Hello,

The multi-function display in my Turbo displays the warning:
Gearbox fault possible no R-gear Possible to drive on

Working only 1-3-5-7 gear, the reverse gear does not function.

Did anyone have the same 'adventure'?

Unfortunately, my warranty was finished 2 months ago.

That is the sad part of the Macan story. Catastrophic repair expense on wear items that should last at least 150,000 miles but don't is going to cause a real problem for the used Macan market. No one is going to want to keep this car out of warrenty. Such a great car too....Porsche doesn't get the SUV market.
I just sold mine after I fixed it. No more lottery for me.
If I can help...ended up fixing mine myself, I will be glad to do whatever I can.

My Macan S with both Engine Control Fault and Possible no R Gear message, would not even move an inch with transmission at D and engine RPM stays at idle regardless of accelerator pedal position. Car now at our local dealer here and awaiting their feedback. It all started a couple of months ago with slight transmission jerking during transmission downshift to 1. Car just did over 49k km and never did launch control on this particular car.
Just curious to know if other Porsche PDK suffer the same fate as Macan.

Interesting thread… I have a 2017 Macan w/ 45k miles. Single owner. Always serviced at the dealership and the PDK has always been serviced on time. My car is shifting hard from first to second gear around 10-12mph and a noticeable clunk can be heard from underneath. It seems to only happen when the car is warmed up. I took it to the dealer and they said they can feel the clunk and have felt it on other Macan’s and they don’t exactly know what causes it but they have been fine. They checked the gearing and it looked fine and there are no faults. I didn’t have a loaner, I was just waiting in the lobby so they told me to monitor it for now. I have an extended warranty... 50k service is due for next month, so I guess I’ll take it in for that and schedule a loaner so they can take a closer look.

Anyone in here experienced transmission issues after getting a replacement? It started with the gearbox failure, so the mechatronics was replaced. Still had issues so transmission was replaced. Repair time was just short of a year. Apparently Covid and parts etc was the issue. The car was returned and I went for an oil change 6 months later. Service department moving kinda slow for an oil change. Car was held for 3 days with zero communication. I decide to pick it up and you guessed it, I was told there is a trans issue again. Trans pan gasket was said to be the culprit. That was replaced then finally they say the trans will need repair. So tranny #2!! Seems odd just looking for advice. Is this fixable? 2015 S 70k miles.

Hello my 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo has relayed me a message on my dash board, I has stated this “transm. fault poss. No R gear. Drive on poss. I was able to continue driving but the would abruptly shift 7-5-3-1 as I’d drive. Once I was able to get to a safe location my car was not able to drive…reverse didn’t work nor did drive. I had it towed to Porsche of west palm beach on a Sunday in which they’re service department was closed. The following Monday I got a Macan loaner 2020 base model. They won’t be to diagnose the my vehicle until Friday. To diagnose cost $295.00. Im very worried because i heard horror stories of the transmission also I heard that very costly. Although I heard that a pdk reset or software could help im extremely nervous. This is my first Porsche and I hope it isnt as bad as it seems. Plus I’m very new to Porsches. Do you guys have any idea what may have caused the issue also what the outcome can be?

It’s a 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo
106k miles
Always serviced
Very well kept and no aftermarket bolt on modifications.
Not within warranty
Will give an update on situation on what happens

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Below is a link to an earlier thread on this topic.

Several possibilities. Could be a bad sensor, or an issue with the transmission valve body (also known as the mechatronics unit).

The dealership will have to see what error codes they can find and go from there.

Best of luck getting it resolved, and let us know what you find out.

Sorry to hear this. There are a few threads you can look into here and on Rennlist about transmission issues and possible sources. Hard to know though until it's diagnosed. From what I understand, the dealer can only do a costly full replacement although an independent shop may be able to replace individual parts for much cheaper.

Glad to hear you got a rental car in the meantime.

If you do get the dreaded $20k replacement quote, give Brian at Above and Beyond Performance a call. He is a certified Porsche technician and they are 5 minutes away from Porsche WPB. They were recommended to me by Jon from Flat 6 as a Porsche specialist shop.

I haven't been there yet but I've reached out on a few upcoming maintenance items and they would be my first call since they have many good reviews.

