1. Release the safety clip by pressing from the wheel housing trim with a screwdriver. Press the light out of the wheel housing area from behind. From Owners Manual p325.
Continue to Step 5.

2. Or, if you are having difficulty using previous step, like I did :crying:, remove 3 screws from wheel well.

3. Lift up wheel well liner to access back of marker. With a flashlight, look for the metallic pin that locks the marker in place.

4. Using a screwdriver push the pin at the point shown by the red arrow. Side marker should pop out immediately.

5. Lift the wire to unplug the cable.

6. Plug the cable to the Bumperplugs painted side marker. Push the marker into place. Congratulations! Now do the other side and you're done ;).

I tried it. Without prior experience it's a PITA :). It's like shooting in the dark, and I didn't want to break anything.

Yes, a little fiddly but if you turn the wheel out of the way so you have a clear working space and use as thick a Philips screw driver as fits the hole it lines up with the spring and you can feel it give slightly at the same time the lamp starts to pop out.

I tried some different LED bulbs so did it 2 or 3 times.

While I get the fact you don't like the yellow, isn't that taking away a safety feature at night, just one less way for people to see the car? I'm on the fence on this, but I do appreciate your post and the step by step should I fall off the fence as I usually wind up doing.

It's for those who likes the clean look without the amber/orange marker. Side markers as far as I am aware are not required in Europe. At least cars don't have them, obviously larger vehicles do.

"Conclusions

The lamps have little or no effect on fatalities. Most fatal nighttime angle collisions involve one of the vehicles traveling at high speed or both vehicles traveling at similar speeds. In the first case, by the time that the high-speed driver sees the other vehicle's side markers, there is no longer room to stop or substantially slow down; in the second case, each driver can see the other vehicle's headlamps more easily than the side marker lamps."

Interesting report and even more interesting summary above.

As they say - Lies, **** Lies and Statistics.

I guess you accidentally missed the other 3 of the 4 conclusions and the summary out:

"Side marker lamps have significantly reduced the number of nighttime angle collisions that occur in the United States."

"The lamps have significantly reduced the number of nonfatal injuries that occur in nighttime angle collisions, because they reduce the severity of accidents and/or prevent them entirely."

"Side marker lamps are a cost-effective safety device."

I put much brighter amber LED bulbs in mine but would prefer a clear option with amber LED's. Soon if EBay is anything to go by.

I have mine blacked out with tint but the nighttime visibility of them is amazing. It's almost like a one way mirror; they look black, but you can't really tell there's tint on them at night. As an aside, this also cost about $200 less than the bumper plugs.

Let me contact a few business associates in China. Just kidding.

However, I suspect this will come from there, if ever. It should be good business.

So naturally I fell off the fence and am getting these from bumper plugs.

But let's not forget we are dealing with a dummy. Is the product I will be receiving the complete unit or just a painted lens?

Thank you for helping the needy.

Complete unit.

Wow, you guys kill me but in a good, funny way. No offense meant in any way. But I had the pleasure of serving (displeasure? Lol) in the trial part of NYS Supreme Court for the better part of 33 years. I've probably taken in excess of 250 motor vehicle accident cases and discussed the details of hundreds of others with my colleagues. Never have I heard of a mod to a car, especially one as minor as this, being a cause and/or ever being mentioned. Now I guess there's a first time for everything. But I'd say chances of being hit by lightning are about as great.

"Your Honor, my client pleads guilty to side marker modding in the second degree . We ask for this court's leniency as of course my client, is a member of the Macan Forum".

Charges dismissed !

ok, I give up, I scratched up the inside of the wheel well trying to get the damned lining out, then I could not even with a flashlight see any metal clip. I should have taken a photo before I put everything back together and said f*ck it. In the official method, does the screwdriver get inserted perpendicular to the lense or from the REAR of the car through the hole with the screwdriver facing forward ? Even if the latter, with the lining pulled back I saw NO metal.
WHAT A PAIN IN THE A$$. I think I'm going to stay orange. I've had the car since Dec '14 and still no clears with amber bulbs made.

you need the right tools for the job. I couldn't accomplish it by pressing a screwdriver against the well liner so I removed the clips and used a plastic trim removal tool. You can buy a set of them on Amazon for like five bucks or so.

http://www.amazon.com/TCBunny%C2%AE-Portable-Radio-Removal-Installer/dp/B00SDFIWGS/ref=sr_1_5?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1456968688&sr=1-5&keywords=trim+removal+tool

Once you carefully pry the liner away, the clip is flush with the fender well. Use a flashlight and you will see it. You then press the screwdriver straight into it and it will come right out.

If I can do it, anyone can and it took me about five minutes on each side.

This is definitely not worth all this trouble. I'm going to get my refund from BumperPlugs and the way the issues with my car are mounting, I will sell it and not look back. Porsche is too full of themselves. I don't want to know what the maintenance on this car is going to cost after the warranty. Buying it was a huge mistake.

You don't know my dealership. They salivate at the opportunity to rape someone with their hourly rate.

I will borrow a friend's trim tools if I decide to try it again but at this point I've lost the interest in painted markers, I would have preferred clear with amber bulbs.

If I keep this car will start going to the independent that cares for my 993.

The method in the owners manual worked just fine for me. Takes about 10 seconds to loosen the lamp. Helps if you turn the wheel out of the way

Just use as thick a screwdriver as fits the hole and it will be aligned with the clip as the hole is designed to do just that. A thin screwdriver can wiggle in many directions. A thick Phillips is best. Look at a picture of the clip. Then you know what you will feel at the end of the screwdriver.

Also you don't have to pull the connector or wire lock. The bulb socket turns 90 degrees to loosen from the lamp.
