I was interested in the new EV Macan but now feel disappointed after today's reveal. The only impressive announcement was the supposed, potential maximum range. The increased size, weight and high prices have put me off considering it as a replacement for my current GTS.

A few important takeaways for me...

1. Base model slower than an S or GTS yet more expensive.
2. Seats are 3 cm LOWER than the ICE cars. I thought this was an SUV not a X-over ?
3. HUD option $2500+ USD ($4000+ AUD) ! Only one type of HUD with augmented reality.
4. Full leather package does not go all the way down the door insides, meaning less leather coverage.
5. Rear wiper blade not standard.
6. 2 inches longer than the ICE cars with longer wheelbase yet no increase in rear legroom ?

I think I'll hang on until an e-hybrid shows up !

Just found this article...

The new all-electric 2024 Porsche Macan is set to spawn a broad family that will include a more affordable single-motor/rear-wheel drive variant

Seriously underwhelmed. Design is not distinctively Porsche. Could be almost any EV producer, like BYD, etc. It looks a bit washed out, no real character and obviously built to reduce air drag. All of this happens in a "take it or leave it market push" (in EU and some other countries) and the current ICE is not planned to be upgraded... A huge bet on the future.

My parents live almost 380 miles away and I do not plan for two or three charging stops (probably one hour each) with a baby on board. Given the unstable energy situation in some European countries the timing to jump full scale on EV seems like a fatal attack on one of the most popular Porsche models. Unless they can attract completely new customer segments I don't see how current ICE Macan owners will make the shift to EV. I am not against EVs in general but they are not mature yet and they are significantly more expensive - why? They are cheaper to make.

Before solid state batteries can help solve the range issues (and low temperature limitations) there is no way for me to make the switch. And "Joyride22 😅" would have to become "Grumpyride25 😓".

...Agree with you, who like the design, even though it comes a little bit like a used piece of soap, originally shaped as an ICE Macan. Anyway, better in my eyes than what BMW with their "transformer toy" design proposes...what I don't like is the somewhat visible thick battery pack line, could have been hidden better by the door's shape according to my taste...and the "strange" lower front spoiler protruding from the silhouette, maybe the offroad spoiler option cures this?

What bothers me, and I am not a fan of Tesla, is the lack of spirit in technical data sheet performance. Reach and power maybe OK, but both version's acceleration on paper is not what I had hoped for. After sleeping over it, I came to conclusion that probably the rear 2-speed gearbox (Taycan) is missing, in both Audi and Bosch engines, to give the heavy chassis/battery brick the necessary punch to buzz...at least for my pleasure when spending that much more money.

After purchasing and enjoying the Audi E-tron . . . which was a fun disappointment . . . . I mean you mash the pedal twice and get rocketed . . . after that it's "just an electric car". Frankly few folks need to go from 0-60 in 3 seconds in daily use. The styling of the EV Macan seems to have lost the sensual shapes and curves that first drew me in. I am not a fan of the goofy wheels (and I am certain there is a reason . . . . probably the regenerative braking or maybe Tonka has some dirt on Porsche) . . . but they don't do it for me.

Porsche has had plenty of time to get this right. We have threads going back several years about the imminent release of EV and demise of ICE. I note some sloppy flaws in the configurator . . . or perhaps it really does have a 87 inch heads up display . . . but charging a couple thousand $$$ and then adding that disclaimer about polarized sunglasses had me seeing $$ flittering away in the breeze. C'mon . . . . the heads up displays in both our 2022 Audis are fine. I don't recall, which makes me think it was not a memorable number, what they cost but they provide what I want/need and are adjustable for brilliance and hight on the windshield. I need "augmented reality" like a kick in the shins. The difference between augmented and demented seems vague.

I have not yet started looking at things like weight yet but after a career of trying to find ways to shave ounces off racing motorcycles (we did so good that we had to add "parasite weight" to come up to minimum weight and we were awarded "best handling motorcycle in the world" that year. We also put the first inverted forks on a motorcycle which drew lots of attention and was widely copied) and knowing the role weight plays in handling . . . It's going to take some time . . . putting together some funny numbers and ignoring some laws of physics to convince myself regarding the cost/benefit of the added weight (if there is any . . again, I've not gone there yet).

