Hello,

This not really a complaint, My turbo started to shudder when I was backing up and when I put it drive it would shudder in 1st, 2nd and a little in 3rd. The car has 14k miles. I brought to the dealer and it turns out that the transfer case has gone out. The dealer was great.
We are awaiting new cv joints that Porsche recommended to be replaced also.

The car has been a great car, this is more of a heads up to all on this forum.

Mine was replaced 5 months ago on my 17 GTS with 12K miles on it and has the same part number as yours. Other parts used were: 1 0B4-409-309-G (vibration damper), 5 N-106-259-02 (multiple tooth S), and 1 N-107-722-01 (hose clamp). Dealer told me that this transfer case is the revised one.

Add mine to the list too. Noticed pulling and resistance from stop through first and slow bumpy acceleration. My service adviser had a hunch and pre-ordered the part before I brought the car in, so the turn-around was same day, but it is curious that so many Macans (and Cayennes apparently) have this issue. 2016 Macan S just reached 20k miles. I hope this doesn't have to be replaced in another 20k!!

I don't have many of the symptoms listed, aside from when in reverse. the car slows down pretty rapidly when I take my foot off the accelerator, what someone described as "auto-braking", is a failure just waiting to happen at this point?

Not sure if I took it in now if the dealer would deem it defective enough to replace.

Have ~4k miles

Transfer case problem after warranty

I have a 2016 Macan S with 58k miles and now have the problem identified in the forum as a faulty transfer case. Am I in In own or is the dealer likely to contribute given the number of occurrences? If so, what should I expect to pay?

We have transfer cases replaced on both of ours.

2014 Cayenne was no questions asked since that has been a known for some time and the behavior is very clearly duplicated.

However, our 2016 Macan was a drag out fight with the dealer and PCNA with them finally giving up and getting us one (we are in warranty) with only excuse by the dealer that "no one else has complained about it".

What I can tell you is that my senior SA told me that on the Cayenne they would replace it even if it would be outside of warranty. I am not sure if that would be the case for out of warranty Macans but it would certainly be worth a fight to press the dealer and PCNA to do it for you at no cost if you can clearly duplicate the issue consistent with the suggestions of forum members here and the bulletin that is issued. Typically it is low speed forward and then reverse motion with sharp wheel angle or parking lot speed crawl that was enough to prove to the dealer that there is a TC issue.

Certainly Porsche should cover a known problem....they should actually extend the warranty on the transfer case for x years to everyone.

This reinforces my decision about 10 years ago not to own any car over it's warranty period. I now change cars every 3 years or less....and it's fun...I get to test drive everything. Not sure I'll be getting another Macan...maybe it's time for another BMW or return to MB....and maybe (if pigs fly), Alfa Romeo and Maseratti will improve their build quality/service needs....or perhaps a Tesla if they are still around :)

certainly sounds like fun, but in the interest of full disclosure, you need to include how much you are paying for the privilege of of avoiding potential non-warranty repairs.

If you still change cars every 3 years, get (lease) the Alfa or Maseratti.

My 2016 Macan's transfer case was replaced under warranty. I think I had fewer than 6000 miles on it. I'd have to dig through my old posts to see. I expect that replacing one out of warranty would be an expensive proposition. Others have cited Porsche's goodwill program. They're supposed to be fixing a paint blemish on my Macan under that (one that they're not admitting is a warranty issue), so I'd push for that, since the transfer case issue is a known one.

@grim, please add mine to the list. I had mine replaced at 13.5K miles on my 2.5 yrs old GTS. I called ahead to request a replacement be ordered in advanced since I'm 100 miles away. My SA was kind enough to do that after I described the symptom in details so I didn't have to come twice. Dealership invoiced Porsche for close to $2.2K in cost, transfer case alone was $1.2K, plus related parts and labor. I'm sure if I had to pay out-of-pocket it would be higher.

@grim, please add mine to the list as well.

2018 Macan S, 4500 miles. Transfer case replaced today (Oct 4th). Porsche of Burlington, Ma.
Parts on invoice
1 PO95B-341-010-AX transfer case
1 0B4-409-309-G (vibration damper),
5 N-106-259-02 (multiple tooth screws),
1 N-107-722-01 (hose clamp).

On board diagnostics done, and exhaust system removed and reinstalled (interesting). and full multipoint vehicle inspection (of course).

Cost $0 all warranty. Porsche of Burlington took excellent care of me and repair was done in 1 day.

Thus far it drives 100% better. Smooth as silk, the way I remember the test drive.

Looking forward to logging some miles up in the fall foliage of New Hampshire. Does happy dance.

Keith.

Perhaps I missed this. If so many have an issue why no recall?

I have not had a problem with my 2015 Turbo, yet?

Also how long are they under warranty?

Thanks

If it's not a safety issue and the majority of transfer cases survive beyond the warranty period, why would they recall?

Here in UK, even if your Transfer Case is replaced under warranty, its warranty still expires at the same time as the rest of the car. (The same goes for any warranty parts/repairs).

You can now add me to the list--- my 2017 GTS has a lunched Transfer Case as well. Started noticing the shaking when making tight low speed corners in parking situations. Called my dealer-- appointment to replace is next week.

Advice: I had a Maserati Spyder for a number of years. It was red with black top and beige interior - and a real head turner. BUT... as far as a performance car, the 911 is light years ahead. Straight out, the Spyder did move and was very quick but hard to control in the turns and lots of sway. AND very expensive to maintain though there are thing that you can do yourself if you have the time. It had the Cambiocorssa transmission that ate clutches. The new ones are supposed to be much better. When you turned on the ignition, you never knew what was going to work (radio, power seats, windows, etc.) and what wasn't. The joke around our house was, "hey, it's Italian." Beautiful car that I hated to see go down the driveway when I sold it but a) was expensive to maintain and b) could never really enjoy it in DC traffic.

Wonder what happened with the OP. Looks like it was his/her first and last post.

Had mine replaced over the weekend. Drove it for a month since symptom started, it did get worse but not so bad.

2015 Macan S

43000Km
They also replaced both headlights for hairline cracks, and driver side window switches.

What year?

28,000 km (17,300 miles), on my 2015. I noticed shuddering during acceleration last month but thought it was just poor road conditions. Earlier this month ‘thud’ noise became prevalent. Car is now at the dealership. I’m out of warranty so I’m dying in suspense how much this is going to cost.?

You have very low miles so I believe Porsche will offer some goodwill. Push for it.

Parts just ordered; very appreciative of Porsche’s goodwill because the estimate is around USD2,800 with me paying USD650.

Part number is 95B341010AX, so it looks like it is a refurbished part. Still it will take a month for the part to be shipped over.

#338 ·
With regard to the part numbers and possible updates/ improvements.
I see “thisisyourlife” 2017 GTS the original transfer case part #95B 341 010.
The part # of my 2018 GTS is 95B 341 010 A
The part # of “thisisyourlife” new transfer case is 95B 341 010 AX
So at least 3 different variations, maybe the X denotes a factory exchange/ reconditioned/ updated version of a returned warranty transfer case.
It would be interesting to know the changes/ updates made.
