I’m opening this thread to start discussion of a new CarPlay/AA system for PCM3.1 launched by Mr12Volt (www.Mr12volt.com).

PorscheDIY YouTube Channel (SUBSCRIBE!!): https://youtube.com/@porscheDIY

I pre-ordered the system and received it last week (one of the first shipments). Installation video:

Mr12Volt Carplay Module Installation - PCM3.1 - Porsche Macan 2015

Given that I have installed the Joye system, then Isudar/Ebilaen, and now Mr12volt, that puts me in a unique position to compare the three systems. Review Video:

UPDATE: Mr12Volt Boot Up Logo change and Factory Mic Hack

The main reason I was driven to the Mr12volt solution is because is the only retrofit system in the market that uses native MOST optical signal transport for audio. Other systems use a Digital to Analog conversion through the AUX input which degrades signal. Mr12volt preserves digital audio signal from source to output.

Mr12Volt - Long Term Review

Can’t wait to it. I just sent them a note about how to install it. I wish I could ship my Macan to you and have you install it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Maybe, but can’t tell. You’ll have more tuning options with this system, as you will see when I publish my review. That will allow you to tune your system more to your liking… but it will always be limited to the quality of your speakers and amplifier.

I’m working on a review video as I have the unique experience of having installed 3 different aftermarket CarPlay systems in my Macan (Joye, Isudar and now Mr12Volt). I’ll go through all the benefits and quirks of each…

As you may have seen in the video, I had to remove the Isudar/Ebilaen board to install Mr12volt.

As a preview of my review, the Mr12volt solution is the best one by a long mile… in most aspects, stability and ease of connection, audio quality are far superior. PCM system integration is the best of the 3 system, except microphone. Isudar leverages factory microphone while Joye and Mr12Volt requires a separate microphone.

Installation is the most difficult of the 3 systems tested. Isudar is only an internal module, so no wires to route to passenger’s well and although Joye is similar in which it has an external module that requires wire routing to passenger’s well, I give the edge to Joye in installation easiness because wires are longer.

My priority had always been audio, having spend several thousand dollars doing a full audio system revamp, having an aftermarket system with native MOST25, is a significant plus for me. And Mr12Volt doesn’t disappoint.

To correct my earlier statement, mr12volt will only work with systems that have MOST25. I don't believe CDR have MOST25. I'm not sure that the base system does either. I think only Bose and Burmester have MOST25.

I asked that question to Mr12volt and told them that this is going to hinder their sales, especially with people that have remaining warranty in their cars. Hopefully they solve it in a future firmware release. It is annoying but for me (I don’t have any warranty left) the audio more than compensates the 3 milliseconds that the splash screen appears.

Long term evaluation on-going. I have experienced no connection issues so far. Sometimes it connects instantly, others, it goes through some boot cycle (10-15 seconds), but it always connect. So far.

I received a response from Mr12volt regarding 3 issues I raised.

1. Mr12Volt splash screen: there is no way to remove the splash screen, but there is apparently a way to replace the Mr12volt logo by a different image…. They are going to send me instructions and files required. The Porsche Logo is already as a splash screen in boot up process… I’ll probably replace the Mr12volt splash screen with this…

2. The Mr12volt icon will take more time, but they said they will work to provide alternatives. I’m going to have to stay tuned on that one.

3. The use of factory microphone they said is their next big improvement with the P3000. So, I’m assuming that for me, it will require that I buythat new system and install when available. I’ll probably wait a few years before doing something like that.

I’ll keep you all posted with further communications and developments.

does anyone have the file equivalent of this for a macan turbo?

either the image itself that i assume i can send to Mr12Volt support or whatever modified version of it they would send back to me i can use to change the boot logo?

i've tried google search and reverse image search and have only found low quality / small versions of a turbo silhouette.

Follow the instructions. No need to send anything to Mr12Volt for conversion.
I watched your video several times, but I am usually on mobile or Apple TV when watching, so I completely missed the steps in the description. In the video you only mentioned receiving files from Mr12Volt, so that was the confusion.

Having said that, the steps say:

I received update file from Mr12Volt and was able to replace the "Mr12Volt" Boot Logo with a OEM "Macan S" logo. It now looks OEM.

Boot logo Files here: Logo update - Google Drive

When I go to the boot logo files, there is only a single image in the directory other than the binary file and it is the generic Mr12Volt boot image.

My request here is for the literal silhouette image and text for the Macan Turbo, which I cannot find.

I see. I got mine from a friend. Let me see if I can find something on this….

I believe @Don16 confirmed, by accident, that Mr12volt won’t work in non-MOST25 head units like CDR. It seems having MOST25 in the head unit (like PCM 3.0 and 3.1 do) is a requirement. @Don16 didn’t plug the fiber in the right location to begin with and TV didn’t appear in the Tuner as an option. As soon as he plugged the MOST25 fiber in right location, the option appeared.

You can’t select CarPlay in Mr12volt without the TV option. So, if you have CDR, it seems you can’t install Mr12volt.

However, upon further research, it seems that it might be able to work with a fiber wire modification... See video below...

If you don’t have MOST25, you don’t have PCM3.1… most likely CDR.

Im not sure if quad pinning aligns got both PCM3.1 and CDR. It would be good to get access to diagrams before buying… but theoretically you could connect Mr12Volt directly to a Helix box. But that’s in theory. I’m not sure though. For you, it would be a trial and a risk.

This is the quad diagram for PCM3.1. It would be good to get the diagram for your CDR, is that is what you have…

Today, I experimented with factory mic… bought a 3.5mm plug harness wire and tested by taping into the mic 1 (+) to red wire left channel, mic 1 (-) to white wire right channel and ground of quad connector. There was a lot of interference that I assume was coming from ground, then I changed the ground wire to the mic shield wire of the quad connector to black wire ground.

I closely examined the Isudar quad harness and they tap into mic 1 (+) and ground. But they have a mono connection, while Mr12volt has a stereo connection, hence why I wired the two leads and ground.

Results after taping into mic 1 +/- and mic shield where fantastic. I was able to use factory mic to communicate with CarPlay/Siri. No interference and clear sound, including when making calls.

For final installation, I removed the pins and soldered the wires directly to the pin crimp side…

Tested while driving and results are very good.
