Hey folks!

Some of you may know me from other forums, but my name's Nick and I run the Porsche Audio division at Musicar Northwest. We're a local shop in Portland, OR that specializes in custom audio and radar/laser integrations, but we've also been building plug-n-play Porsche audio system upgrades for the last 7 years. In that time we've helped hundreds of Porsche owners improve their experience with music in their car — I'm sure there's a handful of you here that are running our Stage One tweeter upgrade in your Macan or a Stage Two/Three in a 991 or 718!

Later this month we'll be working on development in a '22 Macan with Bose. This is going to be for our Stage Two solution. If you're unfamiliar with our upgrade paths, that's going to include:
  • Premium Tweeter Replacement
  • Pre-Cut Acoustic Treatment for Doors
  • Audio Interface for BOSE® system
  • 10-Channel Premium DSP Amplifier
The goals are in line with what we currently offer for the 911 and Cayman/Boxster — A healthy improvement to the detail, clarity, imaging, and dynamics of the sound system with a simple, non-invasive DIY installation that utilizes all factory locations. Everything we do is bolt-in and plug-n-play. No wires cut and no holes drilled. The feedback we've received from these systems in the other Porsches has been fantastic and the Macan has a lot of potential for being an even better platform, acoustically speaking.

Here are some photos of what that setup looks like in the 718 now:

I'll be keeping a log of our progress as we work through developing the mounting systems, wiring harnesses and tuning the sound processor for the Macan's acoustics. If all goes as planned we should have that process wrapped up by the end of the month. That puts production somewhere in the Late August/Early September timeframe.

I wanted to also use this post to gauge some pre-production interest and see who might want to get involved in one of these upgrades. We typically launch new applications with a group buy to help promote the new solution and help early adopters save some dollars on the inaugural build queue.

Let me know what you all think and what questions anyone has. Feel free to PM me with questions, but I encourage asking those publicly to help anyone else that might have the same query.

Looking forward to finally adding the Macan to the roster for our Stage Two systems!

Hi everyone! Apologies for the delays on updating this thread — we had some production issues that pushed our projected timeline back quite a ways. That said, we're finally ready to take orders for the Stage Two system and the goal is to get everything shipped in the next two weeks depending on how many orders we get.

Total cost for the Stage Two is $3,595 and includes:
  • High-End Dash Tweeter Replacement
  • Pre-Cut Sound Damping Kit for Front Doors
  • Premium DSP Amplifier
  • Fiber-Optic Audio Interface
Everything comes pre-tuned for the Macan acoustics and shouldn't take more than a few hours to install(the amp takes like 10min). We're also doing free domestic shipping on these initial orders. Shoot me a PM here if you're interested or send an email to musicarnw@gmail.com

My Stage 2 arrived earlier this week. So far I've just installed the hardware (tweeters + amp/DSP), I'll have time to take the door panels off this weekend to do the damping. But I couldn't want so I jumped in with the hardware and... HOLY SH** this is a HUGE improvement.

Haven't done a TON of listening yet but so far, the soundstage and imaging is fantastic. Instruments and voices are distinct and pinpoint-able. The glare and muddiness of the OE Bose is gone (why can't Bose just do this in the first place?)

I'm excited to get the door panels done...

It’s a fantastic upgrade. I also changed out the door midrange speakers and the center dash speaker at the same time. I’d say it’s a very significant improvement. I listed to decent amount of electronic music, the oem sub is about 80% of what I wish it were. I wouldn’t hesitate to do the music are upgrade because the isn’t yet a PnP sub solution yet.

The sub is the easiest upgrade.

I went with a custom enclosure you can get here.

Custom Sub Box

Then I used a JL Audio 10TW1-4 10” sub driven by a Pioneer gm-dx871 mono subwoofer amplifier providing 300 watts at 4 ohms. Very solid deep bass. About a thousand times better than the Bose.

The rest of my system includes JL Audio C2-075ct 3/4" silk dome tweeters in the front dash and rear door tweeter locations, along with Audison AP 4 midranges to the front doors and Audison Voce AV 3.0 midranges to the rear D Pillar.

All in about $1,100 total, and I couldn’t be happier. The system is crisp, clear, hits hard and free of distortion.

These guys do a hideaway box, and the musicar hardware has a subwoofer output. If I planned to keep my Macan for more than a year (moving into a tycan cross shortly) this is the path I would go.

If you do plan to add an amp/sub, make sure to ask Musicar to include the harness for the sub out. It is not included by default.
