I'm probably just too accustomed to my Boxster but the normal interior noise level in the Macan is almost Cadillac-like with the standard glass. In addition to the $$$$, the risk of impairing cellular (and radar!) reception with the optional glass makes it a questionable feature at best.

Given the pros and cons of VW5/6, I just won't take the risk of getting a Macan with that option. I prefer to re-invest in the SC package. Thank you all once again for your advice and time!

"Thermally and noise insulated glass" is tinted?

If it is tinted, is it only the rear window?

Is there a picture comparing the one without the option and the one with the option?
In the US the rear glass is tinted ("privacy") whether one orders the option or not . I recall reading it might not be that way everywhere . With that in mind the confugurator makes the option look attractive because if the entire car were not tinted it would look like one off those vans where you see all the people. That confusion swath the configurator led me to put the option on my first two Macans and in hindsight I felt it was 2K (in total) thrown out those tinted windows .

I would so much prefer to NOT have the rear passenger glass extra tinted as a routine. Porsche gives you options for virtually everything else, why not this.

Also the option includes extra noise insulation. Once again why can't Porsche let us know how much noise is reduced in decibels !

The rear door and hatch windows are included, but not the front door windows. Don't get it unless you like the color violet. I had to have the rear doors and rear hatch windows tinted gray to reduce the hideous violet color contrast. Yuck!

I really don't understand your comment. My wife and I have been using our Macan S, with the thermal and noise reducing glass, for three and a half years now, and we haven't noticed the violet. Maybe we're just not observant, or maybe it's a polarizing sunglasses thing, or something I don't understand. In any case, no complaints from us; we got the glass for its sound-deadening properties, and that has seemed to work for us.

@studio, take a look at the first and last few pics in my gallery (link in signature block, below), to see some pics of the tinted areas.

'I also never noticed any difference in color (had it on 2 out of 5 Macans ). In fact I never noticed any benefit either . I did notice the extra cost to buy it and not one cent of it retrieved at exist .

I'd call in violet or light purple

For my second GTS I did spring for the fancy glass. For both of my cars i did have the windows tinted a little darker and the front to match the back When i had the PPF put on.

I'm in the process of deciding which options to configure, and I wonder if anyone would know the ordering code for what the UK/EU site describes as "Acoustic Insulated Laminated Glass". This would be my preferred option because I don't want to have any tinted or "privacy glass".

Thank you!

The code for the non-privacy insulated glass is VW5. You can find this by searching for the Porsche UK website, and using their configurator, and then looking at the build summary page.

Will be interesting to hear if you are able to special order that glass for your region.

Thank you for that info, much appreciated!
Indeed, we'll see if that's possible. Seems Porsche doesn't have an option for "special order" items...

If you're talking about VW5, "Thermally and Noise Insulating Privacy Glass," we ordered that for our 2018 S (which is three+ months old now). We like it, because I have hearing aids, and my wife had throat surgery which resulted in a very soft voice, so it suits our needs. The car is nice and quiet, facilitating conversation, and IMHO makes the car seem more like an equivalently priced luxury car, as opposed to a car that merely handles, goes, stops, and is suspended like it's on rails ... ya know, a blast to drive.

OTOH, we only test drove a Base and S without the glass for a few minutes, so we're not great ones for being able to compare it to Macans without this option; I think you'll need to hear from multi-Macan owners, who have or have had one of each. Also, some folks specifically like to hear the engine sounds.

For us, the car is quiet enough that we could tell the difference -- the increased noise level -- when we switched to snow tires a month or so ago. So, depends on what you want to -- or don't want to -- hear. That's the "noise" part; regarding the "thermal" part, I have no idea.
Since you ordered VW5, please, may I ask you if the glass from the front and rear doors looks the same in terms of tinting? I assume that is not “privacy glass” with dark tint, but still I wonder if the rear ones are darker than the front ones. Thanks!

The front has less tinting (or perhaps none at all) than the back. Here is an early pic, from my gallery:
