New Member, first post.
Shopping for Macan S, preferably CPO 2018.
Tired of wasting time trying to get my questions answered. I will fly to any dealer in the US and drive it home to Phoenix.
My wife needs a new car and its down to two, either the Macan or a GS F-Sport.
Seriously, we are receiving far more favorable treatment at the local Lexus dealerships vs. the Porsche dealerships.
However, she is leaning more towards the Macan.

Thanks!!

Personally I wouldn’t be suckered in to buy a car because the dealer kiss my behind, and Lexus and Mercedes have nothing I like so butter me up won’t work. Honestly buying car is not that difficult at all Porsche or not; be an informed buyer, set your price, negotiate with multiple dealers and deal done. I don’t need ego trip or pleasantry, final priced is what I am after. I don’t really care to be relatable to the sales staff however I valued my relation with service advisor because I see him twice a year for my 2 Porsche.

Having just taken delivery of my S last Friday at PEC LA, I would definitely recommend going that route. You can purchase at any dealer nationwide and they will ship it to LA for delivery. The only exception are California dealerships. They can’t sell you a car and option PEC LA without charging you CA specific fees/taxes. If you’re ok paying those, then I suppose they would be willing to negotiate a deal.

What’s nice about taking delivery at PEC LA (besides the experience) is the ride back home to PHX. We spent 2 nights in Palm Springs to break up the drive and in the end racked up about 430 miles toward break-in.

I live really close to Porsche North Scottsdale, but I’m still on the fence about recommending them based on a few things that happened during the price negotiations. I’ve heard good things about Porsche Chandler, so I’d check them out and see if they’re a little less pretentious. Unfortunately, that dealership is pretty far for my taste.

Lastly, having owned 6 Lexus and 6 BMWs in the past, my new Macan is definitely on the way to being my most favorite. I’m still a new owner, so take that with a grain of salt. But it’s up there with my M3 so far.

Good luck!

Highly recommend doing a Porsche Experience Delivery if purchasing new. I had a great experience dealing with Porsche Delaware for my order. Let me know if you'd like contact info.

Buying CPO is more complicated in that you first have to track down vehicles that are spec'd how you might like. You may find a nice discount (~8-9%) on a new car with just the options you want a better overall deal and experience. I started out looking at CPOs and ended up ordering...

Cheers,
Phil

CH, did you use the porsche web site inventory search? https://nationalpreownedporsche.com/
If you know what basic features/build spec you want you could narrow it down..

I have had great experiences with Monterey Porsche. (Ray is my sales guy) we have bought a few cars from them.. Cayenne turbo/Gts/S/S, CGT, MacanS, 991, and boxsters, and do all our services with them. We were just there today looking at the new 2019 CT.. nice but $$

You will get treated a bit differently in the used car (CPO) department at most dealerships . I think part of the issue is that they do face a lot of tire kickers . If you really are ready to fly anywhere and are looking as a late model like 2018 why not just buy a new car ? There's guys here from Arizona and might even be able to suggest an avenue . Besides buying used out of state does eliminate the tax in Az but if I recall correctly it has to be from private party . Maybe someone can chime in on that .

You s/b able to get many (most ?) of your questions answered here @ MF by using the search feature & after that... posting your questions.

If your main concern is to be treated like a King by any Car Salesman, I have no suggestions for you.

Once you narrow down what you want & are shopping for price, you can do much negotiating via email from the 3 AZ dealers & any dealer in the Southwest. CA has many.

It is easier of you spec a new car.

You can read reviews on the sales staff @ Porsche Chandler here:
https://www.dealerrater.com/sales/Porsche-Chandler-Employees-106466/

But IDK if all of them also sell the used cars.

lol Not a prima donna, just basic questions, we live closest to Porsche Chandler, they are nice and polite but not very full of information.

I understand the CPO adds 2 years to factory plus unlimited miles.
After two weeks of playing phone and email tag, I learned there are extended warranties available beyond the CPO but no one can provide terms and cost.
If I purchase an extended warranty, does it have to be at the time of sale, or is Porsche like other manufacturers in regards to allowing you to purchase extended warranty any time before factory warranty expires?
If so would that be the original four year or the extra two year period of the CPO?
Does my local Porsche dealer have access to any CPO Macans I may find elsewhere in the country?
Can I change my own oil or does that void the warranty?
Has Porsche recalled vehicles for the transfer case and timing cover issues or is they still being resolved on a case by case basis?

How much can I expect to be able to deal on a CPO sticker price? For example, I've seen several at about 52, my intentions are to get out the door at 50, is this realistic?

We do own a Lexus now and have had it for 13 years. We do intend to retain the Macan for many years as well, trying to figure out the best way to plan for the future.

