Anyone know if you can swap the internals on an old key fob to the new ones? Or otherwise get a new fob and have the dealership program it for an older vehicle?

Let me correct my previous post....the "old key" is the one used on the Macan from 2014 through 22. My 22 has the same key FOB.....it's an MK1 key. You would prefer to use a MK2 key fob. Now that I understand your question....I'm going to go out on a limb and say no way an MK2 will work on an MK1 car. Addtionally, you would have the problem of getting a new emergency key cut, if one can even have that done.

What is the difference between the MK1 and MK2 key fobs? From the pictures above I cannot see a any difference.

The main difference to me is the key ring attachment point, the newer one is more integrated into the fob than the old one. Here’s a picture that better illustrates this:

While the other Porsche models might be getting the newer fob, I don’t believe the Macan is even with the 2022 refresh. I looked at a picture I took of the fob for a 2022 base Macan I recently test drove, and it is the older key.

To add to the confusion, the key fob photos used above show a 911 silhouette on the key style the Macan uses and
an SUV silhouette on the key fob that, reportedly, NO Macan or Cayenne yet uses.

This does seem counter intuitive!

My Macan's key (gen. 1) looks like this:

Most eBay/Amazon listings for replacement FOBs have a compatibility check.so if you're just looking to replace your FOB just order one that fits. Would suggest you try and find one that is OE Porsche rather than some odd aftermarket deal.

Doubt if there is anyway to program it other than having a dealer do that. Some want just stupid $$ so if your current dealer wants more than $100 and there are other dealers in your area I would ask them what they charge. Some indy shops also have the needed programmer and charge much less.