There is a reason that some of the major factories are beginning to abandon the EV idea . . . at least in spirit since they are required, by the government (arguably the worst engineering team imaginable) to produce some quantity. My personal bias is influenced by my chief engineer (top of his class at M.I.T} who enthusiastically bought a Taycan and got rid of it 6 months See you at the Kopp later and watching the better half drive a $100,000+ E-tron with the windows down in 97°F weather and 70% humidity from range anxiety. The Audi has about 220 mile full charged range . . . she drives from Palm Beach (across the street from Mar-A-Lago) to the farm in Wellington (about 12 miles) and runs some errands . . . she never even uses 50% of the range but seems gripped with constant anxiety. Part of my enjoyment of a car is the comfort and relaxation . . . it's a sanctuary. The EV is not . . . again, my personal opinion.

I think there is a place for EV's such as public vehicles . . . vehicles with a natural range profile of 100-200 miles a day with reliable access to charging that works.

At this point . . . . as much fun as those popsicle colors look . . . . I am going to keep an OPEN MIND. Some of the folks here will drive them and more information, real information . . . not based on "what I think". . . will evolve and we will learn more.

Till then . . . . "fill'er up".

PS: Does anyone know what this cybersecurity law nonsense is all about which will prevent the sale of ICE Macan in Europe?
No more Macan deliveries past July. It's awkward that it's so hard to comply with it but it leads to a 100% EV strategy as of Spring this year. Big bet!

Porsche has always done model design evolution better than anyone, making subtle design and performance improvements that are almost universally lauded and desired out of the gate . . . until now.

This is uncharted territory for Porsche and its best-selling vehicle, BY FAR. The problem is not a matter of consumers simply adapting to changes in design architecture. THE PROBLEM is apparent and not unique to Porsche . . . very few consumers want EVs for numerous reasons mentioned in this thread and other more important reasons not allowed to be mentioned on this forum.

It APPEARS legislators are in control of the market direction and automakers are ‘trapped’ between the legislators and consumers . . . however, ultimately, the consumers control BOTH the legislators and the market.

Porsche APPEARS to be hedging the best they can in the current legislative environment, nonetheless, walking dangerously close to the middle of the road with their best-selling vehicle . . . and we all know what happen when you walk in the middle of the road.

Porsche and other automakers are going to have pick a lane quickly and I can say with certainty the ONLY path to survival is – and will always be – in the consumer lane.

Change is on the horizon and EVs are not part of the future equation.

Remember the motto, ‘drill baby drill’ . . . you are going to hear and witness it a LOT very soon. ICE will be ultimately be replaced, but not by EVs and not any time soon.

The resale/trade value of my GTS just went up, UP, UUUUPP! No interest in the Macan EV at this point. I can't imagine a Porsche without the burble and bark of the exhaust in Sport mode.

You missed you can by Sport Eletric Sound for $490. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fascinating that no one mentioned reduced maintenance/service issues or perhaps even lack thereof. 0
Sorry, we are all busy looking for a charging station. hehe

After looking at it again today it's the flat front end, bulky c-pillar and flat rear that really makes the design look bulky compared to the ICE version.

Not surprised about the pricing as Porsche has been slowly making their cars more and more expensive as they believe people will pay a premium for the brand and in pursuit of improved profits. Always thought entry into Porsche vs. other luxury cars was low to begin with.

Do love the exterior/interior options. Spec'd a green exterior/tan interior base and after adding all the options it came out over $100k. Mine as well do a Turbo at that point.

Was going to wait for gen 2 version but think I'm going keep my 20 S with 21k miles until it dies now. Haven't had any issues with it and still a joy to drive. Mine as well put $ to a 911.

I genuinely cannot understand anyone willing to spend £100k (more if you want a decent spec) on one of these new EV Macans. In the UK the Taycan EV models are losing half of their value in less than a year. Porsche dealers have so many new Taycans that they can't sell, even at massively discounted prices. What makes Porsche think they can sell the new Macan ???

