Sold my Audi SQ5 a few weeks ago (had Q5 before that) and placing order for Macan Turbo.
How do I fill in the time gap?
Well I'm retired but do need some wheels as my wife still works and uses her car. So I bought a 2002 VW Polo 1.4, 5 speed manual 150K klms on the clock.
Haven't had so much fun actually driving in a long while.
But still looking forward to delivery - probably not till Jan/Feb as I want a couple of options available from Oct/Nov builds.
Going to test drive on the 17th.

Traded my 2011 Audi A6 to Porsche dealer when I ordered my Macan S. I have had not had a car since February, running around on my BMW R1200RT motorcycle and starting to get well over the motorcycle thing (fun when I was 17, not so much fun as an aged man). At any rate my Macan arrives in dealership on the 3rd of September..........the joy of having a four wheeler again.

Cheers

I went on my dealer's expression of interest list mid March. They still haven't asked me to confirm my order configuration but expect an October delivery. Should I be worried?

Call them and ask when your car will be locked, and that you have decided on all the options now. I'd say they have no allotment yet, and once they do, then they will build it. At this point they likely have been promised a certain number, but they are not yet in the system as an allocation. 3 months before delivery they will need the build entered in the system.

So an October delivery would require a July actual build order?

My dealer told me that I could make changes until end of April. Yep, no problem, I'm pretty well sure I will not change the spec.

Then I began thinking about DAB radio (posted my query in my intro to this forum!) and decided to add it in. By the time I called him in 3rd week May, nope could not be done, the car's been locked away. I asked if there was DAB as an accessory post delivery? He called back in late May to advise still looking but probably not, BUT he did advise my car has gone into the Body Shop.

So by now, I expect my Macan is finished! :):):) Looking good for August delivery!

BTW, This wait time isn't too bad. I put a EOI deposit in March 2013 for the new Alfa Romeo 4C. The UK guys (think Right Hand Drive) had full pricing and serious deposit details by middle of 2013. In Australia? Nothing! There was a delay in production but UK started getting their cars early this year. In Australia? Still no info. It's now June and we still have no final pricing, no specs and no delivery date. Good thing I've got the Macan to keep the faith in automotive manufacturers!

which city in Australia? are you sure the dealer is telling the truth?

which city and dealer? What model did you order? He is pulling your leg to get the order perhaps??

I am asking because in second half of Jan 2015 I was called up by a dealer in Melbourne (PCM?) and he was quoting Jan-Feb 2015 order with a Nov-Dec 2015 delivery and diesel being additional 1 month wait over Petrol S and Turbo.

I read that the waiting list in USA seems to be shrinking but its still closer to 6 months there but in UK and Australia (both driving on same side of the road) the waiting list is closer to 9-12 months at present time (i.e. Feb 2015).

In Europe the waiting list seems to be shorter but still well over 3-4 months.
This is just based on various entries I have seen in various forums, so its very unscientific.

I am waiting for the waiting list to drop to maximum of 3-4 months (or less) before I consider to place my order for petrol S and if I need a new car and the Macan waiting list at that time is still over 4 months then I will just buy another brand.

I do predict the waiting list to drop dramatically by the end of 2015, as the "wow" factor for Macan wears out.

I am with Acid.
Keen to see the new Mercedes GLC as well. The AMG might be too expensive but definitely will be up there.
I love the Macan for my wife, but wont be playing the games Porsche Australia wants us to play by artificially creating excess demand by importing about 1/2 as many as they can sell.
It enables them to charge a not negotiable $7,800 dealer delivery and nonsense like that.
Reminds of Mercedes back in 1998 with the ML 320, waiting list were nearly up to 18months originally. I bought a 2000 model brand new off the floor with no waiting list.

Digger

Here is what I have learned:
My wait time for petrol S is 6 months, approx. The dealer does not know exactly, and their advice from their source keeps changing. In Australia, once it's locked in, delivery for S is about 9 weeks, plus or minus a week or so depending on availability of shipping.

I find it difficult to believe that Porsche Australia would forego sales by limiting availability to 50% of demand to keep up dealer charges. It is my information they will take as many as they can get. Do you know different? We can all only go on what information is available to us.

I cannot understand why one would wait 3 or 4 months and then order if wait time were 3 or 4 months, but not if it were 6 months. The market for Porsche is America. Porsche AG are going to keep that market well supplied, while Australia is peanuts. We are lucky that the wait is only 6 months. Some may be lucky and get it for less, if for example the dealer has a cancellation and can sell that slot, which apparently is not uncommon, and hence wait time could be only 3 or 4 months. You could be lucky.

If I thought another brand was near as good as a Porsche, for me, I would get it straight away. I suggest the wait time for the GLC will be an eye opener. I was quoted 12 months for a GLA45 and 6 months for a GLA250. Demonstrators are much easier to get, but all carry a long list of largely unwanted extras.

I wish you good luck with your eventual selection. I guess it is a bit of a gamble for all of us.

i think the Macan delivery dates in Australia (and elsewhere?) is a guessing game for Porsche - because the waiting lists are so long that people drop out or not even join the queue (like myself).
I am sure the dealers want to deliver cars ASAP (so they get paid!) and are guessing the dates.

I think if you join the 9 month waiting list now you will get the car delivered a few months sooner, perhaps in 6 months? Porsche is increasing the production of Macans this year and those on the waiting list are likely to benefit, even though there will be a several months wait in best case.....

@acid_rider I agree, I put my deposit down Dec 5, was advised delivery around June / July but still no accurate ETA. My SA told me this week he may have some news soon in terms of build date details.
I'm accepting the wait, I'll just be a lot happier when I get clarity on ETA instead of a vague 2 month window.

Gald to find another Perth buyer :)
I locked in my deposit down at the end of August for a Turbo, was advised delivery around June/July. Was still awaiting to hear when I would get a build allocation, then went down there today to find was already built 3.3.15 and just awaiting shipping. Oh well no chance to change any options :p

Lack of communication is a little issue PCM should have a look at, I've left a message with my sa on his answering machine and no reply. Next day rang dealership and spoke to the rudest CSR , said she would leave a message to call back and no call back.

What are the initials of your SA if you don't mind me asking?
