Hi @marcr,

My right side is also stuck, pretty much like yours, and I can’t remove it. Do you have by any chance a video of removing the entire right piece? I can’t remove the piece close the door also.
Im almost giving up about this project. I already damaged one of the vents.

Besides that, how was the installation of the board in the PCM?

Went to two places, a Porsche shop and an electronics shop that installI radios/gps, and they didn’t want to touch it, even with me willing to pay to help me out.
I could release the top part, but not the bottom.
I tried once more 10 min ago, and I guess I broke the the vent grill, and it didn’t come up.

Putting it back together

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post about my dash removal saga: re-installation. When I finally got them off, a number of the metal clips had folded in on themselves (that's why it was so hard to get off). I needed to replace them and ensure if I ever had to take this off again, it would be much easier. Here's what I did:

1) I bought replacement clips for the ones that got mangled. Volkswagen part 8T0853107. I was able to order them from a VW dealership in town.

2) I used a pair of needle nosed pliers to lessen the angle of the part of the clip that grips the peg. This makes the clips have far less grip.

3) I treated the clips and pegs with a Silicone based spray lubricant. (this was @Teddis's idea). I sprayed it on a q-tip and applied liberally.

Thankfully, I haven't had to remove them since, but hopefully 2 & 3 make it much, much easier.

Hey all, just reviving an old thread but still relevant information.

I too am having a nightmare removing a vent 2015 Macan Turbo, passenger vent. Have been using a tool with 90' hook, going for something steeper next, for example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DHFKKN...07DHFKKNJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_SWW49FEE130DP7WTGDBX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Or https://www.amazon.co.uk/Funtasica-...rid=2GF087MNFANGP&keywords=vw+3438&qid=1673447994&sprefix=vw+3438,aps,56&sr=8-5

Just for those still searching for help.

Note, AVOID the GT4 DIY video who uses a sharp pick to do the job, I was following this and super risk of damage as it's sharp and not enough leverage!

Seems I have major issue removing items, the sunvisors were just as hard and I broke those clips too - I guess this is first generation with the old german engineering strength :D :D

Well, brief update - The Spring Puller as advertised above was tough enough for the job - hilarious videos of people doing this with weak pullers, must have gotten lucky.

I did unfortunately do some minor damage to the leather, mostly from pressure to leverage, hopefully it'll rebound on it's own but if not a new trim panel is in order.

Also - for those doing this for Retrofit Carplay, if it wasn't for that vent, and a crappy clip that's now going to rattle in my glovebox I'd highly recommend it. You may be better taking to a car audio place that is experienced doing this. I'm fairly handy with my hands and it tested me a few times.

Also, I had the Sinairyu model - Not sure I'd recommend it just yet. Not sure how others compare, there is some lag in the screen response, that could also be that the screen wasn't designed for swipe motions and the microphone is absolute trash. I may try another microphone to see if we get some improvement, but currently it cannot pick up any command and the system crashes - Note with low voltage (engine not running) it did cause my PCM to shut down several times which of course caused some panic.

Good luck to those that venture on!

Oh - One other thing

WARNING WARNING WARNING

The ribbon cable to the screen, I was careful and delicate throughout (I've built many a computer in my time!) but the ribbon connector lifted right all the pins. Maybe it was just mine, but if you are doing this be very aware they may come off with the slightest touch. Once the ribbon is in and clamped down it pulls into the connectors, so once clipped it's fine, but a pain in the arse and you need to be super delicate not to upset the pins.

Also noted that the ribbons supplied in my kit were seemingly a white metal, not the gold that was OEM - This may need to oxidisation problems later on!

After struggling to remove the air vents on my 2016 Macan, I read I should be using a hook to reach in and grab the back of the vent so as to not damage it. There are some DIY instructions to build one and I have seen a few for sale for $20-$60. Then I found some hooks made to install trampoline springs that worked of me and only cost $5.99 for two!

Not an affiliate, I don't earn anything if you buy from the link...just a hopefully helpful suggestion. I'd offer to sell one, but would be cheaper to buy two from Amazon with free shipping.