There will be people who will have bought outright but I think most will have been bought by PCP, that way you know the value being put on the car at the end of your term. In the case of my brother his is valued at £62K after 3 years which is a lot more than half its value and genuinely very few car retain more than 50% after 3 years.

So disappointed… tbh I am never interested in EV vehicles but can anyone tell me difference of its appearance between Tycan and Macan, except ride higher in Macan? Macan front back side wherever just keep reminding me of Tycan. Disappointed.

Went through the normal routine from Porsche configuration website even not going to put an EV in garage. Just imagine if this would have been an ICE Macan launch, not impressed with either interior or exterior design, especially with relocation of shift lever, and plastic fender molding. After digesting several high quality videos from all angles and design details, it's very "Not Porsche". Both front and rear bumpers have uncanny valley lines which don't flow well with overall silhouette. (e.g. Turbo rear bumper with extra air inlets) There is already range anxiety on EV, not sure how much massage chair will ease that tension on the go!

Not sure if Porsche has been hallucinating with Cybersecurity Law to kill Gas-powered Macan, potentially shooting itself to the foot with ChatGPT!

Still preferred all the ICE Macan styles through the generations so far, if it's going to the last generation of ICE Macan, it will be a vintage and collection for all the fortunate owners!

The new Macan EV is like the Taycan and Cayenne had a child. Some will like its looks others won’t, I prefer its exterior to that of the old Macan which was frankly looking very dated, this is much cleaner and modern looking. The interior I am less convinced because it’s too traditional and in keeping with the old car, you look at all the new EVs hitting the market and this already looks dated inside but this is me speaking without actually sitting inside it.

^I think Porsche needs a mid model in the range, in between both current models in both price, performance and standard kit. That way its price is closer to the GTS but still offering a significant performance gain.

The thing is with a wheelbase that’s within 2mm of the Cayenne and with its seats front and rear seating a little lower than before you are actually getting Cayenne interior space from a significantly cheaper price. Think about it, this Turbo that is the UK costs £95K has the performance and space inside of the Cayenne Coupe Turbo-E Hybrid that’s £132,600.

The car is actually value for money but what Porsche has done is move it to a price point beyond where it previously sat at and pushed it out of the price of its core buyers. ☹

I was saying from the beginning that the Macan EV was going to be $110,000 EV at entry level with fees and taxes. I am not one but surprised. Anyone who thinks an EV from Porsche was going to be the same price as a base Macan ICE is delusional. I also knew that you were not going to get max rebates in the USA because it was my understanding that all parts have to come from the USA for that to happen.

Has anyone driven one yet?

I watched the launch and pretty much what I expected, more cost, more weight. I was pleased with the battery/range and hope they put the tech in the new Taycans. I won’t be buying one, but if I did buy an EV it would be a Taycan (older) when they get to realistic prices, but it would be my third vehicle behind two ICE Porsches 😀

I want to see that battery range in the middle of the winter in places like Canada or MN. Oh, but we are going through global warming. Never mind.

I’m right with you and I can afford one!
I understand the build quality of Porsche since I am a Porsche owner.
However, this is not worth double the price of my Model Y (which I’m obsessed with)!

Porsche took a long time to release the Macan EV and I'm sure it will be an amazing vehicle. But I too am very disappointed in the bland design, the model choices, and the price. The price is particularly irking since $100-130K for a decently equipped model is nuts - especially for an SUV that has been so popular and within many people's budgets.

I sold my Macan GTS in 2022 and decided to get an EV for my next purchase. I waited and hoped the Macan EV would be available shortly. Not to happen.

I now own two of the competitor's EV's which have well under 3.7s zero to 60 times. I have the Tesla Model Y Performance (good) and my wife has the Genesis GV60 Performance (fantastic).

Hasn't Porsche seen the new Genesis GV70 EV? Pure luxury and it looks more like a Macan than the new Macan! $68-75K for a 10 year warranty, heads up display, cross traffic, 360 parking camera, ventilated seats and more. Of course it is not a Porsche, but after 8 Porsches, I can't see a Macan EV in my future. I'm sad.