Other options a bit further may be USP Motorsports / Euro Car Care in Coral Springs, they are a well known Audi/VW/Porsche shop and since the transmission is an Audi unit, that may be a good choice. Also there is TuneRS Motorsports in Coral Springs. A bit of a tow from WPB but would be worth it if the dealer comes back with a costly quote.

Best of luck and keep us updated.

They had sent me the bill I declined all the repair recommendations (they removed the fault code so the car was able to drive normally) , went to independent Porsche specialist shop and they said to replace my engine mounts since my engine mounts were broken, and fixing the mounts tremendously reduce engine rattle which will reduce the transmission/engine misalignment which is what caused the fault to appear in the first place. Once the engine mounts were replaced they said to replace the mechatronic system just to be safe even though it may no need to be changed. The engine mounts seemed to be the main culprit in the situation since the mounts have been broken before the transmission fault incident. I didn't realize it was broken until i drove the loaner Macan and noticed that when i start the car an incredible rattle would come on. I spent at most $300-$400 USD on the mounts and $300 USD for the labor to install. Now my car is running fine and I'm thinking about replacing the mechatronic system but it isn't giving me any problems so far.

(FOR ANYONE WHOS IN MY SITUATION JUST KNOW PORSCHE WILL SAY AND DO ANYTHING FOR YOU TO BUY ANOTHER NEW PORSCHE BECUASE THEY WERE BS MY CAR INSPECTION!)

Wow, what a story, how fortunate for you and very good to know, thanks for sharing that.

Which shop did you go to?

Hi Folks,

I have a 2016 Porsche Macan S with 82k miles on it. A couple of days back I had the transmission fault message appear. It doesn't reappear after restarting the car and the car drives fine.
After having it scanned at a local indi the PIWIS returns "P17E100 2nd gear actuator - mechanical fault" code in the vehicle memory. At the time of scanning the vehicle was driving normally and all PDK parameters read normal on PIWIS. The indi shop did not have much idea on the error code. Does anyone have any suggestions/experience with this code?

Well it could be that you nay need a new mechatronic system(about $1500-$3000), that transmission fault scares the **** out of me every time id see it on my dash.
or your PDK system may need to be reset.

No custom alarm system. It seems that the problem is with a « transponder » inside the car, or at least that’s what the Porsche specialist (indie garage) thought. We’ve been waiting to get the replacement part since the car stopped working (it’s a public holiday where we are) and today we got a call saying he couldn’t even open the car anymore, not even with mechanical key. I’ve seen some posts in other forums saying it could be the battery, but we honestly don’t know anymore… Porsche in the region has a 2 month waiting list to take the car & not being super helpful…

Hello !

My wife purchase a pre-owned 2015 macan S from a private dealer 2020. It had 50k mileage when purchase she’s at 100k and now having serious issues. We experience the “gearbox fault, possible no r to drive on” which had the revs running high and skipping gears and jerking forward and back. From that experience it drive normal the next day but we advise or indie dealer but they say they don’t have the right tech to access the ECU only Porsche can do that to figure out what’s going on—We always kept the regular maintenance to run smoothly but

Just recently on her way to work my wife got multiple messages at the same time saying “Gearbox Loss” in red and “stop/start deactivation” “no all wheel drive/rear wheel drive permitted” which is exhausting and stressful to deal with given I come from a BMW family and never have to deal with transmission issues before so it’s scary to know this can possibly be an expensive mechanic job that’s worth more than what the car is value. I’m almost done paying it off but what do I do going forward? I’ve read forums this cost $20K for a new unit and I heard it can possibly be other issues within the transmission that can cost waaay less but I’m just preparing for any news. Im surprise Porsche Macan have ongoing transmission issues! I can never look at these trucks the same. We set up appointment to take it to the Porsche dealer and get their take.

at this point im considering a trade-in

any advice help!

Sounds like you need to find a new indie shop. I would ask for recommendations in your area on this forum. This will help you be better prepared once you get the diagnosis.

First step, sounds like you need a new indie shop. Ask for recommendations in your area on this forum. Once you have that you'll be better prepared to move forward when you get the diagnosis from the Porsche dealer and their estimated cost to repair the car. Then get an estimate from an indie. Given the mileage on the car using rebuilt parts would probably make sense. Good luck.
