with the space saver spare, jack and tools, and the tire inflator, as per the attached two images. Albeit I haven’t tested as yet, and hopefully never have to, although I’ve done a few over the years should I ever have to.

I don’t think there’s any remote start, as my Macan won’t start unless I firmly depress the foot brake. I can do this standing outside of the car as long as the key is in the car.

Great looking ride. I'm biased but the blacked out Macan is the most stealthy looking Macan available. Worth the trouble in trying to keep clean. Don't be afraid to get the front windshield tinted - I am sensitive to light so it helps bolster the blacked out look as well with no compromise in visibility.

The Good:
Over the weekend I've mostly been driving in "Individual" where I've selected Normal engine mode, sports suspension, turned auto start/stop off, and sports exhaust on. The Macan GTS is definitely fast enough for driving around town without needing to go to Sports or Sports+ driving modes.

Very happy that I went with the sunroof and chalk stitching as I think it highlights the interior of my metallic black Macan nicely. I was torn between red seatbelts and highlights when ordering but am now very happy with my decision. Also happy that I went with standard rather than GTS suspension given the build of most Australian roads. I wasn't a fan of the additional grill plastic when I first viewed a few months ago, but it's slowly growing on me.

Fantastic Review!! Was eagerly waiting on your comments - we pick ours up this Thursday. Great to hear your car’s suspension setup is good - we have the same on order. Bummed to hear the seat vents are not great. We had a Lexus many years ago and the seat coolers worked a treat, so was hoping for the same :( How is the Centre console and trims - finger print magnets or livable ? We are thinking of getting a roof box for the snow but it’s a bit exxy- any thoughts ? Also thinking of OEM upgrade interior trim to CF, any thoughts on the standard trim?

Thanks mate, and definitely looking forward to your photos and review comments in due course also! [emoji2]

As for the centre console I keep a small microfiber cloth in the arm rest bin, and wipe down after every 2nd or 3rd drive, once the engine is off so as to not activate the haptic switches. That said I’m pressing the buttons less with every drive as I’ve found my settings, so to speak. I really like the black aluminum, so no intention to swap out for CF at this stage.

I’m keen to get a roofbox for the snow trips etc also, and do like the Thule setups that 808 and Daya et al have in the following thread:
