No, that's the only Macan that does that.

On all the others, you have to get out of your car at a stop light, run up to the front of the car and wipe them off with your sleeve.

 

Haha that is funny. I will say though that I thought the same thing when I watched that video and regretted not getting that option. Since I see that it is standard, yay for Porsche!

 

I just assumed the nozzle was fixed and fired up at the headlamp, like on most cars. Had not heard or seen that they pop up like sprinkler heads. LOL

 

Quick question:
My windshield washers suddenly stopped working. I can hear the pump when I activate the washer but there is no spray .The reservoir does not indicate low fluid level. I cannot even see where the spray nozzles are.
The rear window washers work fine.
Could someone tell me where the nozzles for the windshield are?
I feel really stupid asking this...

 

With the size of the these lamps now you need something that will give you a wider directed spray. They use a lot of fluid too. You can manually activate from the stalk, but they also automatically spray I think every 5th time that you spray the windshield.

 

It is standard on all Macan's..

But I never used headlight washers in my other cars. Perhaps will just pop them up from time to time to watch the action for fun.

 

I will NEVER use that function. But I'll be darned if it ain't the coolest thing I've seen in a while!

I think they spray when you wash the windshield and have headlights on. I try to avoid using them as they leave streaks on the hood. If I have to spray the windshield at night, I turn off the headlights briefly while I spray.

 

Call me crazy, but I think they go off by themselves if you've been using the windshield sprayer often enough.

Toronto roads have been extremely dirty with a lot of salted spray getting kicked up at me. A few times i can see blasts of water coming up from he sides of my car after I've sprayed my windshield enough times (like... 1/2 a bottle of fluid used since topping up last week).

Maybe I have clumsy fingers and am activating it... but maybe it's programmed?

 

From memory the manual says that every 10th time you wash the windows when the lights are on, the headlamp washer activates.

 

where is there a manual button on the wiper stalk to turn the headlight jets on?

I was having trouble cleaning my window the other day as the pattern of the jets was just missing portions of the window so I pumped the spray a few times and that caused the headlight washer to go on.

I like the idea of shutting the lights off because it sure does make a mess of a clean car.

 

It's a circular button on the bottom of the windscreen wiper/washer stalk.

 

Oh, and btw, I want to marry that girl in the video. Wow.

My X5 has headlight washers that pop out when you press the windshield washer button. It does not wash the headlights all the time but after couple times you press the button.

Just for clarification. I understand that you can trigger the headlight sprayers to activate manually, but if the wipers are on, does the above instruction posted by @gobobbie mean that the headlights get sprayed every ten wipes of the windshield wipers? Sorry but I am confused.

This is one option I never use. I have it on my Boxster S. One day I got my car washed and did a Zaino job, it looked beautiful. I accidentally pressed the headlight washer button and got sudsy windshield washer fluid all over the front of my car. I didn't need that!

 

I think Porsche should leave it out for a cleaner look and I don't even use them because of water spots.

 

If driving in an area with a lot of flying insects these washers can help . For example a summer drive through the Florida Everglades to the west coast of the state will cake the front end of the car with insects . I didn't go there this year but would need to use them if i had.

 

Minimise water spots by buying concentrate washer liquid and mixing it with softened and filtered water.

I have a water softener/filter plumbed into my garage and use that for final rinse when washing.

Also I use it to hose off the car before putting it in the garage if I have been using the headlight washer

 

OP: I suppose you don't use your windshield washers either due to spotting? And I guess you don't drive in rain or snow due to spotting either?

Personally I prefer to see and be seen over trying to keep my vehicle in concours condition.. Its an SUV, not a Pebble Beach Concours entry. I get pride of ownership, but this is a bit extreme no?

 

No i don't use windshield washers when it is raining and we don't have snow in NorCal.

Should be an option like the orange reflectors. I am just glad those are not in the headlights.

I've had headlight washers in all my cars and never used them once.

 

I haven't had a need to use them but glad there are there for some of the times listed above. As for the cleaner look, I think Porsche did a great job integrating them into the headlight housing. Yes, once you know that they are there in the corner its obvious but I'd have to guess that if asked most people would say the Macan didn't even have washers.

 

I believe most, if not all, European countries require washers with xenon (and probably LED) headlights. Up until very recently, BMWs with either headlight came with washers. Seems BMW now charges $300 for them. I guess they took a page out of the Porsche playbook. Also, in Porsche's case, the washer is integral to ythe headlight assembly.

 

You are correct. Washers and self leveling are required for xenon headlights. Even in Canada, and because of harmonized requirements, the US too.

 

There is no legal requirement for washers and self leveling on any headlights in the US.

 

I used it once during the Winter to clear the salt residue off the headlights. It worked ok.Just make sure it's not too cold as to freeze on the lights.

 

I regularly travel over the Sierra Nevada mountains between Reno and Sacramento, often at night. When there's traffic (always) and brown winter slush on the road it takes half a gallon of washer fluid just to maintain visibility. I wouldn't buy a car without headlight washers. But that's just me:nerd:

 

I suspect you get a lot of spots driving in that stuff. OP probably wouldn't be caught dead in such conditions.

 

I don't use them either, but feel that compared to my BMWs, Porsche has done a far better (neater) job of integrating them into the front fascia of the Macan, and that they don't detract from the overall appearance.

 

You can't NOT use them. Unless you have never used your windshield washers 10 times in your ownership. Which in wintery Cowtown is hard to believe.