Thanks for your help

I suspect part of the problem is the reluctance of a buyer in a dealership to appear- overly eager

That reticence can translate into distrust by a salesman... and therefore not enough effort towards a sale.

If they know YOU are serious.... they get serious
There must be just as much distrust in the sales world as in the buyer world when the intentions aren't clear.

a possible approach....

If we can agree on a price.... I like this car

Yes, you are taxed in State of Registration.

Good idea to note the City sales tax @ different dealers near you.

For example in AZ
Scottsdale Porsche (actually across the street from Scottsdale on, Scottsdale Rd, so actually in City of Phoenix) Has total Sales tax of 8.6%

Porsche Chandler is in City of Chandler & has Total sales tax of 7.8%

Not a significant issue of buying a $100 item in one city vs. the other. Save 80¢
But if spend 100K?
Save $800
Spend 150K save $1,200.
I think this is significant when buying a Macan & very significant when buying a 911.

Search "Porsche.com"

Go to Porsche.com then under "Shopping Tools" click on "Pre-owned Car Locator" to find a car of interest to you. At your location if you aren't getting the answers you want talk to another salesperson or ask to speak to the sales manager. Typically after the salesperson does their thing and concluded you want to purchase the car you're turned over to the financial person and they will know all the warranty information to include an extended warranty which they will want to sell you.

Just bought my third CPO Porsche. Two of them over 800 miles away. Use the CPO locator as stated above and find a car you are interested in. This means you have to know the model well enough to make your choices first. Then after you get a feel for the market price of what you want start making calls. Try to determine by phone, pics, carfax, whatever else the dealer put online if the car meets your standards ( I am very picky). Then be ready to make offer and give refundable CC deposit. Fly or drive to car, check it out and drive it. If all is good do the paperwork. They will collect the tax for the state you live in. Let me just say that I wanted a white or silver GTS with less than 10K and like new condition. The closest one was 830 miles away. If you want a Macan S , they can be had much closer. Stop worrying about dealer games and your personal issues and just do it locally, it will be easier and safer IMO. $2K off asking price is very easy.I do not know the current prices of the Macan S. I had $7K taken off my dealer asking price which was mid 70s. If you get a 2018 you have a warranty till around 2023/24. How much further ahead do you want to worry about? Nothing in life is certain, enjoy the experience and privilege of being lucky enough to be able to buy a car like this.

FYI, No dealer I used would get involved in locating and getting a CPO (or used) Porsche for me.
Another thing to consider, Find out the original MSRP on car. Assuming you can get 7-8% off the price of a new one and then go down from there on the price you are willing to pay. I ll guess and say 10-13%from msrp. See if those numbers are close to working. Dealer will say no at first , but they came way down in the end.
You ll have to research that stuff too.
One dealer will say no to a price and another will say yes. Depends on lots of factors. Look at the car fax and you can determine how long the dealer has had the car. If it s been there for 3 months, good chance they ll deal more.
Let us know if you get a Porsche.

When I was shopping back in January.... I dealt with a few.... all were really good

Park Place in Texas
Manhattan Motors
Southampton in Long Island
Beachwood in Ohio

Never was dusted off....
all were very accommodating and had good service

Purchase was at Manhattan, the car got me
Southampton was very close second
At Park Place- it sold while I was talking... another salesman

Is 'Pretentious' the word you want ???

I had decent, but not great, experiences at a few dealers and then met Paul Jarrett at Gaudin Porsche in Las Vegas. He's GREAT to work with! He'll give you all the time he can, whether it will result in a sale for him or not. He truly walks the "Porsche Ambassador" talk. My wife is starting to shop for a 718 and, even though he knows we're in So Cal, he'll answer all the questions we have. And if you do buy from him, he makes it a good experience for you.

Interesting topic... My adult son owns and has owned a fair number of Porsches and when I decided to purchase another after many years he steered me to an out-of-the-way dealer that he particularly likes. Amazing experience, all 'round. From first contact, through negotiations, through tracking during shipping, through delivery and follow-up, I've not experienced better, at any time. No BS, honest, extremely accommodating. This out-of-the-way dealership is Porsche Bellingham (Bellingham, WA) and the SA is Nick Leader. I'll definitely contact Nick for my next one, too.

Buy new, have it shipped to PEC LA or PEC Atlanta

Buy from the dealer offering the best value for your money, you can have it serviced anywhere.

I bought a new 2019 Boxster GTS from Brahman Porsche in FL, gave me 8% off a new car, Atlanta PEC added $425 to the cost.

Unless you want to avoid the depreciation hit, then you settle for a car that may not be 100% your build/options.

Good Luck
