hi. it was always my intention to replace xenons headlights with led. Spend time exploring original, used headlights but the more time I spent on this it become obvious that:
1. it will be very expensive to buy good condition (and complete with all electronic) headlights
2. it will be expensive to have them coded

It seems easy to replace xenon's with older led (pre 2021) and coding is not difficult, but the latest led that I wanted was challange. eventually I found what I was looking for but headlights were $3000 and coding $1500. So really not what I was ready to spend.

I end up exploring Alibaba / aliexpress options, and there were so many vendors and products that it was also difficult to select the best one. Anyway, I pulled the trigger and made an order. 2-3 weeks later order arrived:

1. the first challange - the washer. apparently it was not a big deal, and I could 'block it / disable it' by using zip tie.

there is no need to remove bumper, the process was relatively easy
2. removing headlights was easy, and is well described in multiple YouTube videos

3. half an hour later a new headlight is mounted and connected

4. another one mounted:

but, wait a minute, one of the leds on the passenger side is not working. definitely defect. checked all the wires, inside connections, etc. could not fixed it.

5. i also got an error on the dashboard.
Image

6. anyway very happy with how it looks now

i have contacted the vendor, he apologize for the situation, and blame the transport. he is sending me new lights (both) to fix led defect and 'regulation' error. I already got shipment notfication, so I am impressed with service, and hope that new pair will be defect free.

Overall, process was easy, however stressful due to defects. The lights are very strong, way better than xenon. they look better (to me), but you can distinguish them from porsche original headlights. 99% of people will not see it, but these 1% (us, people on this forum) will do.

thanks!

@jim77, did you also change your front bumper? That’s not a 2017 front bumper. That’s 2024. How easy/difficult was it? Did you have to perform some significant/special retrofit on this, or did it just fall in place with all screw holes alignment and everything else?

hi. yes. I had it changed in the workshop. I changed rear, front, side panels and mirrors so externally it is 2022. I don't know how difficult it was, but it was quick service so don't think they experienced issues. they spent some time on electricity because fog light are gone and there are new dlr/indicators. but mechanically did not heard any feedback from them.

All, this is to update you on the progress. 2 weeks after making the complaint to the headlights' vendor, new set have arrived. I installed them today. I have changed both headlights. and...all is perfect. DLR works, no errors on the dashboard. I can not be more happy with my purchase. can recommend. I will keep both original xenon headlights, and first pair of led for some time, to check if this new set will work fine long term, and eventually will sell old headlight some time in the future.

Hi Jim,
I have also installed the same lamps and I also have the same issue as you.
Did you need to replace both lamps Left and Right? Or only one?
Is it possible to send a direct message? I am new on this forum. If this is possible could you please send me a message? I am also Polish so we don't need to speak in English.
Thanks!
And do you know if adjusting hight is working fine? I mean if you put something in the trunk will the light adjust automatically?
I am not sure if this is working now with mine

Boss I am so glad I came across this forum of yours. I purchased mine from Bayoptics from the Bay Area. I received my lights today and tried to install but didn’t know how to remove the headlight washing system. So I put the OEM ones back but tomorrow will definitely zip tie them and just cap it.

Hi Jim, I just bought a 2018 Macan Turbo and would also like to upgrade my Xenon lights (one is damaged anyway) to LED using AliExpress. Wondering which vendor you used and the price you paid? Thanks in advance!
Thank you for the detailed post. I’m interested in replacing my failed 2020 macan LED pdls passenger side headlight unit with an AliExpress unit considering Porsche replacement is $3800. Did you buy direct from AliExpress? Thanks.

@jim77 Thanks for sharing. Looks good. Does your car have PDLS? If so, does the merchant offer different type of LED headlight (with and w/o PDLS)? Can you share the Aliexpress merchant you got the LED headlight from? A link and their name, in case the link is no longer works. TIA.

I did the change of the headlight to these aliexpress led headlight. The brightness is the reason i change, which have much much better visbility during night.

One question to ask though, did you manage to adjust the headlight high or lower to make sure the headlight rubber corner have no gap with the bonnet headlight hole?

i assume you got new brackets that are required. I spent time positioning these brackets and how they are screwed to the previous place. I made one mistake and did not pushed one of the headlight strong enough to the back and whatever i did i could not position it. almost gave up frustrated. Once I placed the light properly all was easy and matched perfectly.

@jim77 great post and stunning macan! Do you have any updates on the longevity of these Chinese versions? Still going strong??

Also does the headlight still move when cornering like the original PDLS xenon unit? Or do you lose that functionality?

Lastly, every video I found for removal of the headlights showed bumper being removed, could you point me in the direction of the video you found where bumper removal isn't needed?

Many thanks in advance!

I’d also love to know how these have held up. Looking for a decent led aftermarket plug and play solution for my olds crazed lights.
Has anyone had success with any of the chinesium Macan LED lights?
